  • Per-Olof Odman served in the Swedish army 1965-1966. In 1967, he obtained a visa to travel to the United States. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He survived the siege of Khe Sanh the following month. In June 1968, he was seriously wounded in combat. In the 1990s he visited Vietnam four times. He revisited Khe Sanh and the place he was wounded. With the goal of achieving reconciliation, he climbed Vietnam's highest mountain with a former North Vietnam enemy.
