  • Has anyone ever told you that you use your phone too much? I have. Multiple times. But what does that question really means? What does it entail? Do I have a phone addiction? There's no right or wrong answer and quite honestly, the answer will be different from person to person depending on who it affects and how it affects those around them. This video is about a story that happened in the past 6 months that gave meaning and answer to those questions in my life.
    Just two disclaimers:
    1. Reading is a way for me to break my phone addiction and is not by any means an alternative to spending time with Milo or my wife. The difference between the two is that for me, it is much easier to put a book down versus putting my phone down. By addressing the underlying problem and cutting off opportunities for failure, I am able to put my priorities in order which is my family.
    2. The book I showed in this video was actually my own copy of Atomic Habits by James Clear. I did borrow this book from the library back in Fall 2023 after being on the waitlist for weeks. Midway through the book, I found a used copy at a local thrift store and purchased it for myself. I wanted to bring the audience back to that moment because it was a key building block of this story.
    Happy watching!

What alternatives have you tried to minimize your phone usage?

I have tried new hobbies, some with more and less success. Also I have analyzed reasons behind my addiction and made phone usage harder and less appealing with greyscale and screenzen app. I'm usually good, but then there is days when I have anxiety or too much stress, then it's really hard to resist old coping mechanism. But so far I have hopped back with my tools and alternatives.

@@minde7181 I agree with you there. There's definitely days (even weeks) when I'm in the slump and its just a black hole that sucks you in. Glad to hear from your success. Maybe I should give the greyscale a shot on my phone to make things less attractive.

You are really good with telling your story! Visuals, little pauses and so on, really stopping video really! I'm addict with phone, I have been out for while but still considering myself as addict as I still fall easily to that hole. This was really helpful and clarified my vision of future as I have kids and the way Milo seeked attention, reminded me of my kids. It's heartbreaking! Going to save this video to my personal "when I'm in the hole" -playlist
