He damn near perfected his at bats with a killer eye, swing and approach. My guess is the roids was used for longevity not muscle mass. It was well known that Bonds was a workout addict, getting up at like 5 a.m every day to lift weights and practice. I tend to believe he became the best of his era because he worked harder than anyone.

Get out. Greatest swing ever. This is my argument. If PEDS truly was the reason, he should not be the only one doing what he did. He was always great! If you played ball you know. Lefty, that compact of a swing, that explosive. His hand eye coordination n timing is what separated himself from everyone else. Look at his numbers my word. If PEDS truly influenced a player to have better hand eye coordination, and decision making, most walks too. Nobody even close. He beefed up so what. Back then that’s what they did. All the execs, coaches, everyone knew. Barry Lamar Bonds greatest to ever do it without a doubt. Never seen anything like him. At that time I was living in Bezerkley and was always at the Coliseum. I’ll say it again, there was nobody better, before or after him. Greatest ever. Asterisk is fine but can’t keep him out. Insane.

Almost Every one except for griffey and jeter and a few others took steroids. Literally bonds went from like 40-50 homers a year with 90-100 RBI's and at least 20 steals a year to 50-70 homers with more rbi's and 40 steals a year. Steroids dont make you see the ball better, or improve your swing. Bonds had a vicious swing and a great eye for the right pitches. His extra strength just helped turn a few more long flies into homers.

And i dont hear a lot of people besides super die hard fans or Justin Verlander talk about how the MLB is most like tampering with the baseballs(juicing them) to make them carry off the bat more. Yet thats the same Amount of tampering as PEDs are yet i have way more of a problem with the MLB tampering then players trying to gain an advantage(as all athletes have since ancient Greece). Absolute BS. Ruth stole home 10 times in his career and broke the record for fielding percentage in a season in 1919, the same year he broke the home run record and one year after he set the record for consecutive shutout innings in the WS. Just about all the contemporary accounts I have read said that he was good at both of those facets. Unlike them, though, I guess you actually saw him play. How many games did Barry win as a pitcher? How many shutout innings did he pitch in the WS? If you say his stats were inflated by his supposed inferior completion then I can easily say Bonds’ stats were inflated due to steroids. Even then, he is a career .298 hitter lol.

Even though the numbers are tainted, to me it was the golden era of baseball for this 45 year olds lifetime. The unbelievable distance on home runs night after night which was obviously brought to you by PEDs, but beyond the power, their ability to maintain the stamina nightly may have been PEDs greatest effect the players experienced. So, with all this being said, I’m from Seattle so I’ll take Junior 7 days a week. I’ll also take me some Niehaus as a broadcaster.
