I have passat 2010 2.0 tdi and I have same problem.with fan fan doesn't work when I press a/c can this effect my heating hot doesn't work just when I press gas is work . And after drive 100mph I get overheating
Mine turns on as soon as power is connected. Regardless of heat of car. Didn't happen till big fan was replaced a few days ago. It will run till battery is dead or power is disconnected.
Hello, I'm writing on behalf of my friend He thinks he has a similar problem: He was driving his car (Golf VI 2.0 TDI) normally and it stopped working. At the repair shop they changed the alternator, but later on his battery heated very quickly so he needed to disconnect it. He also has the same problem with the fans draining the battery until completely dead. Do you maybe know what could be the problem? As soon as the car starts it shuts off immediately and then the fans start working. I already changed the alternator once and after 7 days the same thing happened.
Hi there.... What was the problem? ..... Normally when that happens its the temperature sensor staying in open circuit or fan relay is busted.... Most of the time its the temp sensor coz relays last much much longer
I have the same issue with my Jetta Mk5 2010 TDI. Except, I don't have any faults. The Fan is constantly running when the car is on. When I shut down vehicle the fan stays on for about 5 minutes. Every time. What is this issue? I replaced the Coolant Temperature Sensor and that did nothing.
This car the fan never stayed on after the car was switched off. That could be what I initially thought was wrong with mine, the control unit that is part of the larger fan. Also some cars have more than one coolant temperature sensor, I’m not sure about this engine though.
@@jxsmzne4075 No. I think it has something to do with the ECU and when the vehicle times out. I had mine tuned at a shop and it all started immediately after this. So I need to take it in and see if it's something in that tune which did this. If not, everyone's saying it could be the fan control module that's located on the bigger fan. Each fan has a motor, but only one of the motors is the FCM. Problem I have is the engine takes longer to warm up and this kills my gas mileage by a good percentage. I'm not sure if this has any effect or if it says it's the timed out or the module, but what I do is I unplug the fan fuse, from underneath the hood. It's cold enough that I've been driving like that for a few months, engine doesn't get too hot. This makes it so neither of the fans work. But this isn't a fix. What I notice is that if I plug the fuse back in, after I've shut the engine off, the fan will kick on for 5 minutes. If I wait 5 minutes and plug the fan fuse in, nothing happens. So I'm not sure what this tells me. Is it the ECU and some programming gone awry from the tune? Or is it just a huge coincidence that the FCM failed at the same exact time I did the tune/delete?
@@IAMASPANNER There are two coolant temp sensors in my vehicle. I replaced both. It did not solve the issue. It did solve a hard start when engine is warm issue though. so that's cool.
@@Fillupamerica is it the large fan that’s spinning or is it the small one? The smaller one is for the air con and the fault I thought this car had is a common fault with the air con pressure switch.
Hi - just to clarify. You say at the beginnig that the larger fan (fan 1) was acting up and later realised that the error code was referring to fan 2 (smaller fan). Was it, in fact, the larger fan that was coming on erratically - i.e. was the smaller fan controller causing the larger fan to act up? There's no video of the fan misbehaving, so I wasn't sure. I have the problem of the larger fan running (even with ignition off). No codes in my case which is not helping. Thanks.
My 2013 Volkswagen Passat Se 2.5 it has the small fan on and the bigger fan is off. It makes the same sound like u show in this video. Any recommendations to replace and fix ?
My 2012 passat started doing this 2 days ago & idk which fan.. but my hubby had my car & dropped it back off to me . And when I went to my car the fan I'm guessing was running.. bout 30 mins later it was still running. idk if it has anything to do w my cigarette lighter (charger port) stopped working the day before, but its very weird. Oh & my gas meter not working properly. like when I fill up now it won't say it til I drive a little.. didn't use to do that. now hubby has to disconnect the battery so it won't die on me. i travel alot on the interstates (twice a week) for bout 5 hours each way.. i just had an oil change & ik i need a tune up. what else can I do or need to do to fix these issues pls?!
The problem will be the same or similar, one of the modules will be faulty or perhaps a temperature sensor telling the car it’s too hot? I hope you get sorted.
I have a problem with my golf 5 gt 2l. Fans come on immediately when i start the car nd goes off when i turn off the engine. I have replaced both sensors but the problem is stil there
Hello, can anyone help me witj my fault. My ac runs fine when its been not moving for a while when i run it and go far distances it stops blowing cold air, thus my second fan is not working can this be the problem?
It sounds like your compressor may be on the way out if this is happening on very hot days? My V70 did the same thing, worked for 20 minutes but then not for the rest of the day.
I have Tiguan 2017, the fan keeps running after the car is switched off, does not do every time. Last night it drained whole battery, had to get jump started by a friend. What can be the solution ?
My mk4 gt tdi 200k miles lov it had it 14years I don't think these mk7 will live this long bring back the 1.9 tdi pd engine best diesel engine ever
My brother swears by his 1.9 TDI Octavia. They’ll never be that reliable again!

hey...I've been dealing with this exact same problem...and yes it only started when replaced this part after picking it up just this Friday
is it fixed? Just got both fans replaced couple days ago and now I sound like jet engine the moment I start the car.
Oh man, I have the same problem when I start the engine. The fence start running. I have a golf Mark five which is 2005 tell me what can I do
If it’s the same as this car then the problem is probably the same.
I changed the fans and bought generic fans and it still does the same thing

See my other videos and check the Gateway module isn’t full of water.
In my 2007 golf/jetta 1.9tdi. The fans isn't running at all even if it's on or off and the temperature gage is steady 90°c
Should I be worried?
The fan won’t run unless the engine gets too warm so unless your car is overheating it’s nothing to worry about.
