Enjoyed spending time in the south..including seeing the Neville Brothers in about 1974 when they were the house band at TipiTina's in NOLA...but first saw Jesse at The Riverboat, a small coffeehouse in a basement in Yorkville, a well known coffee house in Toronto, where many folkies performed when starting out. Joni Mitchell, etc...though Joni first performed a short walk from me on Broadway Avenue in Saskatoon. Think she was still in high school,,,but I digress..
Jesse moved to Canada in 1967,,,so grateful my country welcomed men who made the choice to leave the US...and glad that now I feel better about travelling in your wonderful country again. He sang "Jesus was s Teenager Too" at my request. Yes, I had a fan crush on him. Grateful to the Peanut Farmer who granted amnesty so those who wanted to could move back.

Many a night at Tipitina’s. Loved it. Loved all these guys. And Aaron.

While I deeply love his ballads, today I am celebrating Jesse Winchester's life with this video - his performance of my favourite fun, uptempo song that he wrote. Fantastic! Thank you Jesse - and thank you Jimmy for introducing Jesse to the stage so perfectly.

Just saw this video for the first time today, 9.4.23, and I'm kinda mad it took me so long. Thank the Lord for my friend, Bruce Anfinson, for introducing it to me during a discussion on the passing this past week of Mr. Buffett. What a great song - in every aspect!

Ain't it funny, for years I have always thought that Jesse Winchester was a Canadian, born near Robbie, yes simply because Robbie Robertson of the Band was responsible for promoting his talents at the start of his career most of The Band including Levon Helm, Rick Danko, and Robbie played on his first album. Then I watch this and good ol Jimmy Buffet who I had the great pleasure of sharing a few Coors beers he had imported from Colorado when I resided in Ft Lauderdale, in the 70's we even talked about him and Steve Gibson another great singer-songwriter and close friend of Jimmy's, but Jesse's place of birth never came up. Now Jimmy tells me, all these years later Bossier City Louisiana, I think just a few years before Jesse the great man passed in 2014. Well its good, and never to late to know your not always right about stuff. Ally.

Interesting to see Jesse & Allen Toussaint here as Mr. Toussaint is the actual author of Rhumba Man. Listen to "There's A Break in the Road" first covered by Betty Harris in 1969.
