Technically, the answer to the blindfolded bowl of red and green apples on the table is incorrect. If he drew three apples, he could conceivably pick three of the same color apple. Since there were only seven red apples, you would need to pick eight apples to be 100% certain you have two of the same color, not three.

How would that work out if I were to pick 7 red and 1 green? There are many combinations to where this can’t work out.

The question is, how many apples would you have to pick to guarantee that you had two of the same color. While the chance that someone would ever actually pick seven red apples in a row is only 0.78125%, it COULD happen. Therefore, you'd have to pick eight. Remember, you're blindfolded and don't know what you've picked. It's a math/probability problem so there IS a right answer.

The only way I would solve this is by calculating every possible combination and giving the chance, but there is no way of telling how many he would need to draw.
