Excited to see you refurbish this motor. My dad owned boats all my life, and refurbished all of them… Sales and motor. Luckily I got to help him with them. He rescued an 18 foot day sail from being demolished and bought a 34 foot cabin cruiser for $350. What a great childhood, thanks dad and mom.

Very cool, that sounds fun. Lots of parts go into these engines, Fascinating!
That’s an incredibly friendly deal on that boat he got. 😲
      Lots more videos coming.

when you were showing the gear shifter, you have mentioned that the throttle needed to be, in the forward position, ... but if you cant, use the throttle to change the gear position, can you move the gear shifter by hand? using a screw driver maybe, or not?

Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Unfortunately due to the Throttle being in the neutral detent, if the shifter is manually altered in the outdrive, it can damage shift cable & possibly Throttle.
Keep us posted on your project. 😎👍

first disconnect the shift cable and try it by hand..should slide in and out with ease..if not forse the drive off..shift paw might bend..(brass) lot of times bend it back or replace it...simple to do

If you take final drive out....if you set boat in water, will water get in engine with the drive out.. we have a boat on the lift and drive is out, but we need to pull the boat to a boat ramp to get boat out of water

Thanks for watching, if thats the mission at hand…we highly encourage you to seal off the entire rear portion of boat including bellows, exhaust, shift cable, and yoke shaft/gimbal bearing hole. Also seal engine coupler opening inside boat at lower portion of engine.
You want no water back-flowing into boat and damaging engine. Keep us posted. 😎👍

@DIYwithMichaelBorders its going super well. Ive watched a ton of your videos. I bought all the same tools and have my first leg apart now. It went well. Retaining nut came out with a couple ugga duggas from the Milwaukee gun. The GLM puller worked mint to slide carrier out. Thanks for all your videos. I learned most of what I know about these legs from them and am confidently working on them now!
