    If it is non-coking coal, what about all the sulfur and ashes that could end up in the melted metal or reducing gas.

    • @phuturephunk
      @phuturephunk Год назад +3

      The coal briquetter probably acts as the substitute for what would have been the coking battery part of the operation in a traditional hot metal blast furnace operation.

      @TheWizardGamez Год назад +2

      yes, if you look at the charts, direct reduction has blown up in production in the last decades, primarily due to its SUBSTANCIALLY lower capital needs, input stream, and otherwise. that being said, it cant produce all types of gas like in "traditional"/ conventional iron making where, as seen in the soviet union by FAR, the ability to extract other atmospheric gasses was economical. Russia and other post soviets which had large steel/iron works had produced for example the vast majority of the worlds neon. neon being used in everything from every sign in old Portland, to weapons grade lasers(guess which the soviets were after).

    Isn't this basically the same thing as a blast furnace but with one additional step? This isn't more efficient is it? It's just a little cleaner.

    • @akkedisvoet

      @@penskepc2374 Really? Except this 'blast furnace' (melter-gasifier) does not require expensive coking coal and unlike a true BF, fine Fe-bearing feedstock does not require expensive (non-reducing) agglomeration before it can be used.
      To me Finex looks like a winner. What is your vested interest in being so negative about it?
