  • Article-17:
    • At least one original copy of each document should be submitted.
    Any document externally bearing the original signature, mark, stamp, or label of the issuer shall be treated as original unless the document states that it is not original.
    Article-18: Commercial invoice shall be issued by the beneficiary in favor of the applicant. It does not have to be signed.

    The transport document shall be one original. If more than one original is issued it will be a full set as mentioned in the transport document.
    The transport document shall contain the terms of transport of the goods or the terms obtained from any other source (short form or blank back transport documents). The underlying terms of carriage shall not be examined.
    . It will not have instructions/indications that it is rented out. (If the charter party is mentioned it will not be deductible).
    Transshipment is when the goods are unloaded once from one type of transport and picked up again in the same or different type of transport en route from the origin to the destination.
    In case of transshipment, the transport document shall state that the goods shall be transported in all directions under one and the same transport document.
    • The transport document shall state that transshipment may be effected even if prohibited in the letter of credit.
    [Articles 20 to 25 for other transport documents are closely worded to Article 19. Only the identity of the transport document is highlighted separately. Sections 20 to 25 do not require separate interpretations as the other terms are almost identical.
    Article-26
    • Goods may be placed on deck - a condition mentioned in the transport document shall be acceptable.
    Conditions like "Shipper's load and count" and "Said by the shipper to contain" are acceptable in the transport document.
    Article-27 The document which does not contain any adverse comments about the goods or the packing of the goods is called Clean Transport Document. Bankers will only accept Clean Transport Documents.
