@@briguy677 Climate change is a naturally occurring phenomenon that is happening, but not because of us. Temperatures have been fluctuating up and down for thousands of years. @@snicketysnickerdoodle8484 Don't consumers stop buying (and combusting) their prohibitively expensive products at some point, instead choosing the cheaper alternatives from their sustainable competitors?
lower and middle class families get more back than they pay in. Average family of 4 pays about $400 bucks a year and gets $1200 bucks back 4 times a year. It is done as a determent to pollute not a penalty on poluters.
It’s strange this cbc reporter know how much the carbon tax reduces carbon emissions, the other day the environment minister said they don’t track how much emissions go down by the carbon tax
Yes I found that a rich statement as well. They suddenly started spewing “look it’s working” bs just to try to justify. I believe the bs level is on the same curve.

Imagine that... this host alone would pay off the national debt in no time.
Get over that ridiculous nonsense! They're reasonably on the up and up and ask hard questions when it's called for. If anything, people like Scott Moe and Danielle Smith are spewing lies. I was listening to him today and he left out relevant information. Saskatchewan isn't doing a good job of bringing their emissions down at all. They only ESTIMATE the emissions from their oil production and an actually measurement of those emissions last year, found that they are actually 30 to 40% HIGHER than Saskatchewan is saying.
this show exemplifies the importance of the CBC. it's an interview. what i am watching is a premier repeatedly spread disinformation by referring to the carbon tax as INFLATIONARY which has been clearly debunked.
Measure their noses for lies and tax accordingly.
Poor conservative babies so scared of facts.

The federal government has no right to tax home heating.
Home heating is a necessity for survival that should not be punished by a carbon tax.
how is it that they can charge a GST upon the Carbon Tax?
It’s very hard for CBC to understand that there are politicians out there that still listen to their electorate. These public servants work for the people and not for Justin Trudeau.
LOL like who???
the electorate is very silent! last time electorate made some noise was palestine protests and before that trucker protests.
exactly, well said and all premiers should do the same. trudeau was not elected king or god!
Conservative politicians aren't listening to the whole electorate - not the people who don't vote for them, and not to the people who want climate action and who support a proven market solution like carbon pricing. The largest ever study on carbon pricing proves that it works at lowering fossil fuel emissions growth rates.
@@garyhaggquist740liberals need to understand that we live in a democracy. There are MORE people against carbon tax - therefore, Premieres are compelled to push back against the carbon tax. I agree that carbon tax has merits but there are other ways to address climate change without bankrupting the working class. I’d rather see Canada supply natural gas to the rest of the world and put those coal burning countries out of business.
Those politicians wor for the oil companies and spin oil company propaganda as 'for the people'.
THe reality is that companies are just passing the extra expenses/tax to consumers. ITs always the ordinary people that suffers. We definitely carry the burden financially.
Then make regulations stricter and give real teeth to enforcement to ensure they don’t pass on these charges versus allowing their profits to run rampant!
The next thing that happens is the consumers stop buying products from those unsustainable companies that have become too expensive to compete with the sustainable alternatives. And in so doing, we reduce our emissions and transition our economy.
Rich stay rich .. middle stay middle or get poor. And poor live off the middle class
Moe could have proposed more direct supports than this rebate for all of those communities. The poor. The disabled. First Nations. Refugees. etc. He could have proposed we get the money from the upper class alone. Or from producers directly. But he didn't. Instead he cites dubious and likely greenwashed industry marketing campaigns that have had only disappointing results, even after all of these years and subsidies. Our emissions continue to increase. We keep producing more fossil fuels and continue to use unsustainable practices because of this blind ideology, even when so many alternatives are available.

Bring down emissions by giving the world cleaner energy. Replace global coal with our LNG and bring down more emissions than the carbon tax ever could. Plus we get the credit for it instead of being demonized and restricted from doing it.
Greece, germany and few others have approched trudeau to sell them LNG to get off of russias supply. Trudeau refused all of them.
Trudeau appears to be insanely out of touch with the financial situation of the average Canadian. I have cut back on everything I can. I found lower condo insurance, dropped my pet insurance, dropped my fitness membership, dropped cable tv, dropped Netflix and now have only internet. And this is not enough to cover increases in strata fees, mortgage interest, property taxes, condo insurance, utilities and food. Despite being in a low income bracket, it is not low enough for me to qualify for the dental program. How much freaking more do we have to pay in taxes to satisfy Trudeau? Will I now have to give up a meal everyday to pay his damn carbon tax? I am not surprised that so many LOATHE him!!!
Conservatives giving tax breaks to the rich and to corporations isn't going to improve the lives of any lower-middle class Canadians.
And much of the Canadian population seems entirely out of touch with their own pocketbooks with what actually is affecting their cost of living. I definitely sympathize with your situation but especially at likely your situation you will be getting a far greater return than you pay. You’ll have a net loss if they repeal it!
Maybe it's your age that is keeping you from qualifying for dental at this point. Are you over 70? And you're getting your carbon tax rebate so you're being silly about that.
You need to make more money
Every nation on earth is dealing with the economic fallout from a pandemic, war in Europe, and a climate crisis. You think Conservatives, the party that has always served the interests of elites - would have avoided what every nation is confronting? And that Conservatives will suddenly stand with working Canadians who are struggling - when Conservatives never have? We would be in arguably worse shape if Conservatives had been in power the last 8-9 years.
The last Conservative gov, in which Poilievre was a cabinet minister - had the worst economic & jobs creation performance of any Can gov since WW2. They inherited a $12+ billion surplus and turned it into a deficit in less than 2 years (before the recession hit.) Poilievre has voted 3X against building affordable housing - voted 2X against raising minimum wages - and voted against dental care for kids from low income families - when he's had taxpayer funded dental care for 20 years. Who's being fooled by Poilievre?

Cut the carbon bs and send Trudeau packing.
What dumb questions. Sask, Manitoba and Alberta are the heaviest places for agriculture, of course they’ll naturally have higher emissions. Unless you’d rather have less food?
I'd rather have less fertilizers produced via Haber-Bosch. Nobody has to starve. Real alternatives exist.

Why, yes: they would.

Take away this reporter's lucrative salary and maybe he would change his tune.
Simply make him live in a small Saskatchewan town for a year or two (most of these media productions are in Ontario). On minimum wage, of course. I have thankfully joined the middle class, but I still struggle, I cannot afford to travel, for instance.
How much of this carbon tax is being directed to Ukraine? Last I checked war isnt carbon neutral so Canada shouldnt even be involved if the carbon tax is meant to protect the environment.
Newfoundland to Scotland (in Europe) is 1600 KM. Russia to Canada across the melting Arctic Circle is not really much more, maybe even less. I won't argue politics or military strategy with you, you figure it out.
Trudeau has gone bonkers ! Scott Moe on the other hand has a lot of common sense, he's the one 'beacon' of intelligence together with Alberta's Premier.
Suppose the government could raise the carbon tax to an unlimited level today without any blow back from the electorate. At what price would the government be able to stop the wild fires in Canada? In other words, how does taxing carbon in Canada stop wild fires from happening if other countries don't change their ways? Canada can do all it wants to fight climate change but unless the rest of the world follows suit it will never matter what we do at home.
But this is the weird thing. By their logic, the government seems to think the entire Earth is Canada. As if there is no other carbon emissions outside of Canada, and because of that, the Canadian government can control the weather and climate with taxes. Essentially, these political leaders seem to think they are God and Canada is the universe.
They pay eco communists to light them.
Once government gets a so called emergency and sink there teeth in with taxes, it loses all credibility. Emergencies are revenue gold mine for governments.
And we can't sell this plan to other countries if the sales pitch is "do this and you won't win the next election unless you call it during a pandemic"
Canada should wait for the rest of the world to have clean water and air before we do anything? Absurdist. We are a country that can afford to do something about it. You are going to be waiting a long time for Haiti to pull their weight, for instance.
None of those record breaking issues will ever be fixed by taxing 1% of the world.

Tell the truth. You don’t need a carbon target because carbon is not a problem. Call bs already.
and be a ..denier??? that would cost them money.
For 800,000 years, the world's climate has been relatively steady and supported life. During that time, atmospheric carbon content operated between two extremes of low to high to low to high again. Always within the trend lines. But now, the carbon level is twice what it was at it's highest point in that 800,000 years and it shows no sign of slowing and returning to the trend line.
The carbon acts like a blanket around the earth, and the thicker that blanket becomes, the less heat from the sun and our activities can escape and the planet warms and warms and warms. The ice at the poles is melting and it will cease to act as air conditioners for the planet, ocean currents that move warm and cool water around the globe will slow and potentially stop which will make equatorial areas become too hot to grow food........ Carbon is a problem. You just have never bothered to learn about it. So in the interest of educating you a little, here's a website link that has a couple of graphs that show the trend lines and CO2 levels of the past 800,000 years. royalsociety.org/news-resources/projects/climate-change-evidence-causes/question-7/#:~:text=Measurements%20of%20air%20in%20ice,particularly%20remarkable%20%5Bfigure%203%5D.

What can Canada realistically lower our global emissions by ?
If we emit 1.5% what can we drop that by 0.2% 0.3% ?
When mass export of LNG to get China, India and others off their dirtier energy sources can reduce global emissions by 20% or more easily and quickly
If global emissions was the goal then the Liberals would be championing Energy East and building LNG plants on the West and East coasts and exporting LNG to the world !
This is not about lowering global emissions !
@brian6697 But LNG doesn't lower emissions. It is approximately equivalent to coal when accounting for the full lifetime emissions of its production, transportation and infrastructure.
At best, LNG is an expensive sidegrade from coal.
At worst, we will find it to be worse than coal because almost of the warming of CH4 is bundled into the first two decades or so after its release into the atmosphere, unlike CO2 which gives us well over a century before it has trapped all of its heat. As we're approaching the verge of +1.5C and the self sustaining feedback loops beyond, increases in CH4ppb could well be what push us over the edge.
That, and LNG is faaar from pure methane.
@@Method9 LNG is cleaner with lower emissions than coal, It is what we have right now and in abundance and what we can use to lower emissions right now to a large degree until better technology can be brought online like mass nuclear energy

The Bank of Canada said the economy is sluggish. It also said there not enough jobs being created and so there is less revenue for the government. There is too little investment to create good paying jobs. So the carbon tax simply gives the government more income but it is also slowing the economy down too.

North of the border we have to heat our houses during the winter. Quality of life is not a significant factor with Scott Moe's Saskatchewan Party. No public transport between cities for the elderly. No third place for the disenfranchised. More food banks. People are desperate and turn to crime... the cycle continues.
I Love 💕 the "take back the power of the people" representative from Premiere Moe.. so much respect to Saskatchewan and Premiere Moe..NO respect to pm jt 😮
It's like the budget. It will balance itself. Lol
I hope premier ford does same in ontario
This commentator keeps saying that Moe is creating an argument. Moe is merely making a statement and he is upholding his code of ethics because the carbon tax is inhumane.
How????? Tell me how taxing reduces emissions?
Let Canadians vote whether they want the carbon tax or not. What do you think the outcome would be?
I'm pretty sure "Do you want a plan or do you want results." was what the CEO in Ready Player One said just before his empire came crumbling down.
How is it working? How do they measure that 9% reduction?
They have a fringe majority of researchers with acceptable views who are not misogynists or Nazis that manufacture the science they want to not deny, all using renewable energy in 100% carbon neutral laboratories.
Yeah it's the extra 14 cents a liter, not the skyrocketing cost of rent/housing that's taken place over the past couple of decades. Real brainiacs in our government.
Why is the government pricing people with the carbon tax and focusing more on industries? Or should they find other green or sustainable energy sources? How many countries in the G7 are imposing a carbon tax? I really don't understand how making life even harder to afford will contribute directly to carbon reduction efforts.
OK, I've been watching for some time and I am impressed with the anchors. They are very intelligent and professional.
Why more tax? Canada 🇨🇦 why everything tax ? Why tax too much ?
Exactly
How about exporting LNG to help other countries reduce wordwide emissions ?
Good for you premier Moe!
Someone want to pull up that video of JT saying he's not good at math, even with small numbers?
But his Foundation does not seem to be losing money ...
As a Nova Scotian I stand with Saskachewan
As another Nova Scotian I call for jail time for Saskatchewan politicians over this!
SK is contributing a big chunk of the nearly $3B in equalization that NS receives annually. So.. I think you've picked the right side.
I guess the real question is if the Federal Government passed a law that's aim is really only to bankrupt the middle class, do you as a provincial leader follow it blindly or step up to represent your province as you were elected to. The carbon tax in a country that makes up basically 1% of the worlds global emissions is not realistic in lowering global emission when you have to basically wipe out a entire generation of middle class citizens to accomplish it.
the fact that Trudumb says it's basic math when he is the clown who says A. budgets balance themselves and B, says he doesnt think about monetary policy should be all anyone needs to understand, the 'BASIC MATH' is Trudumb and the Liberal/NDP coalition is bankrupting Canadians
Exactly
Pricing an externality and keeping liability with those involved in the transaction. Its is all about freedom to choose and you are personally responsible for those associated costs. The Carbon tax should be a Conservative stance.
harper promoted it.
Get rid of Trudeau and the CBC.
