It really works! I’m nearly 70 years old and have always had poor rote memory skills. Now, I’m studying post-graduate level Medieval Philosophy. I needed to memorize terminology in four ancient languages: Arab, Hebrew, Greek and Latin. Plus, modern terminology in French, German, and English. On top of that, all my textbooks are in Spanish. this might not be the most appropriate question but what's the difference between this app and anki?
Great question, Victoria. While there are many similarities between the two Brainscape is a great Anki alternative for learners looking for simplicity via a good, easy-to-use UX. Brainscape also offers great pre-made content or the option to create your own study materials from scratch. With Brainscape you also get the reliability of a responsive company as opposed to using open-source software.
All in all, we love the spirit of Anki but Brainscape's a great choice if you're looking for something just a bit different that still offers great Spaced Repetition Software (SRS) so that you can focus on your weaknesses. Allowing you to learn more while studying less.

It’s all in English although we do have a TON of Russian users since the actual user experience is pretty intuitive. We hope to localize to other languages in the future though!
Behaviourist repetition is very old, very out of date. It makes it hard to learn. Yes, some repetition and break down is useful, but then we need creative, human ways to create communication. Our brains don't work well with lists.

Creative people would start using the phrases to invent, which is very useful in deepening associations, but not due to the repetitive process at all. Repeating can be useful, but only as one of many strategies.
Then this app is useful to the creative mind.
It's useful as an addition to other methods and techniques, not by itself, creative or not.
