Inter Milan Skip Build Up Play - Inzaghi’s Philosophy

  • This video takes a look at the tactical principles of Simone Inzaghi's Inter Milan. After losing Edin Dzeko and deciding not to have anything more to do with Romelu Lukaku. Inter added Marcus Thuram, and what an impact he has had!
    We are only a few games into the new season but Inter Milan find themselves at the top of the table with some impressive stats. Not everyone is a fan of his brand of football but his counter-attacking team is VERY effective.

    I generally agree (I'm an Inter fan and I see all the matches).
    But what I don't understand it's the idea that the build up phase is poor or directly skipped.
    That's not true.
    Sometimes it happens but it's a choice, not a way to hide some technical lack.
    If you look closely to an entir3 match, you'll see 3 defenders and 3 midfileders all very good with the ball, triyng to manipulate opponents pressing, before triggering the verticality of the move.
    It's not just a long ball team, please don't say that.
    It has maybe the best midfield in Italy

      My point is not that Inter’s build up is bad; my point is that Inzaghi has realized it’s just not necessary, or at least a ponderous one is not necessary.
      I’ve watched all the inter games this season, and a lot of last’s especially CL. I know that Bastoni especially and the other CB get forward rapidly. It’s a fantastic system but you have to admit it’s pragmatic? At the end of the video I say that Inzaghi is one of the best. I really think he is but he’s just different.

      @@MrBlueFootball So, overlapping CB is pragmatic? Inter's (deep) build-up plays are more similar to de zerbi's automation than moyes' brexitball.

      @MrBlueFootball inzaghi is pragmatic when necessary other wise majority of games we have more possession and there are passing sequences that each to goals. We can counter attack and score or we can make 40 passes like man city or real madrid and then score a team goal.

    I just think as an Inter fan since now almost 40 years I have never seen Inter play so an exciting and good football. Inter can do everything, counterattacking which is the best fit for the current players but also managing and keeping the ball and creating football and dangerous moments during the game.
    A very dangerous team with a lot of weapons with a big difference to the previous year. Now Inter has a complete squad, see Frattesi, Carlos Augusto, Sanchez, Asslani which is growing, Klaasen...

      I agree amidst their financial woes they have had to sell their stars (Icardi, Lukaku, Hakimi, Onana, Brozovic....) in order to build a 22man roster of almost equal value across the board. There are less peaks of pure quality. Inzaghi is very good at getting players to express their full value.
      Where Inzaghi lacks is that he is not a motivator, so when a game is big the players don't need convincing, when the game is vs minnows that is where they have lost points in the past.

      At that stage of the league Roma were in a poor run of form 3L 2W the previous 5 and Lazio were at the beginning of the season with Sarri known to have difficulty to get teams to play his football. So at that stage in the head of the players these were not big games.

    I think he does what it takes to win. Inter is comfortable with pressing and overloading the opponent with Bastoni. They had a good 70% possession vs. Cagliari.
    They know when to press, how to build an attack, but most of all when to let the opponent have the ball.
    They usually dictate the game without the ball. They'll make you play on their terms.
    They don't just sit deep and counter. They do all those mini dances throughout the game if you look closer.
    They defend with a 532 but will often mini press in a 442 from their own half.

  • @ivanajvan
    @ivanajvan 8 месяцев назад +21

    Inter do not skip the build up play. It is situational. Onana compared to Somer has better long range passing, but Somer is just a notch downgrade in that department. In short passing they are both good. And Inter utilizes that. Their long passes to the wing back are a thing they are doing it for almost 3 years now, but only if there is a space. But Inter were last year and still are today one of the best team in Europe for building from the back, and the different patterns they have to do it. And they do rotate position, Acerbi some times goes as a left back, sometimes steps up forward in the mid when building from the back. Dumfries sometimes is as a 3 striker, sometimes as a winger. And Lautaro and Đeko last year and this year Thuram, do rotate a lot, and do a lot of similar thing, that's why the are so hard to track.

  • @alexwtf80
    @alexwtf80 6 месяцев назад +4

    I think that the main point is that Inter rarely do offensive pressing. The midfielders waste less stamina running and it shows in the second half. Also the positioning of players is always perfect and they pass very fast because they know where teammates are going to be. I don't think Inter is a defensive team in a strict sense. I think that, even when not counter-attacking, instead of continuos web of passes it prefers few lightning speed touches when the midfield sees an opening.

    Basically he's taken a group of offensive minded (but hard working) players and got them to play a tight defensive system. Only one guy on the team - the central defender acerbi/devrij - is a player that made their name playing defense first. Even the other central D Bastoni and Darmian are attack minded players, while their regista calha made his name as an attacking #10.
    And yeah last year there was one defensive/running weak spot on the team - the striker, whether it was Lukaku or Dzeko. And Thuram is just a massive upgrade in terms of running and covering back that he kind of just completes them and makes them airtight.
