YOU ARE GETTING SO GOOD AT KNITTING!!!!!

I spent years on prescription painkillers (always prescribed by a legit doctor, but addiction is addiction). When I tell my story, I’m honoring my former self, not degrading her. I survived four years of medical mismanagement and was still brave enough to get out.

Sending strength to you! I too have dealt with a similar issue and while I can feel that twinge of shame thinking back, I also allow myself to feel the compassion for myself. Hope you keep doing well ❤

It’s not about begging for approval but taking pride in your accomplishments.

This perspective of theirs is so dumb. Is like someone posting how they got out of alcohol and are now sober and people start saying that they are "degrading their former self".
I think this tells how much FA people project themselves on others, and how they take the weight loss of others as a "degrading experience". It is you the one who is thinking that the before version is degraded. And it is not the word i would use, people are allowed to critizice themselves, reflect on themselves or their former selves...and it has nothing to do with anyone else. I hate how they project themselves into that, it is a very ED coded thing. They always believe everything goes around them and its about them. Someone else losing weight is not about you, and if you feel called out, the call is coming from inside the house.

"Degrading their former self" implies they never ever degraded themselves before... until now. Which is very unlikely.
The only gimme I give her here though is that as a fat person it can feel bad when someone is talking about hating their past body and it's like your goal weight lol (or otherwise smaller/equal to your size). But saying that would be being vulnerable about feelings instead of dressing things up academically/politically.

Love hearing your perspective! I think speaks volumes about them that they think it’s degrading for someone’s old fat body to be compared to someone’s new thin one. Shows a lot about what’s going on in their head lol

What's really degrading is living in a state of weakness and/or decadence rather than in your power. Looking back and acknowledging that fact is just accepting reality.

Very similar weightloss here. I remember being the only one in the room sweating at 270 lbs so. I'd rather wear a thicker sweater in winter

If the purpose was to degrade yourself, it would presented very differently. “Hey everyone look was a gross fat fck I was, everyone tell me how ugly I was!” And then the comments just focus on insulting the before pic
But that never happens because it’s obviously rude and not what the purpose is. Most before and after posts I’ve read don’t really focus on the before, only praising the after. Hell sometimes people will tell the poster they looked good in both pictures but they are happy for OP
Interesting how extremely negatively FAs see primarily positive spaces and people. Gym bros and bunnies, fitness forums with before and afters etc. Maybe I’ve lucked out into extra positive spaces but I’ve only ever seen support and encouragement in these spaces and from gym people. These mythical “arsehole fitness” people seem to mostly be a projection of insecurity. For every 1 mean, judgmental gym bro there’s 100 encouraging ones. And that mean gym bro is hypothetical because I’ve literally never met one irl

Boring gets it done and keeps it done. Dramatics, constant crying, freak outs lead to regain.

@@GraphicallyAlex Quite true as well. Just saying there's a LOT of actually interesting low-cal equivalents to their high-cal counterparts and allows you to actually have "fun" in the process. Whatever gets you there is what counts though!

Even if you brag, idc. I have something to brag about. They are the ones who always say oh I'm so pretty, so beautiful, why can't you do the same thing when you lose weight? I'm so gonna brag about it when I lose weight after I have my baby :D because I was in the middle of weight loss and got pregnant. Anyway, at least she didn't say it's fatphobic.

I believe she’s a theater person and a lot of her content has been about fat roles in theater and pop culture, so her username is referring to the character in Hairspray Tracy
