    Grannie did this back in my childhood in 1950s I remember coming in from school as her cottage was very nearby in the village... I would always have Something to eat (always, starving nothing changed there then 🍰😅) and proper dense bread pudding cold would hit the spot till supper.. Thanks again for the memories GEOFF

    My partner asked me to make some bread pudding. I have never eaten it before as I don't like mixed peel. I found your video and thought I am going to have a go at making it, which I did today (minus the mixed peel) and I have to say it is SO SO Nice. Thank you for sharing your recipe

      Hi Thelma. That's great. I am glad you enjoyed it. I sometimes suggest, to those who don't like mixed peel, that they grate some peel into the recipe, just to give the flavour, but without the chance of encountering a tough bite of peel.

    • @gennieseaview3656
      @gennieseaview3656 5 дней назад +1

      Use smooth marmalade in lieu of mixed peel. It will give the bread pud a nice tang, that the peel would give.

      @geoffsbakingblog  Год назад

      HI Cornz38. It is actually very heavy, as you might expect with bread soaked in milk, eggs and butter. It is very good indeed. I like the advocaat idea.

    • @Cornz38
      @Cornz38 Год назад

      SOrry Geoff, when i said light, i meant to say "pale" or light coloured. I think that's what reminded me. It was a pale fruit cake, not a dark xmas kind. I remember the cherries (whole glace), the golden sultanas, the orange peel, the crunchy sugar topping and the moist sponge that had "booze" as she called it. Of course i didn't know what advocaat was and it was only years later my mum told me that was her secret. @@geoffsbakingblog

    It's a lovely recipe. Almost the same as the one I use although I don't use salt. The one variation I use is to soak the bread first before adding the other ingredients. That way you can squeeze the bread in the milk without squashing all your fruit.
