Darebin City Brass - Preston Band conducted by Broden Ford
This was the winning sacred item in Open A Grade at the 2019 Victorian State Band Championships, held at the Founders Theatre in Mt. Helen (Ballarat), Australia. Adjudicator: Bryan Hurdley. The band would win three of the four items and claim its sixth state championship in seven years. It would also be my first taste of A Grade contest success.
N.B. With the departure of Darebin City Brass' previous conductor, Andrew Snell, I had decided to apply for the bands vacant Musical Director position. I was successful, and left Glenferrie Brass to join DCB in June 2019. Interestingly, all three bands in this contest entered with new musical directors, with former Footscray-Yarraville City Band conductor, Phillipa Edwards, taking up the position I left at Glenferrie Brass, while FYCB promoted Louisa Trewartha from within their existing playing ranks.
