Kiive Audio has emerged in the past two years to be at the absolute TOP of realistically useful and damn fine sounding technology. I have been REALLY surprised. ..their new one, what’s it called, FUSE? Absolutely insane. Not a “knock you on your ass” device, but so INCREDIBLY good sounding and USEFUL. The same goes for this piece here. …just when you thought you’d seen it all… nope! And their XTComp/Xtressor, well… I don’t use that very often, I only use it when I’m recording or mixing audio. 😆😆

I have the original unit (bought new in 1977) and the Complexx does not work quite the same way. The interaction between the Stereo input level and individual channel level is most odd. These compressors need to first be set up so with the input gain and limiter in so that the peak limiter is just triggering to set the gain level and all the thresholds through the unit correctly, the limiter can then be switched off if not needed. I'm sure you know this as you have one, but others might find this a useful clue. Not doing this might account for the level oddity with the expander/gate? Complexx doesn't quite sound like my Compex hardware, but it's quick to get a good result, and the added controls are very useful and sadly lacking in the hardware. I don't know why the developers had to rearrange the controls on the panel, makes no sense to me when compared with the original. All that said, I will buy it, it has features that the Boz/Bendeth Mk 2 version I also have lacks and is a useful tool in my toolbox when I don't want the US 1176 sound but something crunchier and more organic...
Yes, it has the classic "Compex" hard-knee sound. In this version I don't have to look at David Bendeth's name, either! More "color" options on this too.
Which one is better in your OPINION the Kiive Xtressor or this compressor? I might add the Xtressor is probably my favourite comp. The 2nd one would be Shadow Hills Mastering Comp Red version (bx) from plugin alliance 👌🏼
I wonder if it will be included with Plugin Alliance's Mega Bundle. A couple of other Kiive plugins have been made available on there. I really like their Xtressor (a Distressor emulation). BTW, I've heard people say the name of this company about five different ways.
It says on their site " It allows compression and expansion simultaneously " . So what is meant by that? Doesn't this in a nutshell almost equal "lots of compression" ? I feel like I hear more and more claims that for me land in the "of semantic value mostly" drawer. To your question , I have so many good compressors by now that a developer has to present something new to the table in order to justify the price. I mean 99 intro is not exactly cheap and I don't hear something that I cant already achieve-duplicate with more than one of my compressors so for now its a pass for me
Hey! Totally understand the confusion there! A big use for the expander in this case is that it allows you to cut back on a lot of undesirables before compressing/limiting! One great use for it is a snare or kick drum where you would benefit from cutting back on the bleed before slamming it hard enough to get the snap you want! :)
@@kiiveaudio In the scenario you describe I would simply use a good gate plugin to cut the bleed before I compress which would essentially result In around the same thing. I am not talking bad about your plugin please don't take it the wrong way. It's just that I have so many of "the best plugins" that I have become a bit spoiled+overcooked. I am not saying that it is a bad plugin. I was simply replying to the question of the OP. Hope you understand. Cheers!

I hope plugins will not release through plugin alliance. Because sound is changed. Plugin alliance likes bright and too vivid sound. But it make me feel like plastic..

Re: pronunciation, I heard it rhymes with "hive" like a beehive. That was from an interview with the guy who founded it. Take that as you will
That same guy told me at the the beginning of their journey it was pronounced as kay-eve. So yeah.

Depends how you dial it in right. It quite easy to increase transietn while also compressing the tail more with this setup.
