I understand that when you are carving something very tall changes may have to be made to the proportions due to the perspective of the viewer from the ground. For example if you are carving a 20 foot human form, do you have to change the body proportions so that it appears correct to the viewer at ground level?
Hey that's a really good question. Michaelangelo for that with his David sculpture. I do try to keep looking at larger pieces from the ground to make sure it looks right, and I have slightly enlarged the upper parts on occasion. The main thing is to keep measuring the proportions and stick to those. I would base anything like that on where the main viewing point is. If most people are viewing from a distance then cater to that.
Amazing!
