It's funny that - like in many other FF games - the Gestahl Empire start as first antagonist that wants to conquer the world, only to get upstaged by the true final enemy who wants to destroy everything instead (similar to Shinra and Sephiroth, Galbadia and Ultimecia or Church of Yevon and Seymour)
