The point about the challenge from Allah always leaves me scared and in awe at the same time, I don't know how the disbelievers continue to disbelieve after hearing it.
`Aa'ishah radiyAllaahu `anhaa said to the Prophet salla'Allaahu 'alayhi wa sallam: "O Allah's Messenger: all my friends have Kunya (except me). The Prophet salla'Allaahu 'alayhi wa sallam said: "Let your Kunya be with the name of your nephew; Abdullah Bin Al-Zubair. So, she is called since then with Umm Abdullah." (Abu Dawood)
Narrated Abu Hurairah: Abul-Qaasim (The Prophet) salla'Allaahu 'alayhi wa sallam said: "Name yourselves by my name, but do not call yourselves by my Kunyah." (Bukhari)

If you were not a Muslim, no you do not have to make them up. If you were a Muslim but not a good practicing Muslim, then you have to make them up.
