I just finished the book today and it was awesome. As you said it has its incredible atmosphere with the lovely characters. This was my first Stephen King book and it was a really good experience. I will never regret the day when i bought the book... :)
I figured it was Erin, but I couldn't figure out when she would have been making that kinda shocked face. So thank you for reminding me she saw the apparition!
Finally read Joyland last week and loved it! Devin was so interesting - I loved his joy at wearing the 'fur' - and his involvement in the mystery of Linda Gray was fun. I would ❤️ to see a film adaptation of this with Devin as an old man reminiscing about his year at Joyland and how it altered his life ;-D
I think that the cover picture and the phrase "who dares to enter the funhouse of terror"(or similar) makes the reader expect something completely different.
ive just finished this book. I really enjoyed it. The build up at the end was tense. And the ending make me weep. But king is supposed to make you creep. So yes i would put this down as one of my faves. Nice dress by the way, you brought me back there then
read the book around 2015 and found it to be one of the greatest reads of all time. fun and a quick pace. cross between Elvis roustabout and Tobe hopper the fun house Horror movie. a touch of carnival from hbo. glad you like it and that ur dress almost matches the girl on the cover.
I just discovered your channel and I LOVE IT! My summer is about to start and I will probably read Joyland next month. I'm a big fan of Stephen King (I'm currently reading Mr. Mercedes) and this seems like a perfect summer read, as you said.
I agree! I can't express how much I loved this broke. I read it in the midst of a break up where I was cheated on. That may have added to it. But even apart from that, it's such a gem. My favourite Stephen King. And my first recommendation for a novel just for fun.
I loved the cover artwork too Emily (I design books also), nice touch wearing a green dress like the girl on the cover (was that intentional? :)) Joyland was great!
I like so many books by Stephen King. I actually was kind of appalled by the cover and that was the very reason I didn't read it for a long time. Then finally I picked up with really a feeling of "Okay just to get it over with" Well, I was very pleasantly surprised. I read it at such a fast pace. It was just GREAT! I just finished it a few hours ago. I really loved it. Besides Emily, did you put on the green dress to look like Erin?
One of the best books I've ever read, I have no idea why but you kinda reminded me of my vision of Wendy Keegan when she met Devin in Professor Nako's office
I read this book directly after finishing King's "It," and the change in depth of writing kind of ruined the book for me. "Joyland" seemed rushed, and the writing wasn't very careful and heartfelt, compared to other King books that I've read. I agree, though, it's a very quick, light read. Still enjoyable, but I expected more from King. Just my opinion. :)
New to your channel. As a Stephen King fan, I am sad to say that Joyland is among my least favourite books of the author. I will be reading Doctor Sleep soon, followed by Mr Mercedes. Happy reading!
This is my first Stephen King and I LOVE it!!! I wish it was summer like she said because then I feel like id really enjoy the book. but it isn't its the end of December. but yea I've read the first 75 pages just today. way good
I’m 27 and this is my first time reading a book since highschool, i work in a highschool and their library has a lot of Stephen king!! is their any other Stephen king books 📚 that are good ?
I really liked 11/22/63. The Dark Tower series (once you get past the first book) is amazing! Carrie is also really good -- it's King's first novel and maybe a good place to continue your exploration of his works. The Stand (if you're up for a long novel with a large cast of characters) is a lot of folks favorite King novel. :)
Thought this would be like the Colorado Kid, overlooked this book.Been watching your videos, thank you BTW, Shinning review made me think of 77 Shadow Street, Dean Koontz. Reading that and Salem's Lot now...Enjoying the ride!
joker6470 I've been super interested in reading the works by King's sons. How do you find Hill's writing is compared to King's? Do you prefer one author over the other? I'll have to find myself a copy of Horns. Thanks for the recommendation! :)
I wouldn't say Joe is better then King, but Joe's book did pull me in better then King's books. I'm only at chapter 8 but I can't it down. Hope you enjoy it :) You're welcome :)
No it didn't it was really helpful. I didn't know whether to buy it at the start because you said it wasn't too scary but am glad i did. It is definitely my favorite Stephen King book now. Who is your favorite author?
95hellrider That's such a tough question. :P Stephen King is up there alongside Robertson Davies, Michael Ondaatje and Tamora Pierce. Those are authors I always turn to when I want to read something that I know I will enjoy. Do you have a favorite author?
Probably Brent Weeks and Jim Butcher and also Peter V Brett. Most of my favorite authors are from the science fiction or fantasy genre. What genre would you say is your favorite?
95hellrider I really enjoy fantasy and contemporary fiction. I took a course on science fiction literature in university. I thought I liked scifi up until I took that course. Turns out I'm more into 'soft scifi' or speculative fiction than the 'hard scifi' :P
Not his best work imo...past on this one if your a Stephen King horror fan as I am. if you like "the body/stand by me" type of story, then this might be more toward your liking.
Mediocre, boring and predictable, much too precocious 20 year old characters. Non realistic, movie-cliched cookie cutter personalities and dialog. 2,4/5
I just finished the book today and it was awesome. As you said it has its incredible atmosphere with the lovely characters. This was my first Stephen King book and it was a really good experience. I will never regret the day when i bought the book... :)
+Máté Szakács I'm glad you enjoyed Joyland!
Máté Szakács me to 2 pounds e book apart from gun slinger
I bought joyland 24 hours ago and I just finished. Fantastic book.
The woman on the cover is Erin, with the (more vintage looking) camera in her mentioned green dress, after seeing the apparition in the attraction.
I figured it was Erin, but I couldn't figure out when she would have been making that kinda shocked face. So thank you for reminding me she saw the apparition!
Emily Cait Chuckles* Sure thing ;)
Emily Cait I don't think she saw Linda though... Only Tom did.
A film adaptation of Joyland would be SO MUCH FUN! :)
You should dye your hair red and be the Erin that I imagined. Nice green dress too. I'm sure Pop would be pleased. Lol
I think that the cover picture and the phrase "who dares to enter the funhouse of terror"(or similar) makes the reader expect something completely different.
it deserves to be a movie

Yeah Tobe Hooper great director and the book has that feel, I listened to it on you tube, just starting Blaze now.

Thanks Pablo! Ah, summer! I am very much missing warm weather. I hope you enjoy summer and Joyland! Happy reading :)

The next book I'm going to read is Joyland and I got it for only $3 at some store. It does sound really good!
Just finished reading this book; thoroughly enjoyed the characters and atmosphere 👍🏾
I've been thinking of trying to get into Stephen King over the past few weeks oddly enough and this does sound a fun read.
Its fun and short. So it might be a perfect place to start 😊
This is one of his best. The work of an absolute master.
Yes, I totally agree on the cover and the atmosphere of the book. And yes, it's a perfect summer book.
I loved the cover artwork too Emily (I design books also), nice touch wearing a green dress like the girl on the cover (was that intentional? :)) Joyland was great!
Designing book covers eh? Sounds like a sweet job. 😃 And yes, wearing the green dress was planned.
I like so many books by Stephen King. I actually was kind of appalled by the cover and that was the very reason I didn't read it for a long time. Then finally I picked up with really a feeling of "Okay just to get it over with"

Think you summed up what the book is about very well. Nice dress, too!
Thanks :).

Jesse Day Eugh, yes. It was so rushed. I feel like it had so much potential that wasn't realized.
Maybe it seemed rushed because you read a 1000 page book just before it
New to your channel. As a Stephen King fan, I am sad to say that Joyland is among my least favourite books of the author. I will be reading Doctor Sleep soon, followed by Mr Mercedes.
Happy reading!
Hi there Siuon! Just curious, what did you dislike about Joyland?
Emily Cait I believe the voice in this novel is slight different from that in other King's works, which I enjoy a lot, and the story is predicable.
Fair enough. :P
You just put my thoughts.
I 100% agree, that book is awesome and it is perfect for summer. I love Stephen king's books. I hope they make a movie based on it one day
This is my first Stephen King and I LOVE it!!! I wish it was summer like she said because then I feel like id really enjoy the book. but it isn't its the end of December. but yea I've read the first 75 pages just today. way good
Really liked your review, I loved the book as well! By the way, your dress is adorable, love that color!
Hi, I am about to finish the book (in French) and it is kinda of entertaining and liked its cover, thanks for sharing.
Reading this books right now!!! I’m At the part where they are showing him around the amusement park before he gets hired the build up feels good!
I’m 27 and this is my first time reading a book since highschool, i work in a highschool and their library has a lot of Stephen king!! is their any other Stephen king books 📚 that are good ?

Emily Cait thank u my love will look for these books in the library I work at 👍
Emily Cait u also resemble the girl on the cover lol
I liked the book but was disappointed it wasn't more like the cover art. 🙁
It is sitting on my shelf waiting to be read!
Read it! It's so good! :)
Thought this would be like the Colorado Kid, overlooked this book.Been watching your videos, thank you BTW, Shinning review made me think of 77 Shadow Street, Dean Koontz. Reading that and Salem's Lot now...Enjoying the ride!
I'm reading Salems' Lot right now. Lol
Wild Gamer what do you think of Salem's Lot?
+Jo Scan I just did a review that I updated today. check it out. My next review is going to be Joyland.
Wild Gamer Ha! I just started Joyland. I'll check out your review.
Jo Scan I just started joyland yesterday! lol
My favourite novel. Hey, you're as cute as the book's cover girl!
You look like Tori Amos in the late 80's. I knew her personally back then.
I just bought Joyland I'm going to read it today :)
I hope you enjoy it! Happy reading! :)
Thank you! :)
Emily Cait Have read Horns By Joe Hill? If you haven't I highly recommend it. :)
joker6470 I've been super interested in reading the works by King's sons. How do you find Hill's writing is compared to King's? Do you prefer one author over the other?

Gonna get this!!
Great reviews, thanks!
Thank you :)
Nice review. Must be Canadian, eh?
Thanks! And I am Canadian :P
Nice review. I like the cover too. I would probably like it.
Thanks! :)
Can I borrow your book? :D
The cover has nothing to do with the story??? The girl is Erin in her green dress.....
Finoo beschteLeben I meant it more in that the story isn't really about Erin. I would expect the cover to reflect the main character more.
video editing had to be a pain I guess
This was my worst read ever.
I didn't like it either
bayile ericson no way!
Not his best work imo...past on this one if your a Stephen King horror fan as I am. if you like "the body/stand by me" type of story, then this might be more toward your liking.
Meu deus você é muito linda da vontade de muda de pais so pra casa com vc !!
