Today I am bringing you a video that I took on Friday February 7 at Langelandsbælt Denmark. It is a Panamanian flagged Bulk Carrier, Zheng Hui. As Zheng Hui appeared in the distance all looked good for a ship sailing on the constrained line (AIS Draught 14.3m). However, from my unqualified eye she seemed to be moving in a direction that would take her into shallower waters, outside the channel marked for vessels sailing under constrained rules. The pilot bordered her and it became immediately obvious to me that all may not be well. She turned to port and back to the deeper channel. She continued on this trajectory until in the deeper channel. Now I am not saying that I am any kind of maritime expert or she was sailing dangerously however, it, I believe, does highlight the dangers of inexperienced crew not having local knowledge and a pilot to help. This all happened on a day when at that time there were more than 6 vessels plus 2 ferry movements in the area. As the carried cargos potentially included chemicals and oil this could have easily turned out to be a disaster in Danish waters that are heavily used by vessels from all nations.
