When I did my MGA carbs, I blasted them with crushed walnut shell media, and then rubbed them with some Simichrome polish. This gave me the clean aluminum look I was after similar to what you achieved.
Far easier to VAPOR BLAST , and results look better than new , and it only takes about three minutes to have a perfectly bright clean carb body , and as for the throttle shaft bushings , their not CAST IN , i use a threading tap to pull them out , and after the new bushing are installed I also put an O-RING ON THE SHAFT so it is air tight , you might want to try those more modern methods.

Hi John nice use of oilite bushes i remember using them in the late 60's we we used to vacumm pump them in an oven .
