Yi Sun-Sin: “Take my fleet to a spot picked out by the Japanese? Come on, who would be stupid enough to fall for this obvious trap?”

I read the title and shocked :|. Fortunately and eventually, the fate made him being remembered as one or maybe the greatest hero of Korea, saved his nation. But the betrayal, stupid official, jealousy, and incompetent officers made his life seems miserable sad, not forgetting many of his kin killed by Japanese. I am cried for his burden. He is indeed a strong man :)

It is nice to learn about the mistakes of Korean government. One thing I never knew when I was young, even though I am a Korean myself, was how those incompetent admirals were responsible for the invasion. I don't think I learn that in my school. Thank you for being neutral in that regard. It is more important to know the truth than the sweet biased lies.

I get the point, but that type of weird thinking is actually not that uniquely exclusive to Korea. Historical examples are aplenty when it comes to kings or leaders becoming suspicious of capable generals with high reputation and military power, and ended up purging them after their job was done. ancient ones like general Han Xin from Chu-Han contention or others from the three kingdoms era come to mind.

I wonder how many other great generals we have not heard about because they were sabotaged or eliminated by their own country.
Another great general, Scipio Africanus, was poorly treated.
He was considered by the military historian, B. H. Liddell-Hart, to be the best general that EVER lived. Better than Napoleon, Caesar, and Alexander the Great. Yet, he was so poorly treated, that he left Rome, and when he died he had his tomb read, something like "Rome, you shall not even possess my bones."
FYI - he defeated the great Hannibal -- on a field chosen by Hannibal, and with fewer troops. He also NEVER lost a battle. Well, read the book.

Sam Hawley has been transparent and has explicitly stated his book was written from the perspective of the Koreans of the Joseon dynasty whilst being both historical accurate and also covering the myriad of salient variables of the conflict.
I get the sense that you are apprised that there are many publications written from both the Chinese Ming and Hideyoshi's Japanese perspective.
Have you actually read Sam Hawley's excellent book, LiRan? "The Imjin War" is immensely more detailed, immersive, and comprehensive than these videos LiRan!

@@odinsoneeye7501 no i have not read the book, have watched all the vedios, and my feeling is, Korea is not important in the imjin war, should be the Chinese and the Japanese that matters, my bias opinion, the Korean wars that fought through out history sadly are never about Koreans...

@@liran547 Typical CCP one-party system's University edification without open critical understanding of geopolitics.
Yes, the big players were Ming China and the newly unified Nobunaga samurai goverment, but to say that Korea was not important in the Invasion of Korea is more a testament to your own cerebral failings and deficits, rather than a lucid argument for Sam Hawley to change the title of his book; a book you admittedly did not even read.

Samuel Hawley Ok. My apologies. I take your word but every time I make a critical comment about Koreans or S. Korea, it disappears. It’s probably S. Korean net citizens reporting it. Korean nationalism is renown. Criticism is a faux-pas.

@@laviebanale No offense taken. I had a comment of my own deleted recently when I responded to a comment left by a Chinese nationalist and used the Chinese expression for govt. funded troll (which I won't repeat here). I guess that's no-no with RUclips. Their algorithm is apparently set up to automatically delete certain things.
