  • A full review of this handy little tool for the home DIYer.
It's a tape measure, metric and imperial ruler, spirit level, and laser level.
Well this is going to be great for doing a few jobs around the house. I'm not going to be using this for work as it's not as accurate as I need, but nether the less, for the price it's not a bad little tool at all.

Very useful video, thank you. You can actually adjust the laser at the front with a screwdriver to calibrate it, matching it against the larger spirit level.

Hi, how much pressure did you have to use to make the adjustment? I chickened out before I could get the adjuster ring to move.

@@arthurbufton704 It might just need loosening, as mine was very easy to adjust.

@@TimWrightDJ No luck with my assorted screwdrivers; either not wide enough or blade too thick. However the back of a knife did the job! Very stiff to move and almost impossible to fine tune, so backed off a bit and tried the adjustment in one move. Repeated till it worked! Now the laser level is at least as (in)accurate as my (cheap) 3 feet level.

When you calibrate this devices level, just put a thin dot /line on one side of the bubble with a nail polisher.

I bought a try square that was reduced once. Never again, as it was not square.
This level could be improved with a base to give it extra width, and maybe to give it appropriate adjustment. Or you could get to know it’s inaccuracy and allow for it.

just find a 0 degree magnet plate underneath on that device and or fix it underneath so i will stand straight because the bottom is slightly not level

I mounted mine on a small piece of 18mm plywood, which had overhang of 30mm on front and rear. I then use my boat level to set the ply level. Then i know, the laser level will be 'bang on'.
I always do a quick check with my 4ft stabila of the laser line, and the ply works great.I
Just that mounting it means you cant use the tape measure again, but hey ho

There is a possibility your yellow measure is out,I have one of those cheaper levels and I checked it with a higher quality made level and it was out by a little bit,I'm not saying yours is a low quality level Justin but it looks very similar to the one I have,You can get that same laser level with a small tripod on ebay for under £10 which might help with the leveling

You're making this far too complicated.
    1. Find a room with a level ceiling an two flat walls at a right angle with each other.
    2. With the help of two friends measure down from the ceiling to about eye level, and snap a chalk line on two walls.
    3. Buy a tripod with a height adjustment.
    4. Buy a couple spirit level vials.
    5. Since the spirit levels of the device are not level with the base nor necessarily the laser, you simply adjust the height and the angle of the top of the tripod so the laser matches the lines on the walls. It is now calibrated level.
    6. Next, simply epoxy the device to the top of the tripod, and then epoxy the spirit levels so they are both exactly level in both directions. Now, any time you want to use the laser, you simply adjust the height and level.
    7. When you want to measure something, you already have something to hold the tape measure for you so all you need to do is pick up whatever you want to measure and move it over to the device. You could even get one of those tripod sleeves with sling to carry it around with along with the extra batteries.
Problem solved! AND instead of paying $32 for a self-leveling laser, you made your own for $13 that you also level yourself along with buying a few extra parts. (tic)
PS: I heard they even used it to construct a famous structure in Pisa, Italy.

How is a spirit Level that is not level, useful for a DIYer, don't DIYers need their horizontals/verticals to be well, horizontal and vertical? One could actually by a decent ruler and a tape measure for a tenner.

Put it on a TRIPOD! Spend $32 and buy a self leveling laser level...time is money and you already wasted 5 times $32 of your time screwing around. "not quite right" when you turn it around means it is out of calibration and it is probably NOT calibratable! NOT GOOD! Why waste $10. It is NOt handy for pictures because just as you pointed out the inaccuracy of the level vial on the lazer's axis.
