the secret history is AMAZING. the writing is very descriptive and ambiental (if thats a word) the characters are all very morally grey but imo it made me love them/the story so much more. its very intense but such a good story
@@gracemarie02 Right! Comparing "If we were villains" with "The secret history" is like compairing mud with chocolate. The secret history is a masterpiece and Donna Tart is a Pulitzer winning author for a reason.
the way that you talked about You, Again is exactly how i felt while watching When Harry Met Sally. all the characters were so insufferable and i felt like they did not grow at all throughout the 10 years and i have no idea why they ever got together
I use to watch your video to improve my english (I’m french) and I love how you talk like you talk fast enough for my brain but its still understanding 😭 I love your video !!
dont be intimidated by the secret history! to me it gave the same vibes as if we were villans but i felt like the characters had more depth, which made it even more enjoyable to me… Try it! I mean whats the worst that can happen… I loved it!
thats so interesting to me because i read both but definitely liked iwwv more. tsh was so like i dont know felt like there was less going on and was far less intriguing to me than iwwv which had me locked in. always fun to read peoples comparisons on these
I genuinely loved You, Again because them repeatedly meeting under terrible circumstances and them being so insufferable was so different. I usually don't love characters or stories like these but this one was sooo fun.
I put off if we were villains for an entire year and I literally had the same experience you had! I was so into the story and characters and it was so beautiful I couldn’t stop thinking about it for days after I read it! 5 stars
Leaving if we were villains for towards the end scared me! I’m so glad you enjoyed it ❤ it’s definitely one of those books I think about all the time. Also the only book I have read that is similar to this one is the secret history which is also amazing it’s just a long book
You should really look into The Infernal Devices series, I think you are going to love it!! It has this 19th century dark vibe perfect for this season and a triangle romantasy - all the good stuff. Obv not the most intelligent read but soooo entertaining!!!
I also read Nocticadia in October and had a blast, such good mix of plot, science, romance. I devoured in 2 days. It was a 5 star for me. Will definitely read more Keri Lake books.
i was in the same dark academia mood this month and i read if we were villains, liked it a lot and then got into the secret history and girl… you need to read it, i was intimidated too but the audiobook is read by the author and its just too good!! slow burn but so messy and one of those that you wanna see what everyone else thinks about it once you finish it also please please check out the lore olympus graphic novel series!! i really think you’ll love it!!
The way I felt the EXACT same way about "If We Were Vilians" and "Heartstopper Volume 5" as you did. I wasn't too optimistic going into "if we were villains" for the same reasons as you were. I also read it this year (in July) and at first I was confused on who was who and what was going on. But once I got into it, I ATE THIS BOOK UP! Like it was soooooooo GOOD! So Good! I also rated it 4.25/5 and have been looking for something like it ever since. Her writing is just so good! And I also felt the same way about "Heartstopper Volume 5". I just wanted a little more from what the book was giving me.
I would say "in my dreams, i hold a knife" has similar plot to "if we were villains", however, the former leads much more into the thriller aspects than the latter. And also you might strongly dislike the characters, but I found it so entertaining. I also rated "in my dreams, i hold a knife" a 4.25/5.
i'm so so so glad that you finally read if we were villains. i loved iwwv. i feel the same. i would love to understand it on a deeper level with the foreshadowing of the plays etc ❤❤
@isabellalicona4658 what helped me find connection to the characters was Pinterest. I found an illustration of the group and I pasted it in my book. Once I had that I got more invested. I thought it got better for sure.
omg i also felt that way about if we were villains!! i put it off for 2 years and then when i finally read it i was sooo invested and i wanted a book that was just like it and i found in my dreams i hold a knife which def had more romance so im soooo excited to see you read it knowing how much you enjoyed if we were villains!
The first 100 pages of Ninth House are very world building dense. I think the story really gets going after that and i've heard a lot of people say they DNF right when the book is starting to get good. I would highly recommend continuing on because it is an amazing read.
Lovely War is in my top 5 favorite books of all time. I started it as a library book and maybe 50 pages in I knew already it was going to be a favorite and immediately bought a physical copy so I could annotate it. I read it while working at Barnes and Noble and would recommend it all the time.
i finally read firefly lane, didn't know i could cry harder than the nightingale- but i did😀! great alone is next (i know a kristin hannah book HATES to see me coming)
also, i recommend reading in my dreams i hold a knife when you are completely in the mood for it! it honestly reminded me a lot of the tell me lies show (extremely dysfunctional friend group LMAO) the drama was so entertaining
So happy you loved If we were villains , this is THE book that got me into dark academia 😍 . Funny enough atm I’m reading “ an academy for liars “ by Alexis Henderson and I’m obsessed thus far , definitely gives me IFWV vibes ❤
The games that gods play is so good!!! it was a 6 star book for me, I listened to the audiobook and it was so good 😆 it gives Percy Jackson/Hunger Games vibes and I'm OBSESSED!!!!
🩸 Honestly it was one of my first Frieda McFadden and I really liked it, the dual timeline was interesting and I thought I had the end figured out but the plot twists I didn’t see coming I’d say it’s a 4 ⭐️ for me
Loved the video!! 💛I'm currently reading the Belladona series and omg I'm OBSESSED!! It's definitely got those spookier, darkish vibes with romance and lots of mystery, 100% would recommend, also the covers are stunning, just a lil plus hahah
🩸 I liked the boyfriend! I kinda guessed the plot twist, it was a fun read... the starting 10 pages were meh but the rest of the book?! I ate it up! I rated the book 3 stars too
🩸 SPOILERS AHEAD: didn't predict the ending at all. At one point, I thought Slug was present Randy. I really wished Daisy got arrested to put an end to all her madness, but i kinda am not mad with the real ending. I gave it a 4. I highly recommend Ward D also by mcfadden. I think it was as good as Never lie. Lots of love sara❤
The Secret History is actually written in an easy to read style, in my opinion. Its not a difficult read. It's interesting and funny and theres lots of emotions and things going on
If we were villains literally changed my life. I read it in one sitting this summer and stayed up till 4am to finish 😭 still think about it every day and i wish i owned the physical copy so bad
just an fyi for those in the UK. Ps I hate you doesn't come out on Kindle until the start of December and then paperback in January. really sad that I couldn't join in with this one (even though I didn't do the last 😂) but guess it'll have to go on my upcoming tbr list 🧩

I got to book 3 of zodiac but I haven't found interest in reading book 4, they also are SOOO long...I like the series but it's also not something that I am super drawn to continue reading.
Has anyone noticed a lot of people have stopped doing wrap ups? Thank you for still doing them Sara ❤
Wrap ups are my favorite videos!

Yes, they seem to be doing more vlogs and TBRs...

Ok I’m convinced!
I loved in my dreams I hold a knife ❤
the secret history is AMAZING. the writing is very descriptive and ambiental (if thats a word) the characters are all very morally grey but imo it made me love them/the story so much more. its very intense but such a good story

agree on the need for recs that have the same vibe as If we were villains!!!
Leaving if we were villains for towards the end scared me! I’m so glad you enjoyed it ❤ it’s definitely one of those books I think about all the time.

For dark academia vibes my favorites are The Secret History (the audiobook is the way to go lol), Babel (also audiobook), and Truly Devious!
Babel is SO GOOD!!
if its a sara day, its a happy day 😋
You should really look into The Infernal Devices series, I think you are going to love it!! It has this 19th century dark vibe perfect for this season and a triangle romantasy - all the good stuff. Obv not the most intelligent read but soooo entertaining!!!
🩸I read The boyfriend in less than 24 hours, the ending really got me! I did not expect it at all.
Yesss same!
i've read a book with a similar plot so i dont plan on reading this soo can u tell me the ending lol?
I also read Nocticadia in October and had a blast, such good mix of plot, science, romance. I devoured in 2 days. It was a 5 star for me. Will definitely read more Keri Lake books.

You loving If We Were Villains is making me sooooo giddy!! I read it last December and immediately became one of my favorite most memorable stories!
I just read If We Were Villains and loved it! I agree, it took me a second to get the characters down.
I tried reading it and only got to the second act. I think maybe I was just in a slump but does it get better after act 2?
@isabellalicona4658 what helped me find connection to the characters was Pinterest. I found an illustration of the group and I pasted it in my book. Once I had that I got more invested. I thought it got better for sure.

Now I’m really interested in If We Were Villians. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!!
I couldn't get through Ninth House on my own, but I found the audiobook enjoyable!
Lovely War is so 😍 my favorite book of October
The Secret History is actually written in an easy to read style, in my opinion. Its not a difficult read. It's interesting and funny and theres lots of emotions and things going on
I am so happy when you post ❤❤❤❤ love hearing you talk about books 😊😊😊😊
I LOVED if we were villains, but highly diskliked secret history haha
i wish i could’ve read if we were villains in high school cause i was a theatre kid and i would’ve remembered the shakespeare stuff more
If we were villains literally changed my life. I read it in one sitting this summer and stayed up till 4am to finish 😭 still think about it every day and i wish i owned the physical copy so bad

YOU HAVE TO READ THE SECRET HISTORY PLS IT CHANGED ME
the way i went to the bookstore today and i was going to buy pumpkin spice cafe but i’m glad i didn’t😭
Great video Sara
I just read powerless and I gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!
I felt the same way about the pumpkin spice cafe tbh
Some books I read in October that I really liked was Where’s Molly?, Once upon a broken heart and Caraval. All of those were 5 ⭐️
Take this with a biiig grain of salt (because I haven’t read either yet) but I have heard that “In My Dreams I Hold a Knife” is similar to “If We Were Villains.” Both are still on my TBR so I can’t really speak to similarity but the plots sound similar!
Missed the sit down and talk about books videos
this was posted at the perfect time as I was binging old sara videos 🤭🤭
I'm so excited!
I had the same thoughts about The Pumpkin Spice Cafe! Lovely War and If We Were Villains are great ❤️ Also curious to read You Again to see where I land on my rating! And I’m planning to start Ninth House today, haha wish me luck…

I was waiting so eagerly for your new vid and here you uploaded !!!!!
If you like interconnected found family sports romances you NEED to read the playing for keeps series by becka mack! The found family in those books is my absolute favourite
Funnily enough, I also just read If We Were Villains after years of it being on my TBR so you're not the last person to read it haha! Like other people in the comments, I would highly recommend The Secret History. U sud really read Percy Jackson!!!
Lovely War is my fave
I'm a huge dark academia girlie and please don't be intimidated by The Secret History! It's vibey and just so beautifully written. You'll love the quotes. It can be a bit disturbing because all characters are morally grey but if you go into it knowing to anticipate that, you should be fine. Also, just FYI if you ever decide to get back to Ninth House after all, the sequel is more action packed and flows faster. ;)
If you want books like if we were villains I would read The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake, A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik, The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, and Vicious by V.E. Schwab.
i’m not sure if you’ve read phantasma but i think you’d would like it!!
