Nice clear instructions. I am mainly an HO guy but have a bunch of N scale including two KATO F40PH's and a set of superliners as well as the dorm + baggage add-on. KATO makes it easy to build a prototypical Amtrak California Zephyr in N scale. For some reason, we still don't have the stepdown coach in phase III in HO after all these years. If some one offers one decalled for phase III, it gets bit sky high on fleabay. C'mon Walthers!!!!
Just shows how simple it should be. So far I've had 60% success with this style of decoder on my Kato locos. I've needed to find crafty methods of adding additional pressure to the little grey clip to get the motor to turn. I'm not keen on soldering as some have suggested.
How to install a Digitrax N scale DCC decoder in a KATO AmTrak EMD F40PH, Other than the tape this was a super easy installation
Yes it was
@@IMRROcom how wide is the Kapton tape used?

That was way to easy. No pins or soldering. Nice clear explanation. Thanks.

Pins are a nice tip, never even crossed my mind
nicer on the shell than a screwdiver
Great video…. Thanks
Thanks, back at you!
Yea that did seem very simple thank you for sharing

Dude, well done!
Hey, thanks!

I'm not a fan of soldering but if it needs to be done I will do it.
Much better
Eric, Good install video. I typically will solder the engine tabs down onto the DCC board....John
If I run into problems I might do that.
Thanks for the video! Does this method work with other N scale locomotives too or just the KATO Amtrak F40? Thanks!
F40 is a different locomotive with a different decoder. The decoder vides were not popular so I just did not make a video for that one.
Nice.
Thanks
Will any 8 pin decoder work with any 8 pin socket and so on? Are all DCC ready locos like this? Or very similar?
I would think so, but I used N scale boards
I am also NScale. Thanks.
Can I use electric tape?
Electrical tap gets gummy and makes a mess. Kapton tape does not do this.
@IMRROcom So no? Thanks for replying.
Where was this video when i had N scale?
In my mind, in my mind...
Can't get much easier.
The Kapton tape is sometimes a pain
Disappointed
Why do you waste your time, I’m sure you can find a better RUclips channel that meets your high expectations:
@@IMRROcom I'm watching Larry Puckett the DCC guy now
@@timf2279 good
@@IMRROcom have you ever checked out his channel he is very knowledgeable on DCC.
