    I need to do another batch here too. I sometimes add a garlic clove or two to the jars knowing that I'm using them for hummus.

    Funny. I just bought another bag of chickpeas (I didn't need it, but it was on sale) and I couldn't quite remember the measurements for the pint jars! Thanks for reminding me Toni, your timing couldn't be better. 😀 PS, Your Apple orchard video was beautiful, I wish I was there.

      Donna, well the actual measurements are 1 cup dry beans per quart and 1/2 cup per pint...I like to use less and have more liquid. p.s. I could have stayed all day at the apple orchard too!!

    I've never canned dried beans, however...
    I buy hummus so I'm seeing some home canned chickpeas in my future. 🔮
    I'm betting that you have a video on how to make it and how to make tahini too! You know I'm going to check just as soon as I post this comment. LOL

    I canned some the other day and found them to be a lot softer then the ones in a can. We go through a lot of these beans primarily for a Greek Chick Pea salad that we make weekly. I did them exactly like you did. Also after a couple of days the beans absorbed more of the liquid and it turned cloudy. Could you update us on how you jars are? Thanks love your channel.

      Perhaps my beans were older, they are firm enough, but sometimes the skin falls off!

    • @alteredLori
      @alteredLori 2 года назад

      @@HerHomesteadSkills skins falling off is good especially if you make humus. It's supposed to be less bitter. I have to buy a better brand and see what happens.

    You did a nice job. Did you not do the thing where you get the bubbles out cause there were less beans? Thank you for posting

    • @HerHomesteadSkills
      @HerHomesteadSkills  2 года назад

      There didn't seem to be a need to do so, however in spite of the fact that I was remiss, It is always best practice to de-bubble because if there is extra air it will alter your headspace.

    Funny, I just finished vacuum sealing seven bags of Chick Peas. Its going to be hummus time this winter.

    • @HerHomesteadSkills
      @HerHomesteadSkills  3 года назад +1

      Oregon BassBoss...I had to pick up a new vacuum sealer...I killed mine, I use it every day even for stuff that needs to be re-vacuum sealed, because I have removed some items from the packet. I even use it to re-seal packets of stuff that I opened and don't want to vacuum seal...like bags of chips etc...
      Homemade hummus is awesome...It comes down to if you don't mind puttering around in the kitchen vs the convenience of store bought. enjoy!

    are the beans raw? do I have to cook them when I need to use for recipe?

    • @HerHomesteadSkills
      @HerHomesteadSkills  5 месяцев назад +2

      they were dry, and yes raw...no pressure canning cooks them pretty thoroughly...they come out just like commercially canned chick peas.

    Is it okay to any spices before pressure canning? if so which herbs or spices do you recommend?

    • @HerHomesteadSkills
      @HerHomesteadSkills  2 года назад +1

      yes, it is ok but i much prefer not to add anything (except perhaps salt) during the canning process as that makes the finished product more versatile and useful for a number of different dishes. I could recommend ..perhaps garlic and/or hot pepper flakes!
