  • Constance Demby's Novus Magnificat: Through the Stargate, one of Hearts of Space Records first releases, is a landmark recording. This album of symphonic, sacred music built the bridge between classical and choral music, and what would eventually become the New Age musical genre. This 2-CD 30th Anniversary Edition features the original recording re-cut by the artist to eleven movements and a second disc of never before released live recordings.
"Sets a standard for the use of electronics against which future new age albums should be judged"
    - John Schaefer, WNYC-FM New Sounds (Harper & Row, 1987)
Composed in 1986, Novus Magnificat was greeted with immediate critical and popular acclaim. As it surpasses sales of 200,000 units, it has come to be considered one of the benchmark examples of the finest the new age music genre has to offer.
Billed by Constance Demby as "a contemporary Magnificat and Exaltate for digital orchestra and choral voices," Novus is an inspired fusion of influences from traditional sacred and classical music set in a contemporary electronic ambiance.
Ms. Demby composed and performed all the musical elements in her own 16 track studio using a combination of digital samplers and conventional synthesizers; additional electronic images and effects were contributed by Los Angeles synthesist, film composer and Hearts of Space labelmate Michael Stearns. The work was produced by Constance Demby and Anna Turner, with additional engineering by Warren Dennis, and mixed by Stephen Hill and Warren Dennis.
Subtitled Through the Stargate, the music charts a lengthy but resolute course toward a powerful emotional/spatial release at the apotheosis of Part 2, then recedes gently to the subtlest of contemplative sounds. Rather than taking us away from ourselves, the music leads inward, in an atmosphere of awe, reverence, aspiration, and joy.

I was a pilot in 1986 and had an extended trip to Oakland CA from Long Island for two weeks. On the third of October, I was heading back to my hotel from General Conference after the session for MP and was looked for something suitable to on the radio. This had just started playing on something called Musical Starstreams and I sat in my car for nearly an hour listening to the very end. Talk about thinning out the veil! I still get goosebumps listening to this.

My mother showed me Novus when I was 10. She had it on tape and listened to Hearts of Space all the time. Absolutely life changing. I made the quest to discover the rest of her albums after that. I used to correspond with her years ago via email and my mom had surprised me by getting an autographed picture of her through the mail, but it was lost in post and I never received. Rest in peace, Constance! Constance Demby means so much to me.

I was between 12 and 15 at the time. The only one in my family of 7 that listened to this music. I first heard it at night on the radio show Musical Starstreams out of Houston Texas. I lived in a small town. This music and others such as Tangerine Dream, Steve Roach, Richard Burmer to name a few, all inspired me in my art. I was a teen and created works of art that my family even today could not believe I did such work that was in front of their eyes. I felt so proud as a child. Thanks to the inspiration of music such as this. I'm 53 now, and creativity is everywhere in my life.

The music of Constance Denny is otherworldly. Ethereal, and beautiful. I met Constance briefly back in the 80s, such a kind and unassuming lady, with an amazing aura. The world misses your music. Bless you and thanks Constance ❤️

In 1988 I first heard Constance Demby and felt to the core, the sheer magic she performed in this piece of music. I went on many an inner journey with this music both alone and with like minded people doing lightwork for this world. This piece of music carries more than I think anyone can fully know. When one has heard it, afterwards they do not feel the same. It assists powerfully in raising one's vibrational frequency. It speaks to the Soul using many codes. It is a treasure trove. Thank you so much for putting this on RUclips. Love and LIght....Peace and joy to ALL as we remember who we truly ARE. 🕊❤️🕊. ⭐️🙏🏻⭐️

The first time I heard this remarkable
Gift of Remembrance, it awoke memories from my pre birth life within the Realms of Heaven.
It took my breath away then, as each individual moment of listening is another witness that my divine remembrance is brought forth as these remarkable, sacred musical notes from the Heavens to continue to acknowledge the divine messages my body resonates within my
    Spiritual DNA.
God Bless you Constance for being allowed to share your divine, sacred talents with this world.
Your supernal music speaks an intergalactic language for this universe we reside, as well as the innumerable worlds that cover the vastness of space.
    Love,
    Elder W.

I first heard this piece on a new age segment of a college radio station back in the late 80s. I've always been into keyboard music and have two synthesizers myself which I play so this definitely caught my attention. I was trying to find out the name of this piece for over 30 years. Shazam nor any other music identifying app or program was ever able to identify it. I think I uploaded part of it to RUclips when Google flagged it as a copyrighted song and finally told me the name which brought me here. I still have my original recordings which sound pretty good because I made several of them on cassette tape. This song is one of the most beautiful and amazing I've ever heard as I love the spiritual journey this song takes you on.
I can never help but to visualize the return of Christ as the music begins to build to the crescendo. I see the clouds begin to light up and separate with thunder and lightning and just as he begins to descend with all the angels and the resurrected saints you hear all those beautiful incredible heavenly sounds an instruments all playing together in Perfect Harmony as he slowly descends to Earth to land in Jerusalem on the Mount of Olives. It's absolutely glorious and one of my favorite pieces of music of all time.
I have played this for friends, family and my dad when he was still with us and he was blown away by this piece of music as well. From the overlays which all work perfectly, there is so much going on that you just never get tired of hearing it. I've always loved a funeral space, heavenly music like this and this is unquestionably one of the best I ever heard. Awesome job Constance, thank you so much

In the eighties, new age was pure and non pretenscious. Just the link with divine essence within us. Even the criminals have that sacred bridge. This music have the power of really connect the outter being with our trully essence. May God bless you, Constance, now that you are on heaven, where your music is a beautiful flower offering the Grace of our Lord. You gave us the fragrance of divine amid these darkened days on Earth. 🙏🏼Enjoy the feast given by the Master for those who shined the Light among us.
