A note from Jakob (the editor) on video gear:
There are a lot of things we use to make videos that I wouldn't recommend people to use for theirs. It's just stuff we had on hand, so it's what we use. That being said, there are things we use that I would recommend, and those are listed below. I'm working on putting together a FULL recommended list of equipment to get your videos looking super sharp. That's coming soon :)
SOME GEAR WE USE:

This was super fun. I think you guys are going to love my next inappropriate setting!
I can't wait to see it!😆
100% going to be on the toilet next time. lol
@@PreppinShootinLivin NOooooo😆
Sea of Rust!!! 😍
I'm sorta jealous I didn't think of this.
Man, this was such a good idea John and Jakob, what a great community. Can’t say I’ve seen anybody else on booktube who have done this. And I got inspired myself watching this 😃👍
This makes our week my friend thanks so much.
It's always fun to see people be enthusiastic and passionate about books! Love the concept, great video!
And the shelf envy is real!
Oh, and I started Strange New Worlds. It's great. It's different (as in a new story), but it definitely feels like Star Trek. Thanks for bringing that up and refreshing my memory to check it out!
I love that classic Trek fell it brings!
This was awesome, thanks for sharing my clip and I can't wait for more Town Square! And I'm glad you liked my bookshelf :) PS - Jakob, sounds like we've got to get your dad into Dragonball 😂
Ohhhhh he try’s to get me into so many things 😂
Town square is truly a brilliant idea 💡! This was awesome 🤩 to watch!!!! 💯
Thanks so much Amanda
Aaah, I knew this was gonna be fun, but I wasn't expecting them all to knock it out of the park so hard! Absolutely love this community, already looking forward to the next Town Square! Thanks so much for doing this 🤩
Such a blast!
This was awesome to watch- except hearing my voice. That pained me. It absolutely made my day to hear that you were more enticed to read Hobb after that. Realm of the Elderling is easily my favorite series for its characters, themes, and for helping me get through hard times. Dr. Phillip Chase helped me work through my thoughts on Fool’s Errand- he had fantastic insight on it.And I am so happy I’m not done with it. I loved seeing everybody talk about Sun eater too. Such a fantastic series- they made me want to reread it. Also, you guys can use my name- I gave up trying to hide it a while back because there is no reason in my eyes. Regardless, I am absolutely going to do it again and hopefully improve my video voice. And seeing some new books I have never even heard of before in here was just so cool. I loved it. KEEP THE HOBB PREACHING HEIDI! Anyways, to the crazy people who read this far- I hope you have a great day. Now back to finishing up Curse of the Mistwraith for me.
Dude your voice is great! Can't wait for me bookish content from you my friend!
The impression was impeccable.
😂thanks u r very kind.
Cool idea. Very interesting to see all this different clips and hear all this recommendations.
Thanks it was so much fun. I hope it just keeps growing!
Amazing Kirk impression!
😂thanks
Happy to be the intro of the first town hall in history. And I made the thumbnail?! You guys are too nice. Killer experience, love the concept. You guys are revolutionizing the world of internet videos
This is so awesome to have faces and input on the channel from all of you guys. Can’t tell u how happy it makes us.
Super fun video and amazing idea! I bet these keep getting better and better! Excellent first Town Square!
Thanks Brian!
What a bunch of wonderful people! Makes me so happy ❤
Oh yes!
This was fun John, glad to see people getting involved with the Patreon...it's tempting me to get involved with your Patreon, see if I can get in on the action!
Great stuff!
Glad you had a good time nephew.
This channel has surpassed Mike and Matt's channels for one of my favorites. I just love their dynamic like how Austin and Richard.
Wow those are great channel to be named amongst I appreciate it so much. Thanks!
This video makes my heart soar. Look at your subscribers go!
They are the absolute best!
Glad to be part of this inaugural episode! I'll be back next month with more book talk!
Awesome my friend!
Brilliant! Seems like everyone's reading Sun Eater, I'm so behind seriously need to catch up (thanks for the pitch Burger)
I think you will really dig Suneater.
This was awesome. You keep saying we don't need you, but hell, you're quite literally giving us a voice. Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks for that and it is my absolute pleasure!
Welp just added the Pointy Stick Book to my TBR
Sounds amazing right?!
What a fun video! Look forward to seeing more. 😊
Thanks so much! I am looking forward to it as well.
This was so much fun John! Incidentally, you need to start reading Hobb. I’m waiting. 😂
I gotta get to her as well!
This is really unique. Fair play John (and Jakob)
Thanks so much glad you enjoyed it.
This was amazing got a good laugh, and the ideal is just pure geniuss...........
Thanks so much! Can’t wait for the one coming up in June!
I LOVE SEA OF RUST!! No one talks about it!!
I have it on my list. Will get to it.
This was amazing. I honestly was waiting to finish Witchy Eye to gush about it, but ended up being able to finish it yesterday. Will definitely send one for the next Town Hall.
I will absolutely look forward to that! Gonna be 1 every month.
I read Witchy Eye last month. It was so interesting! I don't think I've ever read anything like it.
@@akellerhouse83 I am ready to dive in. Just gotta get a slot for it.
I can see this taking off so much that it'll end up having to be a once a week thing.
I would be down with that
This is amazing. How you value your patreon's voices, makes me want to sign up too!!! Keep up the great work!!! Loving your channel more every day! ❤
Thanks so much for that makes our week!
"I haven't watched any of them all the way through"... well let's hope this doesn't go sideways :D And listen to Josh. Sea of Rust was so good. Brittle is one of my favorite book robots of all time.
I loved this! Everyone was soooo awesome!
Yes, listen to Josh
@@joshobrien4960 I do I do!
This is going to make your channel explode. This paired with a good live stream becomes community. I think I am going to join, if not to throw my content in with a community. (I only read and recite my own work on my channel, so it's not a review channel. I am an author) , and it will be a good place to share work, 2300 word short stories, etc.
You are funny and engaging. This paired with a strong live stream and/or discord always propels the growth of a channel. I have seen it myself with the likes of The Why Files. You have your son's strong editing skills (I forgot his actual degree) and banter that help, and of course Pooh bear.
Basically what I have seen on my time on RUclips that community building from the ground up like this, where people that are your fans can meet and becomes friends, is the number one way to buid a solid channel, first and foremost. and you got all the rest.
Never count out the magic of Pooh Bear. Would love to see some reading of your works on here if you take the plunge and join in. Thanks so much for all the kind words.
What unique fun idea! Between this and the family feel/involvement in your videos, the channel is starting to really stand out become a must watch for me. Also yeah, you gotta read Hobb. I just finished the series and it’s the first author , of any genre, in 20 years that has come close to dethroning Tolkien as my number 1.
Wow that is crazy high praise and such lovely compliments thank you so much.
This was so fun!!
Thanks we had a blast!
I knew this was going to be cool....and I imagine you guys will only grow this into even more cool things...like some possibilities would be book club/buddy read style, where you ask everyone to read the same book or start the same book so every video is their thoughts on the book or the X number of chapters of said book. And of course you can do even more stuff with all this.... but yeah, good stuff!
I was just thinking, maybe another possibility is that you list 5-10 books you want to read and then all the video entries will be everyone's recommendation from that list and then you have to pick the book that gets the best recommendation that sells you on it. Then you read and review that book and maybe have those same people that recommend it also do another video about their further thoughts/spoilers that you can add to the end of your review of that book. Anyway....
@@PreppinShootinLivin So many possibilities. I can't wait to see how it grows. Thanks so much for the kindness and the great ideas!
OMG I loved this! Josh O’Brien was my favorite😂. Any book worth recommending during a work meeting is a must read!
I know it’s more work for Jakob (LOL!), but is there anyway the Booktubers who participated can be tagged in the description?
sure we could do that I didn't know anyone had a channel to tag in this group.
@@Talking_StoryThat’s my total bad lol. I just assumed some of them were Booktubers.
@@KindlesandKicks not to my knowledge. If any are let me know we can add links to the description no prob.
This was so great. I love the sense of community this creates! I didn't get a video in this month, but I'll be sure to get one in next month!
John, have you read Beneath a Scarlet Sky? If not, my video will be the elevator pitch on why you should pick it up
I have not I can’t wait for you to sway me on it.
Andrew pleased me greatly! 😍 Jakob, The Spear Cuts Through Water is a standalone, if that sways you to read it sooner!
Vanished Birds is coming up fast!
@@Talking_Story I demand thoughts as you read! Haha.
@@SheWasOnlyEvie no problem
I want to send something, but I have ADHD and I'm slammed for taking care of stuff. One day. I love you guys.
We will be here when you get it all set up and have time. Can’t wait to see what you send our way.
This was super fun :)
Thanks so much!
This was a awesome video favorite one so far
It was truly special to me as well!
Haha, never stop doing the Kirk, John! 😄
Lovely to hear Heidi, awesome lady! 😃
Well unlike poor (but hillarious) Josh, as a librarian I am surrounded only by the most loveliest of people at my work, but since where I am is currently hotter than anywhere in Europe outside of Greece, I could have done Robin Williams in "Good Morning Vietnam!": "It's HOT!"🤣
That said, I will recieve my library copy of "The Dragonbone Chair" by Ted Williams soon, and I have located the only library copy of "Demon in White" in my country, so me and Mr. Ruocchio are gonna tango again in the not to-far-future! The Mac is on your tail, Mr Ruocchio, and I'm in no hurry, I can can wait! (shark fin slowly descending to the theme of "Jaws") 😄Cheers!
Thanks so much. I look forward to all the lists as you go through Suneater my friend.
@@Talking_Story John, have you read "Tales of the Sun Eater vol 1"?
@@MacScarfield I have read lesser devil but not all the other short stories.
I loved this!!
It was awesome right?!
That was fun and a great idea!
Thanks so much!
That Robin Hobb passage was just about a ship, John & Jakob!! 😜 See…you got a very small sample of Hobb’s greatness.
I wished I would have played more of Harlan Ellison’s voice as his performance is so frenetic and so amazing! The only thing that comes close is Buehlman narrating the Black Tongue Thief!
Thank you for showing 3 of my shorts I had so much fun creating them!
We were well aware it was about a ship but still,,,spicy. So great keep the great stuff coming Heidi!
Is the Blacktongue Thief an American doing an Irish accent for the narration? cuz I'm getting flashbacks to Tom Cruise in Far and Away 😂
@@thatsci-firogue
It is an amalgamation of accents, it takes place in a fantasy world after all and it is truly a magical performance! I loved it! You never get a ho-hum moment in any of the Buehlman novels I read so far.
@@thatsci-firogue the author is American I am pretty sure and he does the narration.
This is such fun concept! This convinced me, I need to get in to that patreon thing. However don't know if I will succed with making a clip for upcoming town squares (I suck with techology 🤣 ) Also I think you guys are selling yourself a little bit short. There is a reason all of this is so successful, that's all I'm saying :)
Just grab your phone I know you can make it happen my friend. Also thanks for the kindness.
@@Talking_Story I don't know, might accidentally launch myself into orbit when the phone explodes or something. But hey, bett I will be the first to make booktube content from space then! XD
@@emzstern booktube in space? Where do I sign up 😂
@@Talking_Story Yeah I am not sure myself but it sure sounds cool! X''D
emzstern if I can create a short you can too, Jakob helped me make it private but still able to share it with Talking Story. Send it to him and he will make sure you have the right settings.
This is such a fun idea! 😁
So fun!
Sorry I didn't submit for this one, I've got an idea for a recording I'll submit in the coming days for next month. It'll be a book pitch 🙂
Wonderful!
