The U87 feels like it has some more presence in the low end and it feels more clinical where the 187 feels like it's a bit colored with a little less presence in the low end. I think the 187 still sounds great though.
There's quite a big difference in how these two handle the sibilance. Using EQ you can tame the Bock a bit, but the U87 still sounds much more pleasant with the s-es. You can raise the high end a lot on the U87 and it will still sound smooth. The Bock on the other hand has a bigger body with more energy where the U87 sounds a bit tamed and held back. It's hard to pick a winner between the two really. For more modern productions I would go with the Bock, and for a bit more retro I would go with the U87.
The Bock is more open. I think a lot of modern producers would prefer that to the original, but the more mellow quality of the U87ai will prove more versatile on more sources, as it won’t get as bright on brighter sources. No one’s going to say that Bock sounds bad though.
The bock is certainly not new on the bock. It's been around for many many years, but was called U195 before UA bought and rebranded it. You have a lovely voice by the way!
Both sound great, but I feel the U87 is more defined but still sounds smooth even though that seems like a contradiction. Weirdly I think those particular reverb settings made the 187 sound better, it probably would've been a good idea to talk about the price difference seeing as the 187 is about half the price. So the question becomes is the U87 twice as good? Absolutely not, even though I do prefer the sound.
Significant amount of ambient noise in the guitar track for both; would have preferred a quieter room. Would have also liked to invert the phase on one and then mix them to see how similar they are.
The Bock 187 isn't meant to be a replica, it's designed to have a sound in the same ballpark as the U87. So a phase inversion would be pointless really. Just listen and decide what you prefer.
Good job pointing the Bock in a completely different direction, and singing almost directly into the Neumann but entirely past the capsule of the Bock. Of course everybody is going to prefer the Neumann if the Bock is so far off, pointing at a different part of the guitar and singing past it. I mean, I have the Neumann and I don't really have an interest in the Bock, but come on... if you do a shoot-out, at least be precise and fair.
OK with all due respect here’s the real deal when you go to test microphones out no offense you need to have real singers that besides singing soft can really belt and I’ll tell you why you will find the true test of a microphone when somebody’s belting specially, full voice And a higher register because that’s where those harsh frequencies for split second pop out and reveal just how good or cheap your microphone sounds regardless of the price. Remember, I shared this with you. I hope you can do a test with Singer who sings his ass off and then you’ll know what’s up in my humble opinion

the 187 for both together. It's the feeling it gives you. The U87 feels to familiar. The 187 gives me something new.. but old at the same time.
I got to hear what I needed to hear, thank you.

Well, singing was ditected to Neumann so there is more body, more lows thet is why are sybilants more audible on UA.

The 187 is half the price of the Neuman and if anything I prefer it. Certainly in a mix you would never guess which is the more expensive.

Because he sung directly to Neumann, and Bock was on his chin
Bock. TY for the comparison.
Bock seems to have a little more clarity
there is a very loud background noise..

Jack did comment on that during the video.

Major difference IMO- U87 doesn't have the bright top end the Bock does, they do sound good however not at all a comparison IMO.

I just said something like that. Not correct comparison
Hey you are a good singer. I want to hear the rest of that song
😆
🤣
u87 has more body.
U87 all day long. The UA is kind of so-so.
