Travis Fimmel on "Vikings" HFPA Exclusive

- Michael Hirst’s Vikings has been a runaway hit for the History Channel which has built a solid following for its saga of Norse warriors and their legendary deeds of conquest and valor (and, oh yes, rape and pillage and intrigue). The story’s protagonist is Ragnar Lothbrok, loosely based on the historical figure of the same name, a Viking farmer who rose to become a powerful clan leader, raider and explorer. He is played by aussie Travis Fimmel who has ridden his role to international fame. Fimmel is currently filming the lead role in World of Warcraft, also starring Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper and Paula Patton. In March History renewed Vikings for a third ten-episode season which is shooting in Ireland. We caught up with Fimmel on his way to the set.

He's Australian and speaks with an Aussie accent.

I've some Scandinavian heritage myself, so I can say this----The 'Vikings' actors keep dodging the violence by saying it's a 'family drama' and the Vikings had 'feelings', loyalty, etc. So what? Vikings themselves executed other Vikings for murder and theft, so Viking culture did indeed recognize killing and stealing has a social transgression. I guess as long as it was a defenseless monastery, it was all right to kill monks for their valuables to feed their own children back home, but Anglo-Saxon children could go to hell. As much as I admire the rugged daring and adventurous spirit of the Vikings, they really were a contemptible lot, seriously.....

He looks like he's in his 30s with a beard. Which is what he is. You can't have seen may 60 years olds to compare him to that age group.
