"La Villageoise" (The Village Girl) is a delightful piece by Jean-Philippe Rameau, a prominent French Baroque composer. Technically, it's a rondeau, which is a musical form featuring a principal theme that recurs between contrasting sections. This piece is part of Rameau's collection of keyboard pieces titled "Pieces de clavecin," which was published in 1724.
From a technical standpoint, "La Villageoise" is characterized by its light and dance-like quality, reflecting the pastoral and somewhat playful nature implied by its title. It's written in a major key, which contributes to its bright and cheerful mood. The structure of the piece, typical of a rondeau, involves a recurring main theme (A) that alternates with varied sections (B, C, etc.), creating a pattern such as A-B-A-C-A. This gives the piece a sense of unity and variety at the same time.
In terms of keyboard technique, Rameau's compositions often require a good deal of finger dexterity. "La Villageoise," while not as technically demanding as some of his other works, features quick ornamentations, trills, and mordents that enhance its lively character. The piece also showcases Rameau’s skill in creating charming melodies that are both expressive and intricate. The use of dynamics and articulation in the piece helps to emphasize the dance-like rhythms and the pastoral mood, which would have been popular in the courtly settings of the Baroque era.
Overall, "La Villageoise" is an excellent example of Rameau's ability to compose music that is technically engaging and rich in character, making it a favorite among both performers and audiences who appreciate Baroque keyboard music.

Yes, but one would rather say that Scarlatti's sounds like Rameau's because La Villageoise (1724) was published 18 years prior to K87 (1742).
