    I have a few old books that I plan to use. Another artist uses old cookbooks because the pages are large and good quality. I think if glossy, they'll need some gesso first. Thanks for your inspiring videos, Louise!

    I love this. I am kind of on a similiar journey with multiple books... they evolve in a way that each creates its own theme or vibe. Your work here is giving me more permission to keep going✨❤️‍🔥 thank you from the North California coast🌊💖

    Thank you for sharing your current sketch books, Louise. Very inspirational! I often used old maps, books , net curtains, strings , sawdust, and sand in order to create intriguing surfaces. 😊👍

    Along with working in several current ones, looking thru my old finished sketchbooks every once in a while gives me joy. I judge myself thru different eyes, because they almost seem done by someone else (bad memory, heh heh). To see the stages, and how far I've come, that's a reward in itself!

    It’s scary how much your paper stash looks like mine! Love love love old papers and books. Never thought to use one of my books as an actual sketchbook rather than just fodder. Off to find one with thick paper!

    I love the concept of repurposing old books to serve as sketchbooks! A wonderful way to be more experimental and feel free to play! I have a stash of different papers, materials , and found objects awaiting use in a creative project. Thank you for the inspirational video, Louise!

    Those tickets were price tickets, Louise. When we cleared the house after my mother-in-law passed away we found lots of linen, pillow cases, etc that still had their 1950s price tickets on - just like the ones in your stash! Your video is a really good reminder; I remember the previous lesson on collage in sketchbooks in the Hub when I first joined Art Tribe after your free course in May 2022. The best thing I ever did - you helped me find my way again. ❤

    Looking forward to seeing your choices and hearing your words. I have old books that I may never read, that could be used for collaging, when I get round to finishing my current projects.😊

    Thank you Louise! I liked what you said about working in sketchbooks when you don’t necessarily want to work on bigger pieces. Sometimes I think that allows for more freedom when I work smaller! ❤🎨❤️

    I started sketchbooks as a way to make things I like, and try to make every page as beautifull as I could on that page. It was an ARTjournal. Now I use several sketchbooks to play and the outcome is not important. That help me really to get my creativity going.

    ketch book as then they are no longer available for a painting. How do you get over this?This was very helpful. I have tons of old books I want to use as sketchbooks. My problem is that with things like old ledgers I am afraid to put them in sketch books as then they are no longer available for paintings... how do you get over this?

    Louise, I make these little beautiful small gems in my notebooks and smaller thumbnails, BUT when I love a composition and go to make very large 18x24 ish it just doesn't pan out, and does not have the same "feel"... so my question is how do I arrive at the bigger mixed media/collage paintings LARGE that work.?????

    • @ThisPaintingLife
      @ThisPaintingLife  7 месяцев назад

      I think instead of trying to recreate it exactly on a larger scale, it would be better to use it as inspiration to create something bigger. I use these are more of a way to be creative without the idea of needing to make a painting out of it. ❤

      Hi Darla. Yes, sometimes I do but most of the time I use them for inspiration or to help with a creative block.
