    Rihanna’s impact at this time was CRAZY. We found love changed the way EDM sounded for years. Also Rihanna was the first popstar to dive into trap music. Artist like (Miley, Beyonce, and eventually Ariana) would follow just to name a few. Definitely a trendsetter.

      Katy Perry popularized trap music in pop with Dark Horse’s success in 2014. Rihanna did it much later.

    • @fan7708
      @fan7708 4 месяца назад +12

      @@peaceful_chaos14 I hope your joking. Rihanna popularized pop stars doing trap when she released Pour It Up. Also Miley and Beyonce both followed her lead and dropped trap-pop inspired albums before Dark Horses release. Katy Perry is apart of the girls who were inspired by Rihanna. Also I wouldn’t call dark horse a trailblazing song as it was released AFTER pop girls were already doing trap (thanks to Rihanna)

    I consider 2013 as already separate era from 2010-2012, cause in my opinion 2010-2012 still had this candy Britney-ish apocalyptic pre-december 2012 end of the world vibe. Music still wasn't so vulgar in pop (however I recognise there were some nasty hits at times) when basically in 2013 you had an entire new persona of Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Iggy Azalea doing strip dances on the pole, Justin Bieber singint about his Lolly, Blurred Lines from Robin Thicke and Britney doing Work B*tch. Its a departure from sweet Rihanna & Nicki Minaj Loud and Pink Friday eras we lived in 2010-2012. To not overanalyze it any further, 2013 is for me the point when there was a definite shift from the few years prior to that, including a peak of EDM, earlier established pop stars going more gangsta, new faces about to take the throne of pop, and more urban influences.

    P.S. Gotta give this lady a shout out for the sound mixing in this vid, you wouldn't believe how many people out there make the music samples be louder than an earthwork while their commentary's barely audible unless you turn the volume way up.

    I really wish Kesha‘s career wasn’t sabotaged by her label and her rapist because if she hadn’t been forced to stop releasing music between 2012 and the end of 2017 I just know she would have such a bigger career. She could’ve gone the Lady Gaga route, and started being in movies because she’s actually a really good actress, Or she could’ve went to Katy Perry route and gone on a show like American Idol. I just know she could be so much more successful if RCA and Dr. Luke didn’t hold her back.

    as corny as it sounds, there was nothing like being a teenager in the 2010s. hearing Lorde’s Pure Heroine for the first time. listening to Lana Del Rey on your way to school. seeing Arctic Monkeys on their AM tour. that mid 2010s tumblr era was a fun time to be a high schooler

    I was in college during this era and it’s truly a miracle I’m alive… as you described it, much of the music was “party like it’s the last night of your life” music 😅. Rihanna, Nicki, and Bey were always in heavy rotation. Also honorable mention to Big Sean, maybe he was bigger because of where I’m from but he was everywhere and and you couldn’t escape the Dance A$$ song with him and Nicki 😂

    Kelis literally spearheaded the EDM/Dance movement in 2010 yet you failed to mention her SMH .

    The fact that Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream or One of the boys was not featured in that horrible Apple Music 100 albums of all time is crazy and honestly so disrespectful towards her. She has not 1 not 2 but 8 total music videos with 1 billion views and over making her the artist with the most billions. She was so influential and versatile excelling in literally every genre she does. Her eras are so iconic and One of the boys honest has no skips even the songs that aren’t as popular slap so hard. Katy Perry literally changed the face of 2010’s era pop and every person had a Katy Perry music video era. Every music video is different and so unique and you can tell she put love and care into everyone she did. Her Super Bowl performance is one of the most talked abt ever and I still remember me being young and watching it. Nobody would ever forget about Katy Perry and don’t even get me started on Nicki not being on that list either cause that will send me into a whole spiral 😭

    Also can you do a deep dive on how much MTV influenced culture? A lot of us grew up watching MTV even in other countries. I feel like the reason songs don’t hit like they used to is because we are all streaming things at different times and culture is not as organically aligned as it used to be. Now it’s all algorithms and aesthetics. It’s exhausting. Everything was more fun and silly on the Internet and on cable tv ten years ago.
