Half Dome Cave - How To Enter (2014)

Did you know about the cave on Half Dome in Yosemite? Not everyone that gets their picture taken on 'the Visor' even knows that it exists right beneath them. I put this short, eight-step video together for those that are brave enough to have a look. The cave is a sacred site, that being the reason for my text to 'pay respects' in this video. Bob Madjic's book 'Shattered Air: A True Account of Catastrophe and Courage on Yosemite's Half Dome' chronicles the tragic story all too well.
The entire Half Dome hike is hazardous and extremely strenuous. Missteps are very dangerous in many places along the route, be extra careful. The cave entrance is very close to the edge, and there is no turning back if you go over. Don't attempt cave entry unless you are sure-footed and extra cautious. I strongly recommend studying Rick Deutsch's excellent book 'One Best Hike: Yosemite's Half Dome' before you take the hike. People have been killed in that cave by lightening

The date of people being killed in this cave by lightning is July 29, 1985. The main lesson is do not go up Half Dome when thunderstorms are forecasted. Half Dome is basically a tall mountain and gets struck by lightning during thunderstorms.

Yes, 5 young men went up during the thunderstorm despite warning signs and hikers telling them to turn back. 2 died, 2 were very seriously injured. Lightning is no joke. It loves half dome during those storms.
