Yes. SO TRUE. Many people's online persona is the diametric opposite of their real life persona... or they have their hands dipped in multiple pies simultaneously. They can fool a lot of people, thanks to technology, now it's even worse with AI deep fakes and chat bots. One can't even be sure an online account is a REAL person.
You highlighted the problems of the fandom without giving everyone the wrong idea about them or going on an unjustified tirade about how the community should be destroyed. And throughout all of it you maintained your professionalism. My hat is off to you.

Hhhh, there's so much drama within the furry fandom. But, I often avoid a lot of things as much as possible. A lot of negativity, people tend to focus on just the bad things that happened. I may be a pokemon furry myself, but I am not one who trusts anyone that I don't know. Sure, I might talk to them, but it's moreso to learn more about someone. I've met absolute creeps in the fandom which I have gone to immediately warn my family and my family's friends about them especially when they are anywhere near them or I had encountered them. In the end, it's all about the safety of everyone, it's all I care about and that people are having fun as well. If the fandom was nothing but a terrible place, I would have abandoned it years ago, but it's fun and safe, if you know where to go, most of the time. I'm just really happy with how this video spoke about the topic instead of rather taking sides or leaving open ends to assumptions that everyone in the community is the same, cause, in the end, we're all people of different places, backgrounds and interests within the same community. And people outside of the fandom, same thing with them.

From personal experience, the abusive side is WAY bigger in the fandom despite that members argue it just a small population; IT IS NOT and it is VERY common for children to be drawn in and encouraged to isolate themselves from their family/in-person friends. This is a very traumatic thing to go through for everyone close to the victims.
Someone told me a very valuable thing: it doesnt matter how much good a group does, there are guys who do something evil and it's a patch for the entire community.
I had a chat with someone who also said that "creeps in furry fandom in the USA are not caused by the fact fandom supposedly harbors them, but the fact the number of creeps in the USA is very high".
There is something in that statement, since I very rarely hear anything heinous in European furry fandom, with most of it being drama of not holding personal space boundaries at most.

that's how it goes. it eventually turns into a scar if left alone. i do find it a bit funny of the european fandom because the most toxic furry i seen was there but interact more with the usa side. It seems to be bad all the way through but obviously certain parts stand out more except maybe japan branch that i never ever heard of at all.

Not a good idea, some parents are toxic or abusive. I'd say tell any adult you trust, regardless of whether they're a police officer, teacher, counselor, or family member.
Source: been groomed online before, my parents blamed me for it and pressured me into staying silent. It was my music teacher, close friends, school counselors, and the detective at my local law enforcement agency who believed in me. I'm an adult now and our relationship has rekindled a good bit, but it really sucked and contributed to the trauma more than it helped. Although my parents have changed for the better, this will always be a deep scar on our relationship and I never stopped feeling bitter when I recall these memories.

This is something that seems to be very common among both zoos and pedos. It's so gross that I've had to block immediately multiple people who have it in their bios EVERYWHERE. They fully believe they're not mentally ill and that they're persecuted. It's actually disgusting.

The basics of it all is that theres horrible people among every fandom and that it isn't just the furry fandom that is like this
Very true. My company sent me to an IT conference about 10 years ago and they were warning people not to bring valuables downstairs. People were being pushed into the pool and obviously that ruined everything in their pockets. Nobody got warned or banned for pushing, they pushed it all on the victims... Thankfully some fandoms/spaces had scandals and vowed to improve. This year I went back and nobody got pushed.

that and people need to be more forward. if so many furries weren't so worried about reputations and impressing people, and being more forward about the flaws, then we wouldn't have the bad reputation issue. Like, if you're honest, and show the good AND bad, and discuss it, it both makes people more aware of the dangers of the internet as a whole, as well as the furry community, and it'd show that there isn't anything to hide.

I’m not, a furry, but I know someone who is. My friend looks at being a furry as an art project, and a way she can express herself. It horrifies me that some people give the fandom such a horrible reputation, because I also know that many other people just use it as a way to express themselves too.

The most important thing to remember when it comes to being a part of communities like furries and others, is that you should surround yourself with the right people. There's a good and bad side to _every_ fandom - no exceptions. As long as you're not indulging in anything illegal, you are fully within your right to enjoy that thing because it makes you happy. Don't be convinced otherwise just because some high and mighty keyboard warrior said so.
Honestly it’s people like this that make it hard to stay a part of the fandom… But I won’t leave or let them ruin it. I’ve found my place, my people hell… basically my found family there. All of my closest friends and my partner. I wouldn’t have met any of them without the fandom and because of my amazing friends I’ll stay.
My son is a furry and at a con there was a guy who walked up and started giving him the finger and calling him very awful names
After someone posted a video of him public suiting he started to get bullied and then he started well cutting himself… it’s just awful how bullying can turn out…

Pretty fair assessments. Lots of drama in the fandom but it's also got a lot of positivity. I knew the Yosts, they would go to a local furry Meetup. One thing I noticed is Midwest fur fest is not anthrocon they are two separate cons.

I've been a furry for 6 years and so happy I never really got into the fandom, apart from drawing for myself and commissioning a safe artist once when I was 16 💀. I've never really talked to other furries, but a few weeks ago I ran into an old friend who talked to me about it. He told me how much he tried to get into the scene, but after meeting really weird people in the community, he quickly quit. I told him to just be a furry by himself, but now he wants nothing more to do with it. To me it's just sad that this fandom can be so ugly if you're not careful enough.
I also would have gone to some conventions a long time ago, but this is exactly the reason that keeps me away :c

1:39 I think the lucario was just a cosplay you see a cosplay is when someone dresses up like a video game character such as maybe picachu and usually wear it at places like a comic con or over geeky conventions
Great video. I was a part of this "community" for 20 years. Was involved in organising events for a lot of that time. Gave up after the aftermath of the stuff you mentioned. There's one in the US who was and still is on several con's AV crews, outed in the Leaks, and the conventions he worked for doubled down and refused to take action or engage with the community. Furries just dismissed it and kept going to those cons.
The only reason these people are in jail is because others collected the evidence and took it to the authorities. If it was left to furries - and I say that as someone who used to be one - this would have been covered up.
Even today anyone talking about it is usually banned from furry chats. They call it "drama". It's a word they use to describe everything from petty fights to criminal acts. Everything has to be covered up to make the scene look good.

@@TBATG Thank you. I met some very nice people there and I consider myself lucky they are still my friends (maybe not if they see this post). It's all I can do, the furries won't police themselves. I used to think they could but after 10 years trying I knew I was treading water. It was destroying me.
I still like the creativity and the art but so many of the good people left because they were either smeared or abused.
Furry cons are very political inside, I saw lots of nepotism. I even saw staff talking openly about how they hate attendees (specific ones or all), wanted bad things to happen to them, or how they could do anything they liked because furries would just keep giving them money to go to the con and couldn't afford to sue them. we raised all of it but directors told us if we didn't like it we could quit.
we tried to start a new con but the chairperson of the con we left called our venue and smeared us and threatened them, and badmouthed us to their attendees. we had to abandon it. and the furries we thought were our "friends" who'd come to the con and support us, just laughed and said they were going to go to the other con because everyone was going there and "they didn't go for the staff".

Kero's case traumatized me though. He assaulted his dog, participated in quite vile discussions and didn't face consequences (as far as I know). And it's hard to imagine how bad the real situation can be if the cases that reach the surface are already this disturbing.

I really wished people talked about it more so other people knew about the bad side and expose those who are the actual creepy/horrible ones, and not the ones who haven’t done anything. Exactly because I'm also a furry cosplayer but I'm a scary furry cosplayer and I would never ever harm children or teenagers in any way. Those other people that are being pedos while dressed up as a furry to lure teenagers is disgusting and it makes us harmless furries look like they are when we wouldn't do that ever. I can't stand people who deliberately do these things on purpose knowing that it's going to make all furries look like sexual predators. That alone is down right evil and disrespectful as well as disgusting. I've even posted my costume on RUclips too. But I'm not remotely trying to groom teenagers in any way at all because I already said that I would never harm them in any way. I'd be the one who protected those underage kids from these predators.

The only real true reasons that I see anti furs to exist is because yes, suits sometimes do loo creepy, usually because they often seem to stare through you, and that there are many people who simply don't understand or like the act of cosplaying as something that most consider "inhuman".
As a furry myself I would like to inform people that 98 percent of the furry fandom are not bad people. Zoophilia is truly fucked up and needs to be stoped. Not all furry are predators. I’m considered a chill furry since I just mind my own business and don’t do these horrible acts.

I used to be a little into the dark side of the fandom, and this is horrible because I’m pretty young, and I regret being like that and dont regret leaving that side of the fandom. Another thing is I didn’t even know how deep the fandom goes, most I knew was up to the drawing and scamming side of it. A lot of furries are autistic, so unfortunately, they're susceptible to manipulation. Tons of furries are also just VERY kind people in general. I've done commission work for many furries who've tipped me generously
Years ago, I ran into someone like that on eBay. First it was "can't send it right now because my mom just died," then it was not having enough money for postage. At that point, I demanded a refund, which I never got. They eventually got thrown off eBay, but it took a while.

Midwest Furfest only takes place in Chicago. Anthrocon in Pittsburg Pennsylvania. I can see where the confusion may stem from because they fight over the number one spot for largest convention every year. They are two different conventions though.

On Thursday Feb 1, I was ready to sleep, I had to tell the truth to mom of what I was hiding. She was not mad or disappointed. She was sorry that I had to go through such horrible things. She gave me some friendly advice to overcome him and to not do the same things that he did to me. I'm being humbled in a good way by my mother and I'm learning from my actions.
I'm going to the bright side of my life and not the dark side.

About the VRC avatars that aren't good for younger people... a friend of mine on Discord makes VRC avatars on their clients needs, no matter what it is. He even made a single free one to the world that was meant for trusted 18+ users only, this very quickly got out of hand with small children somehow getting it, so he removed it because a lot of people started to add him just to cause him trouble and saying it was his fault. So yes there's avatars that proberly shouldn't be public, specially if 18+ but it's just hard to regulate who has it on VRC

Im a furry, but like this is the thing that me and we as a community hate the most. Society look at the worse part of the fandom and judge every other furries on this.
Like other fandoms and communities have the same issue but they get less/no hate towards the darkest area, it is everywhere, its just who actually shows their dark side.

One of my friends was sexually assaulted by a furry in middle school. No one outside of my friend group knows but there is nothing wrong with encouraging these people to get help. The kind of community that would desensitize a 13 year old girl to commit such an act does not deserve to exist on this planet. I hope this is an isolated incident but I would not be surprised if this was a theme.
