- Well I finally got around to printing the background mountains at Walgreens. It was easy enough and only cost $15 for the entire new section of the layout.

Great job! You've got unique local backdrops that nobody else has. They came out great! Good share on the Walgreens.
May I suggest, the hazy mountain should be behind the darker ones. They look great. Thanks for the idea. Walgreens ✔️
That backdrop is awesome, what a night and day difference. Great job Ric, I love it. Dave B.
Thanks 👍
Looks good Rick. It is coming along nicely. The background adds so much to the layout.
Wow! What difference a background makes! Good job!
Thanks so much! 😊
Wow just look at that! Really awesome in deed! Great job 👏 👍
Love your backdrops! Great job!!
Thanks so much! 😊
Looks good Mr. Rick! Can't wait until the river section gets started.
Looking good hope you have as much fun doing the project as i do watching it
I am!
Looks great! A backdrop always adds so much instantly.
Yes it does!
An incredible price for an incredible backdrop. Really nice job and I like that it’s vinyl so it won’t get wrecked doing scenery.
Looks incredible on the left end with the buildings in the distance, lovely.
That turned out great Rick. Supper idea and execution! $15.00 well spent.
Great idea for a backdrop thanks for the tip Rick. The backdrop looks great.
Glad you like it
Thanks for the Walgreens tip! I wouldn't have thought of them for vinyl backdrops. Your backdrop is about the same height as my middle level so I will keep this option in mind! Thanks for the video!
Looks awesome! Never would have guessed Walgreens for my layout needs. Thanks for the tip!
Makes quite a difference!
Those look awesome!!!
Looks great Rick, I'll be looking into this down the road I'm sure. Thanks for sharing. Have a good weekend and stay safe. Happy modeling!! - Jason
Excellent purchase and of course awesome pictures to start with. It brings the scenes together. Looking good Rick.
Thanks 👍
That looks really nice and $15, awesome!
Looks great, it really makes a difference 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Looks great with the background 😊 it's coming together 👍 from Ohio
Thanks 👍
I love it. That is a great idea. Now I know what to do with my backdrops.
Very nice. Thanks.
I like that so much; plus you can just trim it to match. On the backdrop hills. But I can't believe you slapped down that used toupee, as a thicket area. LOL
Dear Socal, awesome backdrops! Very interesting how you stitched ‘m together, plus how you made that overlap in the round corner of your layout. Definitely will put the vinyl print option on my ‘hard drive.’ Love the way you showed how easy they stand upright even before you mounted ‘m with the Scotch tape. Cheerio
Thank you! Cheers!
Incredible Rick, it's been a while since I've seen your videos and the progress you've made in the expansion is incredible! I'm dying to see videos of operations in the expansion! Greetings to you and Benjami from Guadalajara Jalisco México
Me likey! If I ever get off my duff and start on my new layout I might borrow this idea.
Backdrops turned out great, when you said you ended up going vinyl I got nervous (I just did the matte paper myself, adhered with 3m spray adhesive.) but you definitely made them work!
That turned out absolutely amazing.
Got it looking great Ric! Love your videos and model train layout buddy. Wade
Glad you like them!
That is awesome.
Great job! Make sure you put darker mountains in the foreground
That's the plan!
Great backdrop…unique to your layout
Thanks so much!
Grew up looking at the San Gabriel mountains from Orange County nice to see them again
Looks amazing!
Very nice. Great idea.
Thank you! 😊
That's a good cost effective alternative. Especially if your background is simple scenery. I may have to check into this . I have an eastern mountain scene with all trees. I have pictures on my camera of an area already i took. I may need to look at them and this option. Great look and great price.
Looks sweet! I need about 20ft. of background myself, so thanks for the tip! One other thing, in that back corner I think I'd lay the darker mountains over the light ones as it's the natural progression of the rest of your scenery... Just a thought! Going up in The Valley, I can tell ya either way you go it still looks great!
Hi Rick. Nice backdrops! It’s coming along nice!
That looks great. Nice job!
Thanks!
What a Deal! Looks Super Nice and what a View! 🎉
It really is!
Looks good to me!
WOW! Those backgrounds really look great! Nice job. Would you consider doing a video showing how you spliced the photos together as well as the uploading process?
It looks fantastic !!! Great job
I love when something that cheap has that much effect.
Rick, that's such a great idea with a great price, I bet this will catch on with other modelers except the ones modeling any of the Rocky Mountains. I'm looking into using the Bookcliffs in eastern utah, or central Utah along the Lake Bonneville Basin. I'll say this again, well done Rick ! 🦡
Only thing I didn't hear is how do you keep your poster of the mountains up, thumb tacs, glue or something else?
I wish that I was out of this nursing facility I could get you some highly detailed shots of our industry that produces drywall products and a tank car to truck transfer with three tracks for spotting the tankers. 🦡
Nice. I think it looks very good.
Thank you! Cheers!
Mint!👍👍🚂🏞🏞🏞🙋
Hey Rick , the backdrop is a great value an looks very impressive and not just paper , nice.
I'm in Canada so , no Walgreens here , however we have Staples an office supply store . I'm definitely going to see if they offer something similar as I know the do custom banners 😁
So fingers crossed . Rick its hard to believe the difference a good looking backdrop makes ,
nice milestone for the new section of Orange county , congratulations 🎉
Cheers and thanks for sharing , an hi to conductor Benjamin , take care till the next time.
hello Rick it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool Thanks Rick Friends Randy
Yea buddy!!!!!! Thats great man! That's a cheap way to get 24ft of printed background!!!
Hey Rick, congrats on being featured in the NMRA Turntable newsletter! 😃👍 (I tried to get a link but I think it’s members only.) Great job! D
I dont think it was me, or I would have known about it. lol
No, I got the email yesterday.
They featured this video with a link and a photo and some text about the vinyl banner from Walgreens.
They had links to about a dozen videos from different channels in total but I noticed yours right away. Hope you get some traffic from it!! 😃 I’ll figure out how to get you a copy. D
Excellent!!
Many thanks!
I worked at Palomar Observatory and I always see it in your videos on the background. :)
lol, thats cool. Yes, I can see it from my backyard. I made sure to cut around it to keep it in the background pix.
Look great enjoy your videos
love the videos how did you design 3 rows in the walgreens app 2x8 banner i took 3 different panarama pics and they said they could not figure how to do 3 different photos on one banner
You can shrink down the image. I just eyeballed it to be about 1/3rd of the 2'. Then I did a copy/paste and just moved the next image until I had it right around where the last one left off.
Looks awesome❤
Thank you 😋
looks good
Show us how you attach and what do you use for adhesive.
It looks spectacular. Could you explain to me how you figure out the scale of the pictures and how you upload pictures so that they can be printed for you. I'm not the best at being tech-savvy. 😊
You do it completely thru walgreens site here: photo.walgreens.com/store/banners-details#/pdpview?sku=CommerceProduct_24242&app=BANNERS&productCategory=Home%20Decor
the pictures you took,, were they panoramic ? Vinyl is nice, doesn't rip then. very nice
No they were not, but I did do a quick video the other day about a free software to use for creating them. ruclips.net/video/-Gu7RsGDo4Y/видео.htmlsi=G_PkfZ0EBE6Qr9C9
lookin good rick =]
Looks great, I need to do that exact same project on my layout. What is you base background color? Thanks - Steve
The backgrounds are painted a very light blue.
@@socalscalemodels thanks, would love the color name if you have it. I bought some blue for my base and it didn’t come out the shade as I had hoped. Really enjoy the info on how you did your backgrounds.
Your backgrounds are amazingly good. Just one thing, should the lighter tone mountain be behind the dark tone in the overlapped section?
Aw, shucks! I don't think we've got anything so well priced here in the UK.
It looks great Rick and vinyl at that. So question, are you going to replace the backdrops on the other parts of the layout in the future? Also is it a big difference its hard to tell from a video?
I probably will as the new ones are much better. No fading, no warping.
Any chance you could make a tutorial on how you take and combine the photos? It looks really good and for $15 bucks thats a price that cant be beat.
Already did: ruclips.net/video/-Gu7RsGDo4Y/видео.htmlsi=RgwKywoajxSxBqgG
Nice
Thanks
shoot here in arizona the walgreens banner costs $52 plus tax !
Just google 'walgreens photo coupon code' and you will find at least a 40% or more off coupon. They run them all the time.
@@socalscalemodelsty
You kinda sound like Alan Alda 😂 (not a bad thing. He has a cool voice)
👍🤠👍
Mountains actually get lighter the farther away they are.
You would be better to pasts or glue it up and not use tape which doesn't hold very good
I've got a suggestion, could you please do a show again on how you weather your cars, I was looking at them as you was scanning across your layout. 🦡
