I'm a musician, vocalist and play trombone, so I generally pay close attention to the musical scores in movies. However the lack of one in this movie is quite interesting. It really doesn't detract from the enjoyment of this odd but very entertaining flick.

I love the old black and white films. The acting, dialogue, wardrobe, music. And this film was pretty good despite Dr. Crespi's attempt t to kill everyone with second hand smoke

Great Von Stronheim talkie, almost like a Tod Browning screenplay. Macabre ending with the shadow of the baby skeleton.

Cat Cook thank you for pointing out that image on the wall--otherwise, I would have missed seeing it.

I always wonder why the script writers hardly ever put in the script, people saying at least " By, or a good-by," when getting off the phone with someone🤔 its just so strange. 😅

Early telephone etiquette was very different and very formal.

Yeah. It bothers me too. I think this just happens in movies due to sloppy direction

I had no problem making it through this, though it was a bit low budget considering von Stroheim's stature during the teens & 20's. Counting this I've seen 3 sound films with him in leads - all were watchable (I like the Great Flamarian best of them). He's mechanical and always plays similar character types, but something about him intrigues me. I do have a bit of a hard time sitting through a lot of silent movies though

How many cigarettes did Crespi smoke in this film? Would you sit with a doctor who puffed during your consult? I really loved the lift in the hospital! Very authentic.

George Lewandowski amazing. Big Tobacco sure had a say in these films. Later, with actress Barbara Stanwyck, you never saw a scene with her in it without smoking a cigarette

You could see News Anchors smoking on live TV up till about the 70's

Remember this was a long time ago. Who would have thought inhaling smoke in your lungs would hurt you?

The way Stroheim chain smoked you'd think he'd have died of cancer, and indeed he did, but prostate, not lung.

Produced by J.H.A. Pictures this time for distribution by Republic, after Poe's "Premature Burial" !!
Anything of von Stroheim's (Herr Überheblichkeit!) is well-worth viewing.
The theme music is so familiar but, I cannot credit it. Liszt, perhaps? However it might prove as actually, it is very fine and works well.

I made it through the '60s. I made it through a scary bout of acute pancreatitis. I made it through divorce. I made it through prostate cancer. But I made it through only 7 minutes of this film.
