Perfect video. I watched it and then completed an oil change on my is200 exactly the same way. Took me a bit of time trying to get the oil filter out though and I ended up buying the same tool you used. Nice tip on how to check coolant level, mine was very low and I topped it up.
Who ever the hell had our car before, tightened the crap out of the oil filter till the point our filter wrench broke. The man even impacted the struts
Thank you for the instruction! I was a little worried about how to get the filter out, but now I think I will get it out without spilling too much oil.
11:29 A hack for better access to the filter if you don't have a full height car lift nor the exact tools in the video is by temporarily undoing that engine mount and moving it aside. It's just there to brace that area of the engine, not an actual mounting point, so don't worry about the engine falling down when you undo it. Just unclip the cable on it, undo the two bolts on the brace and you end up having plenty more space to get to the filter. I always screw my filters in hand tight, so I just use my hand again to undo them next time round. This method has worked best for me with the car just jacked up to sit on axel stands. Of course remember to bolt that brace back afterwards.
@DaringBeefcake glad to help because I know how frustrating it can be to try access that filter when you're on your back under the car. The amount of swearing I used do before figuring out that hack, lets just leave it at that 😅.
With ref to getting the oil filter loose prior to removal I’ve know mechanics who just piece the old filter with a screwdriver to be able to release it a little before removing by it hand, it’s leaks a bit of oil but in the absence of the correct tool it gets the job done
mine's done 270'000 km, or a round 170k miles. i've had to replace the lower control arm ball joints cause the plastic boot ripped, apart from that the thing looks like new. and it's a car that's been driven every day in switzerland, where the roads are salted to al hell in winter. timing belt is up next at 300k km. incredible cars. i fully expect that i won't be allowed to drive it before anything serious breaks on it. some expamples seem to have some rust under the rear door sills, mine doesn't at all for some reason. how has yours been?
crankshaft sensor is at the very back of the engine closer towards the passenger side (if you have a RHD IS200). Its in an awkward position so i recommend taking all the engine plastic covers off first to get better view/access to it. It is held down by a single 10mm bolt similar to the VVTi solenoid and has just one connection going to it which is easy to disconnect and just pulls out

Oh my the wrench broke, I don’t know why some time they over tighten, it’s only around 25 nm or so. I hope you manage to get it out in the end.
@@DaringBeefcake yeah managed somehow, I got my father to help out and he just used a pipe wrench since it was that bad
Am glad to hear that..well done.@@JelloJamss

Hey there, the IS200 with a manual transmission takes 4.2 Liters of engine oil (if the oil filter is changed)
Thanks for the tip for the ones doing work on a manual IS200.

great tip! thanks a lot.
20year old car and no rust under the chassis and engine mount - impressed
Michal Surmacz yes its really impressive though it only has around 65000 miles. Am gona sell it soon.
@@DaringBeefcake I am about to buy one with 44k miles(confirmed milage Hpi checked) from 1999 in few hours. Planning to baby one for some time 🙃
Nice one, enjoy it.

i tried this and got oil all over the driveway, hair, and clothes. worth it :) only took 6hrs. but thanks for the help
😂 well done, where there is a will there’s 6 hours 😌
Thank you for being so thorough 🙏
You are so welcome!
Cool detailed video 👊 where do I find the crankshaft sensor on this motor ?
Thank you, well am not sure where it is to be hones and I don’t have that car anymore sorry.

i literally couldn't find the oil filter. felt like an idiot, but now i think the idiot is whoever put it in the most inaccessible spot possible.
I know what you mean, it is very awkward place to be..
Great video!
Jabu Mulenga thanks.

Changing oil for lexus is fucking pain in the ass.
Hi. At 14.01min you mention about the minor leak from what gasket? Mine is leaking axactly same way... Maybe couse it was overfilled with oil..?
Michal Surmacz the rocker cover gasket, that can leak as the rubber gets hard. Don’t think its due to overfilling.
@@DaringBeefcake thank you. Totally understandable... In my IS its 20year old rubber 😉
Michal Surmacz hehehe exactly this one in the vid is 19 years old very understandable. This days they don’t even last a couple of years.
My rocker cover gasket is leaking a bit must be a common fault
@@DaringBeefcake mines leaks to its a toyota 2005 and i was told its the rubber so i change it and it stop
hey i'm about to do a oil change and oil filter change on my is200 what oil filter do you recommend?
Blue print is a good make and usually they are the suppliers for Toyota Lexus parts..
Hi guys, which side should I turn to remove the filter?
anticlockwise to open clockwise to close, i found some of this are very hard to open if they haven't been regularly open or tightened to much..
hi,could you tell me which kind of the liquid you used to clean the oil leak? thank
you
