It really is a testament to Rays boxing skill that he can speak and articulate words as well as he does. Considering his career and age, it's actually amazing. Awesome video Jay👍
Ray Leonard is one of the most talented and exciting prize fighters of all time. His flurries during many of his bouts against top contenders are legendary. He frustrated Roberto Duran so much that Duran quit the fight saying no mas (no more), and Ray's comeback fight and defeat of then champ Marvin Hagler, sent Hagler into an early retirement. Ray fought the best fighters in his division (some of the best fighters who have ever lived) and never failed to amaze with his lightening fast speed or ring generalship. He never cowered from a fight and always gave 110% in the ring. It was a privilege to watch him box! What an amazing fighter and class act! 😊
Marvin Hagler should have been awarded that fight. Even Boxing Judge Jo Jo Guerra admitted afterwards he made a huge mistake awarding Sugar Ray 2 rounds and the fight on his scorecard. The other scoring judges had the fight seven rounds to five each way for a tie. It was Jo Jo Guerra's scorecard that decided the winner. He admitted to making the mistake.
Hagler def won the fight, watch it again without sound, and he ducked hagler for awhile retiring early only to come out of retirement when he saw hagler “slowing down” then wouldn’t fight him unless they went 12 rounds instead of I think 13 or 15 (I’ll have to go back to get the specifics) and also wouldn’t fight him unless he had a large ring to dance around in (smart, cause hagler was a seek and destroy guy) nonetheless one of the greatest fighters alive
Wow both gentlemen have aged beautifully like fine wines. Both national treasures, met Jay during Top Gear recording, funny and witty and such a joy to speak with. Love to meet Sugar Ray too, soon one day.
Clay/Ali was a draft-dodger, and most of us couldn't afford lawyers and didn't have mansions to sit in, so we went into the Army. Ali lost 5 title bouts and really lost several more where the judges just handed the decision to him. He was good, but Marciano (really a light heavy) was the best.
Good Lord, Sugar Ray Leonard looks fantastic! Haven't heard about him in years, I was rather young when he was in the news, but I remember he was rather likeable. Man, my memory is spot on! What a gent! He gave vehicles to all his siblings, but SENSIBLE transportation to get them to where they were going. Have them a leg up, but didn't give them something to let them convey "I've arrived". Wow, this gets better when he DOES arrive and gets that gorgeous Cornche. So well deserved!!!! Probably "Nouveau Riche" in the 1970s, but with the passage of time, so tasteful and elegant. God bless him!!! Today, the world needs more people in positions of esteem like this to set an example!
Got to meet ray leonard while working at a resort in ojai california, really humble respectful man. Got to be around a lot of high profile folks while working their , good times
Sugar Ray is one of the few boxers that by sheer luck or wisdom have managed to not end up dirt poor- and I'm always happy to hear stories like this. People would get excited to see him fight, it was like a super bowl event.
Sugar Ray doesn’t get enough credit for what he did in the ring. So smart, but more than anything he had the heart of a lion! It’s all about the heart. Yes there is great athletes with amazing skills, but you can’t teach heart! A true warrior! 😊🙏👍🏻👍🏻
Sugar Ray Leonard is a class act and this is so amazing hearing his heartfelt stories. I hope that this video gets a million views because it deserves them.
Back in the day when Sugar Ray Leonard lived in Potomac, Maryland, we would see him driving his Ferrari Testarossa around the village.A genuine down to earth nice guy who always took the time with his fans when shopping locally.
I understand Jays feeling! I am a simple guy from Latin America but once a made it to Wa. D.C. and I visited the Potomac, so I lie at the riverbank and took a picture with an old kodak of myself holding a Coke in one hand and my dad's pipe in my mouth, both favorites for my gone father, I did it on his memory!
Sugar Ray Leonard is on of my heroes and I'm old enough to be your son Jay, I watched him as a kid in the Eighties. He looked to handsome, and was too polite and well spoken to seem like a fighter.... but he was a REAL tough guy, and had all the skills to boot. Amazing fighter !
In the late 90's, a friend was involved with the catering at the Champs house. I was told, at the end of the evening, each member of the catering crew got an autographed / signed picture, instead of the customary tip.
Sugar ray is legend but loved in hometown of Maryland my dad would train with him during late 70s early 80s...golden glove matches I wonder if he remembers those days
LOVE THIS! Sugar Ray is the SWEETEST guy but I still wish he could greet every one of my daughter's "boyfriends" at the door. I mean, she's 24 now, living on her own & has only only had 3 boyfriends but 2 of them I wouldn't mind seeing knocked out cold :)
I saw Sugar Ray as a kid on Mother's Day in Maryland, he was at a Frisch's Big Boy, which is like a "Denny's" restaurant. he and a friend were parked outside waiting for his family in the parking lot and he was in a convertible Mercedes. It was around 82'-83. He was my favorite fighter, but I was too scared to say hi, so I told my little sister and cousin to go say hello to him. I watched and he was super cool and gracious. Still the example of class. Thanks Jay and blessings to the Leonard family.
Most people say some one was such a class act, But when it comes to Sugar, it isn't an act, such a humble and honest character with so much greatness inside waiting for someone to make him show it, since he won't shine without someone asking for him to let it show. In Plain English, he doesn't walk around strutting, blinding you with his vanity
I got a kick out of the Grey Poupon..... My late uncle used to keep a case of it in his cars... he owned several RR and he loved those commercials so much that when he would pull up to a stop light he would ask the iconic question.... and then hand them a new jar 😂😂😂
I still like mine better, was along with my dad when he traded the 58 Biscayne in for a used 67 Delta 88. On the way home a few hrs. later the Biscayne was already sold to a new owner in 1971.
Jay and Sugar Ray You guys are SUNSHINE 🌅 And you rhyme like Paul&Michael +'Ebony and ivory go together in perfect harmony' FABULOUS TEAM FABULOUS TO WATCH!
Wasn't a fan of Sugar Ray back in the day, just didn't like his style of boxing, and thought he got some favorable decisions he didn't deserve. But now seeing how punchy so many other legends are, seeing how great he looks- God bless him.
A 1000 thumbs up for this one. Like a good wine that gets better with age. The best saying. I think I once had a Lamborghini. Best greetings from Germany
Such a classy guy. There aren’t many fighters with the style and grace of Sugar Ray today.
It really is a testament to Rays boxing skill that he can speak and articulate words as well as he does. Considering his career and age, it's actually amazing. Awesome video Jay👍
He looks great huge biceps.
He retired at the right time, still sharp.
🤔🤔🤔 slightly shady
Funny because I'm watching interviews of his to see if he has any signs of boxers brain.sugar ray holds up
Ray Leonard. True humility, class and integrity... great man. Respect Sir!
Such a caring, personal, humble, articulate man, love Sugar Ray
Sugar Ray is such a class act and nice guy! Young people could learn a lot emulating Sugar Ray. Thanks Jay for bringing us this episode.
It's great to see a boxing legend who is still sharp/articulate and with no sign of CTE.
Imagine that’s your grandpa - love watching grown men show emotions about their families
I was 10 in 76, when I first watched Sugar Ray at the Summer Olympics in Montreal. He was great to watch. He had such style!
Ray Leonard a legend and always a class act!💯👊🙏

@@dianashepherd3241 c'mon ma'm dudes joking
Everyone says Ali was the greatest, and he was, but SRL comes a very close second. Brilliant boxer, lovely man. Bless those 6 grandkids.👍🇬🇧
You have to rate them based on weight class.
Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest. Ali said he was the greatest.

All of our dads had heroes, and I hope all your dads are your heroes. Mine was. Great show, Jay.
Dreams do sometimes come true. When a guy like Jay says it, after all he's achieved, you know it must be special.
Sugar Ray is one of the few boxers that by sheer luck or wisdom have managed to not end up dirt poor- and I'm always happy to hear stories like this. People would get excited to see him fight, it was like a super bowl event.
I like when Jay said his dad was a fighter. Cause that made him go into show business with that Chin.
🤣🤣🤣
Jay "Crimson Chin" Leno
Such a beautiful person . Class act his whole life .
Perfect example of nice human person
So friendly outside the ring inside the ring he was a killer. In his Prime as a welterweight hes the best I've ever seen. 👊
Sugar Ray doesn’t get enough credit for what he did in the ring. So smart, but more than anything he had the heart of a lion! It’s all about the heart. Yes there is great athletes with amazing skills, but you can’t teach heart! A true warrior! 😊🙏👍🏻👍🏻
I really enjoyed that, big fan of Sugar Ray Leonard, I also lost my dad in 1985...Thanks Jay!
Sugar Ray is 65. We remember when he was in his early 20s.
Such a nice way to start off my day.. I remember my dad's excitement over Ray Leonard fights it sure brings back priceless memories thanks.

It’s so great to see Jay Leno having that moment with Sugar Ray!
He looks great! Always loved watching him box - lucky to be able to watch him while I was growing up…
That 1971 Corniche cost the same as the house my parents bought - in 1971!
SR was always a humble type of guy from what I can see.
Wow Great Job Jay on this one Sugar Ray Awesome guy

This was fun to watch! Sugar Ray Leonard still looks good!
One word: Class. Love you SRL, I watched your fights with my dad too!
While visiting family in Georgia when I was a kid I saw Sugar Ray in an Atlanta Mall. He has always been a class act.

Sugar Ray Leonard is such a class act!! he looks great today. Big fan
Funny thing is; One of Jay's early Jokes; was His comparison, of a Rolls vs. the Pinto ... VERY Funny ... Jay, I remember the Straw Fedora ! 😉
True gentleman can't believe Sugar isn't on television more. Would be cool to see him commentating
I was working out in the gym in Oklahoma City once and Sugar Ray came in and worked out. I wasn't a boxing fan so I didn't even know it was him.
The Lamborghini question just cracked up Sugar Ray! He couldn't stop laughing!
always liked sugar ray,.....now I know I was right, he is a genuinely nice guy.
Wow this is gold two of the best
Lost my dad in 2020. That hole just doesn't go away.

Love this series!
Great show Jay. Great concept and subject all the while tying it into cars. Nice human interest angle. Bravo.
My dad had that exact car behind Jay. Black with white top Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk.
My all time favorite boxer in any weight class.
Ray is aging like a fine wine
Sugar Ray is 65 but looks more like 40. Legend.n
My dad’s (born 1931) favorite boxers were Rocky Marciano, then Sugar Ray Leonard, and lastly Manny Pacquiao.
I liked Julio Cesar Chavez sugar Shane and pack-man
My grandfather used to lose it when he watched Sugar Ray jump rope.
This man's in great shape - he looks like 35!
Yep, overall they're the best. Forget Tyson and Floyd Mayweather.
Before I saw Leonard, I didn't want him to take the name from Sugar Ray Robinson, but Leonardy really was good enough to use the "Sugar Ray" moniker
SRL = Legend
& my favorite boxer too🥊🥊🥊
Jay's car show is the best work he's done
A 1000 thumbs up for this one. Like a good wine that gets better with age. The best saying. I think I once had a Lamborghini. Best greetings from Germany
