You know when a guy is on another level...he seems to have so much more time than others. Tallish for a flyhalf at 6'3 but had that sublime running gate that made him glide across the turf, and perhaps the best passing game i can recall. Absolute wizard with ball in hand....so often he'd transfix a defence to the point they would just stand off and slide with him waiting to see what he would do. He'd dare a defence to get up fast in his face so he could use those fringe holes it would create. A "beautiful" player to watch. Remains the most gifted and attacking weapon at #10 i've seen....and i can still rate Dan Carter number 1 whilst saying that.
Never seen a better five eigth play so flat... Would cause chaos with mortlock running straight on his outside... Flat spiral passes to his outsides.. Brilliant player and as a kiwi .. have never enjoyed watching a player more than this guy
Growing up in Samoa everyone loved Carlos Spencer. Me however it was always Larkem. His head gear and broken nose and the fact that he always looked like he belonged to the coaching crew than on the field earned my respect considering the type of players he was up against. After he finished with Australia my love for the aussies went with him lol
His ability to swerve, accelerate, step and change pace, while carrying the ball in both hands, just made him an exceptional 5/8. That talent always gave him the extra yard or so decision making room to be as brilliant as any Rugby 5/8 ever - yes, even mark Ella. 🙂
I'm an American/Kiwi All Black fan and feared no other international player more than Larkham. My family hated me going on about him. He had 'spidey sense' and no matter where in the field he broke he would know where his teammates were without looking and always had a pinpoint pass to deliver if he couldn't score himself. He tore holes in the opposition and caused huge chaos against any defensive strategies. I never had more pleasure watching someone play on the opposite side of the field to my team.
It really shows the benefit of having a light weight #10. The acceleration they have is worth 10x more than any amount of top speed or strength people think is so important. Bauden Barrett is quickly becoming the current day Larkham, and luckily for him he is surrounded by a team that can keep up with his brilliance.
The guy was good. I remember when he bust on the scene as a fullback, he was already something special. His timing and gas just made him go through defenses like knife and butter. As a kiwi I thought he was awesome and it he, gregan, mortlock, and that 15 whose name i forget were match winners 24/7.
A true artist. Late 90's / early 2000's. What a cool time to go to Wallaby games. Gregan and Larkham like Kobe n Shaq, then Kefu and the Tongan Connection. haha amazing players.
wow seems so long ago for aussie rugby. As an AB's fan growing up in aus i used to hate steve larkham, just one of the best passers of the ball ive ever seen.
This guy is one of my 10 heroes. I rate him alongside side Carter, Wilkinson, Sexton, Pollard, B.Barrett. His backplay and quick ball only compares to maybe the likes of Carter, The Barrets, Wilkonson or Sexton (forgive my bias im Irish)
I'm happy to admit Jonah Lomu may well have been the GOAT - may he RIP - and back in the day, I would always shit myself whenever he received the ball. However, man is it satisfying to see him beaten in two consecutive clips from 8:15 onwards by a fellow countryman (who I believe is Joe Roff. Please correct me if I'm wrong).

His passing game was something else... perfect number 10
one of the world's most underrated players
The best #10 player ever in world rugby..The combination with Gregan is what keeps us glued to the screen whenever the wallabies play..
His ability to swerve, accelerate, step and change pace, while carrying the ball in both hands, just made him an exceptional 5/8. That talent always gave him the extra yard or so decision making room to be as brilliant as any Rugby 5/8 ever - yes, even mark Ella.

One of the best men in the world to wear number 10.

In Fijian villages we used to call him " Na Nitu" meaning " The Devil" because he sliced through defences with ease
i remember when i was a kid
my friends would shout his name while playing touch footy imitating his style of play
The Stephen Larkham/Andrew Walker combination was always sublime
Walker had a great punt too.
Humble. Quiet. One of the Greatest #10 in the world, ever....

The link between Barret and Larkham is true. He reminds me of him on some points.
Yep skill trumps physicality.
Autentico fuoriclasse, il mio preferito in assoluto. Grazie per questo video, specie per le immagini di inizio carriera.
He always seemed to have plenty of time and when he ran he just glided.
The sign of true class
What an amazing video. Thank you for that.
great compilation good work

Chris Latham, and yeah, back when the Wallabies were something to fear. Shame about where we are in 2017.
@@m00d_fm Sadder still in 2018...

The most fun player to watch of all time...genius.
My favourite all time player.
Best play maker i,ve ever seen, a true escapist.
3.14 : vision, patience, intelligence and skills.

This man was a pain in our ass as a allblack fan I feared every time he had a sneaky sliding run that made him seem untouchable
Greatest fly half ever
criminally underrated
Don't know about that, he's consistently rated as one of the best ever. In the discussion with Carter for best of the pro era.
Bernie ! We miss you...

One of the best 10s ever,
Show me another highlights package that makes the All Black and NZ provincial sides look this second rate. There is none.
3:24 cheat code activated
Love that.
GENIUS!!!!!!!! How badly do australia need him back.....but there is hope.........BAD BOY of rugby - james o connor can do it for them
Class player, could really light up the backline.

superb
What's the name of the music towards the end of the video please????
Mon joueur préféré
Very special player, gave me a lot of anxiety and created the first official safe place in my bedroom. #Larkhamrespectfromyourkiwicousins
Was your typical australian 1st-five. Not known as tactical kickers but excellent runners and passers of the ball.

Chris Latham instead of Roff

He would've been the best ever first-five-eight in the NRL.
