    Also, shoutout to Shannon Lee for keeping her father's legacy alive.

      thats why CIA and the American shadow government had him killed.
      Or the 80s sex /rock and roll and today's cheap music and fast sex culture would not have existed and dumbed our generations down significantly.
      Youth has tremendous energy and it seeks a path to channel it.
      And they did not want us to channel it the right way to benefit our mind and soul and spirituality.
      Bruce Lee was more than an action star, he was a philosopher and a storyteller who was only getting better as he went along.

    The fact that producers thought that a Chinese man would not be accepted playing a Chinese monk in a American TV series just shows how ridiculous and how gutless Hollywood is, they are spineless when it comes to pushing boundaries

    • @TheSubwaysurfer
      @TheSubwaysurfer 4 года назад +2

      easy to say Hollywood was gutless ( and i agree) but millions of dollars can make you very cautious.Especially if your job is on the line too. Undoubtedly most producers were probably impressed with Bruce but were roo too scared to take a chance

      You know nothing about Hollywood in the 70s. 70s time is about Cowboys, Steve McQueen and Apollo 11. Chinese men in American shows were used to be laughing stocks. Nobody thought a Chinese man would make Kung Fu popular in Hollywood when gyms aren't even a thing. Classic Hollywood was awesome, Bruce Lee wanted to be part of it too

    • @AztecUnshaven
      @AztecUnshaven 5 лет назад

      there's controversy to what really happened to this day still though... thing is... Shannon wasn't there, her mom was... and her mom is obviously gonna be biased towards Bruce...
      Coincidently, this was also the fight that inspired Bruce to expand and develop his own personal style of gongfu (Jun Fan Gongfu), and express his JKD philosophy.
      Other people that were supposedly there stated that the fight went on a bit longer than that, and both got their hits in, etc...
      So the truth is probably somewhere in between, no? Bruce was a complex man... he really was kind of arrogant and brash at times, (confirmed by multiple firsthand accounts of his close friends and martial arts brothers) but he was also clearly super charismatic, and very skilled.

    • @will_sketch
      @will_sketch 5 лет назад +4

      @@AztecUnshaven I don't doubt that there is a lot more to the story, but there is also a limited amount of talk time on the show. As for Linda's account of the fight, biased or not, the end result is clear, Bruce won that day. The "truth" could well be somewhere in between. Whether Wong ran, tripped, gave up, etc. is highly irrelevant now when you're talking about the legacy that followed the fight. If Bruce did not win, Shannon would not be there talking about the man that became a household name.

    It’s amazing to think about the impact Bruce made in this world for the short time that he was here. I’m 36 now and remember watching his movies as a kid living in the Bay Area not realizing that Bruce had been gone for almost 10 years (passed in 73); and being in awe of his charisma, athleticism, physique, and passion for martial arts/ JKD. He was the first true inspiration for myself to get in to martial arts/ combat sports as he was for millions of others. What still amazes me is how he’s even MORE relevant today than he was before, which just shows you how much of an impact he’s made in this world. I feel that he set a philosophical, physical, and intellectual standard for many to follow or to adopt in some way. His famous “be like water” quote can be used in so many facets of life; I believe his time on earth wasn’t just to show us martial arts/ physicality on screen, but to make us better individually by discovering ourselves and self improving. Great interview Sway!

    it shows even to this day and age the struggles asian americans have in the "hollywood" scene, new inspiring ideas, passion and hard work doesnt even pay off if it "doesn't fit and sell to the general media" it shows the struggle Bruce Lee had as one man and maybe a handful of people went through just to put his love of martial arts on screen. Fast forward to 2019, Shannon still goes through that struggle but rather than getting shut down from the start, they would take her on board and try to manipulate her to sell her fathers ideas to "western audience" im glad she doesn't sell herself out and i hope she keeps up the GREAT work and also people would open their minds and eyes that we are all hollywood stars regardless of race. Bruce Lee is THE MAN.

    Man, Shannon was exceedingly gracious when Birth of the Dragon was brought up and she called it "pure fiction," which is an understatement. On Facebook she went into a little more detail, calling it a step backwards for Asians in cinema, and I have to agree. It's one thing to do something like Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, where the director flat-out said, "This is entertainment-this is a Bruce Lee movie about Bruce Lee." Fair enough. But when you've got something like Birth that's supposed to be the "real story" and then spins everything-events, personalities, motivations, outcomes-into the exact OPPOSITE of what actually happened? WA-TAAAAH!!!

    Bless you Sway for your love and enthusiasm for Bruce Lee and JKD... it's "absorb what is useful" not "adapt" and it's not a Bruce Lee original saying (it's Mao Tse Tung) but it's still a universal application... sweet that you had the phenomenal Shannon Lee on your show!

    @28:48, Almost thirty minutes in and out of nowhere 🤣 Bruce's movie quotes are so freaking iconic nobody can help saying them. Don't believe me watch:
    "You have offended my family, and . . ." now go ahead and finish that quote, you know you want to 😏

    Props to Sway. This is very interesting to Bruce Lee fans such as myself. Bruce was definitely my favorite martial arts master back in the 80s and still to this day. He totally inspired hip hop and so much more.

    super cool interview with shannon! That show Warrior has a serious Banshee Vib to it! When i checked it out, i had no idea who created it nor that shannon was involved in it yet, i was saying to myself " man, this FEELS like a chinese version of banshee!" afterwards i find tropper was the creator and i noticed hoon from banshee in the cast and it was like Oh yeah! no wonder! banshee fans should definitely give this show a look..its got the same badass lead vib, a great cast, lots of beautiful naked women, over the top fight scenes, whats not to like?

    talking bout Bruce Lee and hip hop, I've always said that Bruce Lee and 2Pac (two of my all time fav. idols) had a lot of things in common. They both died way before their time, both super smart individuals, really good at what they did, both wanted to be in the entertainment industry etc. I could go on and on. But both they lives are very similar.
