@@siobhanwalsh7050 dessie was more consistent than burroughill lad, but the lads Hennessy under 12 stone, against some top class opposition, puts his rating above dessie for me. Shame they couldn't keep him sound.
Silver buck gave Burrough hill lad lumps of weight and an easy beating at Haydock. Some horses are not as highly rated as they should be and we all know that the handicapper gets things wrong frequently.
@@jabhookjabcross4231 your right yes..... the lad later gave weight and a 15 length beating to that horse at sandown over 3/1/2 miles though. But your right about ratings, Silver buck, nobody mentions him. A great horse. Burroughill lad was on the up, at haydock, silver buck at the time was a established top chaser, so 2 1/2 length after bad blunders was a good effort.
Great horse . Undermentioned in the pantheon of past winners.
Well said Thanks Mrsilverbuck
Fabulous, the way BHL gathers himself and pumps on, underneath. Fabulous.
I was working for Pitman at the time..i took part in the horses final gallop before race, Malcolm Bastard was other rider.
BHL seemed unbeatable from Autumn 1983 unitl his injury in spring 1985 just before another GC tilt
What wonderful old names….
What a loaded field this was. Great memories.
This was best horse since Arkle.
And still is.
Yep, todays GC runners couldn't live with this collection of horses.
THANK YOU, so very much. Super upload. Racing History. :)
Great ride by Phil ...horse didnt jump well.
Would have equalled Arkle's 3 CGCs if it was not for injuries, brilliant chaser won the Hennessey under 12 stone.
Not in arkles league by 2stone....probably best since Arkle though,. plagued
by injuries
@@beverleymorris167 Desert Orchid best since Arkle IMHO.

Maybe the best gold cup field ever?
You wouldn't be far wrong there Philip.
it was a great era of racing wish we had it today
73-76
Garrison Savana's GC was a miles better field, Go look
Just reading Jenny pitmans auto biography. Fab to watch the races she talks about
My Lad's (Aurora Lad) uncle Burrough Hill Lad also bred by Stan
Great race
Do you have any footage of the enclosure at all
How much ground did brown chamberlain lose by running across the course. Enough to win or make it very close indeed
Hugely disliked jenny pitman
Dislike her or not, she was a bloody great trainer!
