I feel this song couldn't have been visually justified any better than this. Hank, for all his shenanigans, cannot blame Karen for trying to step out of their sheer confused equation, but how he feels here, is a testament of just how much he weighs Karen high up in his life. So much so, that he's okay to be battered and broken if the love of his like aka his two beautiful girls are having a good time without him. There is art written all over this and all around this show, especially with the music game. I hope this show stays underrated for people like us to appreciate and enjoy it the way we do.
God damn I miss this show. It turned me on to some great music, Gregory Alan Isakov possibly being the best. Hank Moody was flawed, but human and identifiable.
Moments like this make this show an amazing one. Lot of people forget these moments and just remember hanks debauchery. Both are great parts of the show😂
He loved Karen, she was his soulmate, but he needed to grow up emotionally to understand that. I guess we, men, had such relationship once in our life and there will always be that one woman, real love we can never forget.
I see a lotta people complaining about Hank's behavior when he saw Karen with the other man, but we all shall not forget that Karen cheated first on him which leads to open the gates of the womenizer Moody is...
Hank never cheated on Karen... in fact he never cheats on Karen... He sleeps with women sure but he’s never cheated on Karen while they’ve been together.
I actually think it was the most mature move Hank could have made. He was clearly upset about it and he was right to leave before being noticed or causing a scene.
Miss this show, one of the most fun shows ever. Hank Moody is such an amazing character. Glad it came out before the woke era, don't think it could be made now
I'm a first time watcher in 2023 and a character like Hank Moody wouldn't be possible today. at least I don't think so. there'd be many discussions of "do we need a Hank Moody?", "is a character like Hank Moody necessary?" and the like. while some of the issues presented on the show would benefit from today's views (a deeper dive into hanks childhood trauma from his father, how hank affected Becca's life with his actions, the fact hank got sexually assaulted and raped and wasn't even mentioned nor discussed - at least not as far as I've watched), I think the overall show and essence of the characters wouldn't. its a double edge sword and the show and characters are a product of the time they were made in, which I think is a good representation of that time period and society. a character like hank moody has no place in today's television. the public is tired of anti heroes, politically and morally incorrect characters. the last one's I can think of to grace our screens where House from House MD, Dexter from Dexter, Walter White from Breaking Bad and the guy from mad men and some characters from game of thrones. and obviously hank moody. I don't think mad men and GOT count in the same category because they are not set in the present or reality. The public is understanding of their behavior given their situation. Then, Dexter and WW are downright criminals and don't even fit the same morally and politically incorrect model Hanks fits. They are bad people and although the audience may root for them and even understand their actions, they are not assholes. That being said, I think the only character I've seen that truly fits the same mold as Hank is House. He's and asshole, but as Hank, he has his reasons and both these shows revolve around them. His inner circle understands these reasons and tries to live despite them but can't always do so. Hank and House both lead normal lives to an extent. They aren't serial killers on the side or drug lords. In a time where television is filled with characters like Ted Lasso and Shaun Murphy, an asshole has no place available. House and Hank may have been the last characters of this sort we've seen. maybe for a while, even. I don't know when the next character like this will happen or how that character will look like, but it's gonna come back.
@@harshvardhan3063 My California by Beth Hart! Been perpetually stuck in my head for the last ten years, together with Rocket Man and Keep Me In Your Heart For A While. I guess I can live with that playlist.
i think that Hank knows none of those women really matter to him on an emotional level, whereas he knows that for Karen to allow a guy to come close to her like that, she has to be emotionally comfortable with him. i'm not approving Hank's behaviour, but i think the difference lies between the emotional investment involved.
You make a very good point! I'd have to agree with you! I think women (like myself) seeing having sex as such an intimate act--it's kind of difficult to keep feelings out of it. Whereas guys can just do it and not think twice. This show confuses me; there are times I feel sorry for Hank and then times I think Karen should dump him and I feel sorry for her!
I actually would argue that sex itself is not an intimate. Sometimes a simply touch or a look into a women's eyes can be much more intimate. Letting someone into you emotionally can mean much more than just letting a guy inside of you physically.
it's true. women are more likely to forgive an infidelity involving sex but not one involving emotional connection to the other person. for men is the opposite. talking about generalizations here
Not to sound cliche but I think it comes down whether or not one is screwing or making love. I know that sounds corny, but to me there is a difference. Screwing involves no emotion whatsoever, just a physical satisfaction. But making love to someone...whole different category.
very good soundtracks but season 5 has awesome soundtracks as well to name you few whitesnake - here i go again neil young - old man journey - faithfully 3 of my favorite songs!
season 4 was the best. hands down because we had Hank redeem himself after all the BS with MIA and left a great opeenig the viewer, you can say he found a peace with in him fels. season 5n6..I thought were too self aware and it was just making fun of itself. how can you take the show serious if the director can no longer take it serious
End of season 4 would have been a great (artistic) end for the series. There was a lot I enjoyed in the later seasons, but part of me always considers that in some universe, season 4 was the end.
@@Modulater83 4 would have been a perfect ending. That being said, I like that Hank gets a chance to redeem himself after hitting rock-bottom with Carrie. Plus, I like Faith's character and My California is such a hauntingly beautiful way to show that Hank is finally ready to confront his monsters for Karen.
See, I guess it all comes down to opinion. I think sex is pretty intimate, but you do have a point. Little looks and touches can be far more intimate than the actual sex act!
I'm sure, though, that there are plenty of women who feel more like a Hank, and plenty of men who feel like a Karen :). But I think that confusion comes with the gray areas of emotion, and Hank tends to make things complicated for himself... I think it's because these characters have been written to be quite human, and so your confusion is more than justified :)
It's funny (not haha funny) that Hank can sleep around with a bunch of other women and Karen gets majorly pissed and frustrated with Hank, yet when a guy even touches Karen, Hank goes into a complete heartbroken, depressed funk. Just an interesting difference between the two of them!
I don't think Hank gets sad just because he sees a man touching Karen; it goes a little further. What he sees when he enters the house is his daughter having fun with a friend and the love of his life feeling comfortable with another man. What he sees is simply his family being happy without him; he realizes that they're slowly moving on and letting him behind, and the worst part of it is: he acknowledges that. He understands all the pain and misery he brings to them and how happy they can be without him. That's why he leaves. Because he doesn't want to spoil their happiness. It is heartbreaking, because he knows that no one will ever love them like he does, but he also wants them to be the happiest they can be, even if it's not with him. At that moment, he starts giving up.
Music in this show was next level, so good and fitting
I have a very profound understanding of this moment.
