@@pattykake7195 Why they are shown in a three point stack that exaggerates the slope of the back is purely aesthetics/tradition. They will typically never be quite as sloped; but there’s not nearly as drastic of a difference when the dogs are standing freely as many think.
@@pattykake7195 The idea behind the sloped backs in german shepherds is to affect their movement giving them an efficient trotting gait that allows them to move efficiently while spending less energy. There are two different main variations of this slope. The West German Showlines have an actual curved back that is present regardless of how they are standing. The American showlines, their modifications are more so in their leg structure. There the problem is they tend to have weaker hocks allowing them to get the leg structure closer into a right angle while standing stacked (the classic german shepherd 'pose'). However American Showlines when standing normally have a 'straight' back or straight topline, more what you expect when you see a dog.

All conformation shows should have a performance segment, where each dog most show they can actually do the tasks historically associated with their breed. The judges should be breeders of working dogs, and each dog should be given a numerical score depending on how well they can actually do the job they were bred for. Also, a vet who works with mostly randombred dogs should examine them for healthy they are, deducting points for any health problems shown, regardless of whether such problems are "characteristic of the breed" or not. I have a 2 year old Australian shepherd I adopted, all I can say is she trained me well.
such beautiful dogs! loved the cheer on rough collie hahaha!
Here I go again!! I just can't choose one over the other! They are just so beautiful & I know their hearts are true... which of course makes the choice even more difficult! So, ALL, I say all of them win!! What can I say, our first dog trained me well!!
Congrats Rebecca! You and Ryder looked great!! Fantastic representation of one of the newest AKC members, the Mudi!!
I had American eskimos and they are my favorites. Intelligent, fun loving, affectionate. I could tell you stories of how they played tricks on me and each other!
The Bouvier was just like “look I’m on TV!!!!!!”
Love my Aussies!!!
Me too ❤
The border collie was very aware that the audience was cheering for them. So smart and self aware! 10:40
no. just stress panting
I've never realized that German Shepherds have such a quirky gait until now.
A lot of the ones you see around the city don't. It's extreme in the show lines.
Omg I love German shepherds so much 😭
Berger picard absolutely stole the show for me, stunning movement and great personality
What a beautiful shepherd! Love his run!
Love the junior handler of the Smooth Coated Collie. That new Muti had gorgeous coloring, the Valhund also beautiful. As the owner of GSDs, happy to see the GSD win. Gorgeous gait like Rumor at Westminster. Just floating on air. GSD got robbed of BIS, followed by that beautiful AmStaff & Coonhound.
i am happy i found this because i missed it after the parade🥰🐕
I could take the AKC more seriously if they didn’t consider the different Belgian varieties totally different breeds and followed the European standards. Tervs and Groenendals are literally born in the same litters.
8:35 9:14* is the thumbnail I can’t describe how flawless the dog is
I really thought its a puppy.
literally my new favorite breed i didn't know existed
Wow that had to be hard to choose ! I’m in love with all of them !
I absolutely adore the fact each of these dogs look the same as their owners
an australian cattle dog is so smart… they could host and/or judge the entire event.
I love the look of the pumi. Reminds me of a lamb (as does the Bedlington!) with those cute floopy ears :)
They really need to change the "standard" on the GSD. Hocking those poor dogs back legs is so bad for their hips. Our two pure breds dont have that because its absolutely horrible for their hips. Poor beautiful doggo
what..
Check out the difference in how straight the back is on the other dogs compared to the german shepard. That sloping back and bent hindlegs were bred into it.
@@g.w.hampton5525 show breeders have gone too extreme with the angulation, roach backs. As well as on breeds like pekes, pugs, bulldogs, Boston's, & the Frenchie
@@g.w.hampton5525 I remember a GSD went BIS
at Westminster.. was 1987,
looked it up, " Covy Hills Manhattan" that was a perfectly correct dog.. , even with the 3 point stack, the back was absolutely straight/ level. & not running on his hocks.
@@usosweethe the back legs of the German Shepherd has been bred so that they have a sloped back. That is NOT what they should look like. Its bred and forced into them like that. Its very bad for their hips and overall health
Truly beautiful dogs this year.
German Shepherds are always winning the herding class but are one of the dogs with the most problems out there.
I knew the german shepherd would win! Gorgeous
A conformational nightmare….😱
That German Shepherd's back is just horrendous.
English sheep dog is bouncing and fluffy likes a cloud 🐕❤🐕🦺
Here for the Smooth and Rough Collies, most gorgeous dogs
The Belgian Laekenois might just be the most adorable dog breed in the world.
My beloved cattle dog ! Is the red heeler for this year ! Woof !
I love the old. English sheepdog and Spanish water dog there are two of my faves
진짜 멋진 강아지들이네요 한국에서 보기 힘든 강아지내요 너무 이뻐요
That poor German Shepard’s back, I’ve seen sloped ones before but that’s insane
Right?? And the hocks are literally on the ground with each step it’s disturbing. It’s disposing the dogs to terrible joint issues just for aesthetic appeal
@@angelinaliu1816 A once sound breed has been ruined just to impress in the show ring….so sad….😢
17:20 !!! My favorite!
Agree, ❤️ me a salty little Aussie. Have a dear old friend who is about twice as wide as the one in the ring 😆
I wonder what these dogs are thinking this whole time... especially when its their time to show.
These hoomans are howling for me????
I love dogs!!!
I have a Husky..... She lives a great life especially loves Alaskan winters
I love all breeds of dogs but the Huskies will always have my heart
Not a herding dog but a dog with personality and the love to run and hunt !
21:15 , did the Finnish Lapphund pass gas ? 🤣🤣
Definitely 🤣
I blame the judge! Or a malfunctioning mic :)
It was the judge, he squished the dog's cheeks 🤣
25:35 “Here is the dog of the late Queen Elizabeth, the Pembroke Welsh Corgis!” 30:25 “1st is the German Shepherd 🐶!” 🥰
That old English sheepdog was so cute
German Shepherd Dogs will always be my most favorite breed of dogs!! God bless my Brandy, Sheba, Cali and Slugger, my beautiful dogs and best friends forever. R.I.P
How old was the girl showing the smooth coat collie??? She looked like a kid, either way congratulations to everyone
She only looks about 12. What an amazing experience for her, she was very professional!
@@isabellepanza5679 I thought junior handlers compete only in junior handler shows?
@@isabellepanza5679 she looks to be a juniorhandler, they can be as young as 7-8, up to senior handlers 18
@@usosweethe junior, & senior handlers can show dogs in conformation , & any one can show a dog, often professional handlers may have a conflict , & need someone to show another dog that is in a class at same time,& junior handlers can help out .
The Border Collie looked like he was saying "Hi, everybody!"
Lmao 1:15 the border collie in the background being like “pls gib task”
Well spotted! 😂
I've never watched a herding group judging, and to be perfectly honest, I expected them to do competitive sheep herding or something. Like there'd be 50 sheep or something and the dogs would have to herd them.
The Australian shepherd and the Miniature American shepherd look like Jeff and Beau Bridges . 8:41
German Shepherd needs a new standard that doesn't involve crippled hips and back legs
The Pumi was my favorite, those ears never fail to make me :D
My fav. Pembroke Welsh Corgi and Shetland Sheepdog
