In this video, we load the NotSoGrandCherokee up on the Hauler and take it for a test drive.
Had a few issues figuring out the best way to tie down the Jeep and still have some changes to make.

This is a super cool project. I'll be honest, this just popped up on my RUclips today, and I've been following progress on Aging Wheels' bus for 4 years, but it's been 4 years and it's still in pieces. This is a functioning car hauler bus! I love it!!
Thanks! I've got a playlist dedicated to it... and another video on it goes live in the morning as we just got back from a trip in it.
Would've loaded it in reverse and had rocking wheel chucks for it on the rear wheels. Essentially it's kind of like a see-saw, where you drive the wheels unto them (they have rollers on the edges) and when you push the last bit, they snap you put a pin through the base and they become chucks. Very secure and keeps the car in place twice stronger than a set of straps alone.
Loading it backwards would put too much weight on the tail. It's already less than ideal... dont want to make it worse. Hadn't heard of rocking wheel chocks. Will have to look into them as I was planning to build something similar
I gave this a thumbs up only because I have a '70 GTX and I liked your t-shirt
😊😇
Appreciate it!
Chris is a great 👍 friend and can work on anything
Thanks bud!
We hauled a 67 camero drag car around for years with a similar set up.
On my trailer I mounted chains cut to length for the front, pull up hook the chains in place and backup a little then I only have two straps in the back to deal with.
I've thought strongly about doing the same. I was also given 10 or so permanent 2" web winches that I think I'll be using instead of the ratchets... we'll see. Thanks for watching
Nicely build man, can't wait to haul my xj in something like this.
Thanks bud! It's been a good time building it. We've got quite a bit more in store... transmission swap is coming in the near future and prep for spring outings.
As we say in England , it’ll hold the queen Mary 👍🏻
Thanks!
I need to fix a setup like this to haul my Gambler van with. A bunch of us were just talking about how handy a bus would be for doing double duty.
Yup... and with diesel prices so high, bus prices are dropping.
@@NotSoGrandGarage Yeah that's definitely one thing that would suck about it but on the other hand it's not like I'm driving it to work every day lol. Also I suppose I could burn corn oil in it if I really had the determination to fool with all that.
@@CrazyWoody1989 you should watch some of my black diesel videos.
You guys need to learn about a principle in physics called " polar moment of inertia"..
If u guys put that 3000 pound boat anchor on the overlapping tail of the chopped and channeled bus you will learn the hard way what in road racing we call " oversteer".
That means if you go around a corner and touch the brakes the rear end is going to instantly swap ends with the front of the bus.
That's called oversteer.
You created the worst oversteer I can imagine, boys and girls.
Good luck.
And you need to take a step back and realize how much weight we removed from the rear of the bus. We ran the numbers. Its actually lighter in the tail now when loaded that it was after removing the body, seats, and potential passengers that would have been in the same position. We also have a lot of weight in front of the back tires.
It's almost like I went over the plan with an engineer prior to doing any of the work or something... almost like there was a bit of planning involved.
Great job I really enjoy your content subscribed.
Thanks bud!
Looks skookam. I'd chain it too. Loaded big rigs for highway. Those guys are thoughtful. You know tho, your rig.
Most outfits won't chain cars anymore. They came to the realization that (especially on a unibody), you can easily bend the chassis with a binder. Most transports have gone to axle straps and synthetics.
This thing is now cool
Thanks! Appreciate you watching
You should do the axel weights with it loaded
Planning on it although we did remove more weight (including potential passengers) than the Jeep weighs from the tail. But yes it'll be getting scaled here soon when I get the fuel tanks mounted.
With careful consideration, an old bus can do just about anything you need it to do, and provide a safe base! What about a deck on top?
Thought about it but insurance pretty well says nope to those around here. It's getting solar up top here soon though.
Id get something a little bigger than those harborware freight
Not sure what you're talking about? If you're talking about the anchor points... those are Acktek swivel hoist rings... each one can lift the weight of the jeep and still be under the WLL. The main straps are 2" web... 3300lb WLL each x4... breaking strength over 10k each.. The little straps are just keeping the body sway to a minimum.
Where did you get your ramps?
Bestaluminumramps.com Site looks plain but it's legit. Best prices I found and they shipped quick.
