Nope. Thing can't read Rekordbox databases, so it's not suitable for installation. It's clearly meant for DJs who strictly do high-end events, especially formal ones.

@Terry Jackson It's not a controller, it's an all-in-one. But it is not appropriate as install gear.

@@Reticuli not going to be surprised if pioneer will eventually move towards the new database. Hard to imagine they put in the work into creating a brand new database design just for the opus. Ideally pioneer would add a db copy & conversion function directly to the device (still would be an issue if you don't have enough on-hand storage for that). Figure I'll probably pick one of these up and rock both databases on my drives for all occasions since rekordbox makes that easy to manage.

I like the design and leap forward that was taken to stand out from the norm. However, as CT has said many times, it's impossible to have the perfect gear for everyone! My opinion is the MagVel fader should be on this unit at this price point. Also, not being compatible for streaming services at the time of launch is an issue for me. My last concern is about the Serato implementation set for Summer 2023. It doesn't really have a "pad mode" to midi map stems, or does it? Are the Hot Cue tabs multi-functional? Outside of those things, I think this unit is a breath of fresh air and concept! Great review, CT!

Having a CDJ 3000 at home, I like the fact that Pioneer implemented the same 8 cues/loops buttons below the screens. I also have a SC6000M and I do like the 8 buttons in a single row, that mix cues and loops, instead of changing the row, like on the Denon (and controllers in general). I use my Rane One for weddings and private events, as well as my S11, turntables and Phase. Let see this summer, when they implement Serato into this Opus Quad…

I agree with you Terry about the jogs. They are to plain.... it's a sweet rig but that kinda throws me off. I'm like you a old school DJ and I've spent alot of money thru the years on the best of the best and now I'm about practical use .. and is the tool gonna make me better? I am still using my DDJSZ2 and I can get whatever I want when I upgrade. I wish they would quit teasing us and give us the best of the best which would be this device, with the platters from the Rev7, that I also could plug my Serato into and utilize all of my library I've been building for years and all of the effects that are software based. I was going to order this but I'm holding off to see what else is coming out. Love your reviews bro!

I did feel the exact same way about the jogwheel when I watched all these reviews. I felt they should’ve allowed an image and I also felt there should’ve been an option to fill the same area with the color of the outer ring so there was a nice big ring of color.

Great review CT. I’ve seen most of the videos (who hasn’t), but your’s, for me, has been the most real world review. I agree with all what you have said. As a mobile DJ it’s a bit too big (for such an expensive and techy unit), to lug around regularly . Between my XDJ XZ, Prime 4 and mixstream pro (not to mention all the other equipment I have), there is no corner left in my house, much less justification, to get this. However, I found myself looking at the 0% finance option at a local store and thought ‘I could do this (and the missus wouldn’t notice!’😳). Keep up the great work.

great review. haha - yes, it's like with cars. i'd say it's the tesla of the pioneer equipment (there are lovers and haters of reduced interior design and manual buttons into software features).
I personally love the reduced and clean design (except the beige sides). Also wondering, why the pioneer branding is almost missing, at least not very present?!
Since I am using memory cues a lot - I am curious how jumping around memory cues with the need of holding the "shift" button feels? Do you think, it messes with the muscle memory when switching between standard pioneer club gear and the opus quad?

Great review however I think you might be mistaken in your comment in the end about Denon's library management. The Prime 4 can take an exported Serato USB easily. Infact you couldve put a recordbox USB (your old USB) and it would've read it (and should have the cue points), unlike the Opus made by Pioneer. (Note the new database might not be supported yet on Denon but the old ones were)

I'm not a big fan of the design but i think its good because it differentiates it from the XDJ/DDJ/FLEX lines.
Unique design, new rekordbox library format, lack of first party case, lack of Pro Link support, it's clear that Pioneer is testing the waters with this and wants it to be its own thing rather than a successor to any existing products.

  • @SLIC3R2

This AIO unit is cool but i really hope the lack of tactile buttons doesn’t become a trend any time too soon. Coming from a controllerist background, the way i mix is pretty fast and that is 100% due to the fact that i have a physical and separate control for every single thing i need, nothing layered. This is similar to you, CT when you stated previously how you like to have your serato effects on separate buttons above the jogwheels opposed to Pioneer DJ’s style of beat FX strip, its the ballpark where the less i have to check and prep, the faster and smoother i can be. I love a good touch screen but when you start to sweat and get put in humid and dirty environments, a touch screen can become a hassle compared to just buttons or a knob. Thats how i feel though maybe the game will change and we have to adapt one day idk

I got the DDJ-1000 a month ago and after seeing this I'm glad I did, for the reason you mentioned. With a dedicated laptop for Rekordbox DJ, the DDJ-1000 does more than any standalone for less and is more compact. Unless you need high quality line input or a standalone the DDJ-1000 is totally solid and I'm not really sure what they'd change on an MK2 except maybe the beat loop knob, but CDJs don't have that either.

I would personally want something more protective than a bag, which will add to the weight. That said, I don't see flight case companies making a case that conform to the shape of this unit. If anything, they will supply foam inserts for it to fit snug. If so, as Mojaxx stated, what would be the point of having the design in a rectangle-shaped case?

I like it. It's the Pioneer Prime Four with a more upscale look. It would be perfect for an upscale wedding or event but not the clubs. If memory serves, I have never seen a standalone or a controller set up at the club/ event (unless the DJ bought it themselves), it's always the cdjs, which I prefer. Two cdj 3k the pioneer v10 and a DJS 1000. Does all I need.
Amazing how much gear is coming out atm, guess the drought is over.

You can get the XDJ XZ over here in Germany for 2500,- Euros. If it's connected to Serato, you do have access to four decks, playing with a laptop connected, you also have access to all your Streaming Services like Tidal or Beetport etc. Is the extra 800,- Euros on top for the Opus Quad really worth that extra investment, I think not (RRP Germany 3299,- Euros). The Opus is even bigger than the XDJ XZ.

I think this is targeting the Pro'sumer' market, and boutique bars etc. Prime 4 is $2000 cheaper in my country (Canada) ($2499 vs $4599) while offering a few things that this thing doesn't do (at least at launch). I mean....I'm sure people will buy it still, just confused as to what they are going for here?

Kool piece of gear if you have the money laying around but I think I’ll stick to my XZ. I bang the hell out of my hot cue pads and that alone is a deal breaker for me. Also my XZ tends to glitch every now and then so imagine this system with all its software, that would be a nightmare at a venue. This is perfect for RUclips djs.
