  • In this video, I take a couple of great-sounding Eastman jazz guitars and put them head to head playing the same songs. The first is an Eastman 580 CE that I just got. The second is an 880 CE John Pisano Signature Model which is more expensive. The two guitars have a lot of the same specs but the Pisano has a lot of upgrades. Which one do you like better? Leave me a comment and thanks for watching!

      Thanks for listening! The Pisano is darker which translates to my son Wes as less life. But.. he is just listening. He is not playing. As I said in the video. You can feel the Pisano more when you play it. That's a hard one to factor in as a listener!

    I'm a little partial to the 580 because that's what I play so I think I wanted it to sound better. But the highs cut through much better on the 580 to me. I'd like to try an 880 or the 805. Pretty happy with my 580 though. All stock. A little fret leveling was all it ever needed. Thanks for your awesome reviews. Also the inspiration on chord soloing.

    Both sound great, but I'm partial to the 580. I actually bought one after I saw this video. It's fantastic! I purchased it used. It was made in 2017 with a nitro finish. I changed the Armstrong pickup out and replaced it with a custom CC pickup. It's a humbucker size. It was custom made for me by a guy named Pete Biltoft. What a great pickup! You should look him up on line. His work is first class. The pickup mellows out the brightness of the 580 a little bit. It's a great combo. Keep the videos coming Rich. They are all fantastic!

    The differences are small but I think distinct. The 580 sounds like an - electric - guitar, the 880 sounds like an amplified - guitar -.
    which I much prefer. I have the 680 and I think the mahogany adds a sweetness but like other commenters that probably biases my ears.

    the Pizano Eastman guitars now have a maple top I’m not sure which one that is has It’s an older model. They changed the design slightly and I played that older model I didn’t like it it was too thin sounding and you know I don’t know the 580 sounds sort of OK but it’s a, I really couldn’t hear it and that the way he played it on the single lines sound OK you know an ES 175 sounds much better than both of those for jazz. You can get a super dark tone or you can get a georgbenson tone the in es 175.

    • @grantgre
      @grantgre Год назад

      on the other hand if you like that more natural sounding guitar sound that Eastman brings to the table then you know it’s probably for you you know I think the Eastmans if you could get them to play and you could record them with a mic and also a.m. pick up I think the sound would be exquisite as opposed to playing like let’s say ES 175 where you really wouldn’t get that semi acoustic sound with that guitar, even if it was acoustic

    great as usual !! a silly question: are you sitting in a standard seat. I ask this question because I am having trouble finding a good position to play the guitar. Thanks for the question, Mat! There are no silly questions in my mind... if you need information just ask... I am glad you did! I use a drum throne. The one I use right now is made by DW. It has a contoured seat and a back rest. They are pretty expensive but they are worth it if you are playing for several hours each week. Most drum companies makes a higher end throne with a back rest... just go to a guitar center or a music store and try them out and see which one you like best. I recommend a back rest because with a big guitar you may have to lean back a tad when you play the higher frets. I hope this helps! I hope you have more questions for the live stream tomorrow at 11am PST. Cheers to you in France! Thanks for watching!

      I am a senior, playing over 60 years. The right stool is important for me. I found the best at Walmart. They are super lightweight (metal), sturdy, fold for gigs/teaching, nice backrest that doesn't come close to your guitar, ample padded seat and a crossbar/footrest about 6 inches off the floor. Has everything for me. There are 2 different heights. Make sure you get the 24" and not the 30". I bought 2 several years ago for den and bedroom. Price was $25 at that time.

    I've just been reading anti-chinese comments about guitars.
    Cheap/cheaper guitars are far, far better than the cheap guitars of old.
    Some of the best guitar players in the world play Eastman guitars, if only for gigging.
    Just bought a chinese made Guild jumbo, it's a great sounding guitar for 550 euro new.

      The great Irish jazz player Louis Stewart, played a Korean ,Cort guitar, for years.
      He said that it wasn't hit and miss at different venues, and sounded good wherever he played. I have a Mexican Telecaster, about 20 years old, that I wouldn't swop for anything.
      The idea that a good guitar has to be american made, in the golden era, is not just ridiculous, but also, very, very wrong.

    Hi Rich (or anyone else that cares to answer) I have an old T145, and the wooden bridge isn't suiting the strings I use tuning wise and I was thinking to replace it with a tune-o-matic, but as you're aware the string spacing is unusual - any idea where I could find one to fit? No help from Eastman - they don't stock such things.

    I have to say I'm always disappointed with guitar comparison videos. I've been trying to make sense of what the difference truly is between a $1000 & a $8000 guitar; pretty much none of the comparison videos will shed light on this. I believe the difference between these two guitars is in the wood not the sound. Through pickups they sound the same to me, acoustically you may hear a difference. You pay a few thousand more for the Pisano because you get a solid piece of hand carved wood rather than glued sheets of paper; this is a valid difference. Most guys will say the laminated guitar is great for the $$$ but what I'd like to know is how thin are the sheets on the laminated version, when you start getting more glue than wood the $1000 price is no longer worth it.

    • @bbowjazz
      @bbowjazz 10 месяцев назад +3

      Buy a solid wood acoustic archtop with great aged woods, built by a single or small-shop craftsman (the $8K guitar). Give it a decade of playing love if it’s new. String it up with bronze or nickel/bronze strings and listen to how rich acoustically your fine instrument is! If you have really good playing technique, the difference between an instrument like this and a $1000 import should be noticeable, especially the dynamics - just not 8X noticeable😊. Most of the $8K is so an American or European, etc. craftsman can eek out a working class living and provide you with an instrument made from the very best aged woods.

    There is always a reason when something is too good to be true! Eastman guitars are made in Chinese factories under dreadful conditions for many very young workers, if you ever saw how they are treated you would never include an Eastman in your review again. Do your own research before buying an instrument because someone paid a price so you can get a bargain and if that doesn't make you feel awful playing it you need to question your humanity.
