In US and Britian its not easy to becomes a Army Officer but over here you can become a kachang putih Officer anytime. Whats the percentage of NS officers signing on when ORD?? If not its waste tax payer money.

If you are talking about moving up the rank, it takes a while to be commissioned. Same every where. If you are talking about attending Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst or West Point, it is no different from SAF. Difference is you graduate with a degree and a commission. I guess you know very little about the process of becoming a commissioned officer. No wonder with your attitude, you landed up as a Quartermaster.

Not only US or Britian.. just look at your neighbouring countries (thai, malaysia, indonesia), they undergo rigurous training to become officers..

@@markloy2913 You got my point wrong, I am from the Pioneer NS batch in my time only selected NCO or thoes with higher qualification are selected to attend OCS. Thoes early commission officer who receive their ceremony swords are made by Wilkinson Swordsn England which is a prize procession. Present system Officers are being chuned out every quartely by the hundreds and their swords awarded are made by EMS metals a factory in Yishun cost n$400. Sorry if you feel offended by the way I am a Officer with 2SIR as a HQ Quartermaster in my early days.

@@michaelleong2582Quartermaster I did my basic and Sect Leader in SAFTI and went to 3SIR as an NCO. Got commissioned after 4 month OCS. Awarded a Thai sword and went back to unit as a PC. Sent to British Jungle warfare school in Tutong for one month to attend the Jungle warfare instructor course. Attended SATO in SAFTI. BAck to the point, I don’t think it is the fault of the current officers being weak. It is just that the entire system has progressed compared to ours with a different emphasis. My time was: duty, honour and country. We were groomed to be officers and gentlemen. Now I believe the emphasis is on digital warfare and smart decision making. Being gung-ho is no longer the main trait.

@@markloy2913 Agreed, so Tiger Hon Seng Mak was your RSM? But I still feel the amount of Officer graduating should be limited as i understand this new generation of youngster are not interested in serving as an officer but base on their education achievement some are being send to OCS.. My upmost respect goes to those who sign on and make SAf their carrer.
