Also, try a chocolate bar called Serrano. That is my favorite after ION with almonds. And if you like chocolate with fruity taste, try Pavlidis Strawberry and Pavlidis Cherry. The one with strawberries is strawberry paste covered in mouthwatering chocolate and the cherry one has cherry liqueur covered in mouthwatering chocolate. Green cola is called Green due to stevia replacing sugar...it also contains natural caffeine and is the closest, as far as taste is concerned, to a Coca Cola. It is the only cola type I drink currently

Yes exactly that. 7days hazelnut or millefeuille was a very big thing in the nineties. And generally speaking until 15 years ago, give or take, we only had a "basic" selection of croissants, hazelnut or marmalade filing. Regardless of the brand.
There are so many Greek sweets and snacks, where to begin. you did the submarine the correct way, but the classic one is the vanilla flavor. Masticha is a unique flavor, made from tree saps , that only grows in half of the island of chios. Nowhere else in the world. Japan has tried to imitate the same environment , but the trees never grew the special sap. It is used for gum and sweets, health products , and in easter you will try a Greek sweet pastry called tsoureki that has mastiha. anyways, keep on trying more stuff, and show some bakery treats as well!

Yes, there is an Ion chocolate with whole almonds , it's in a white and brown packaging. Definitely try the Jumbo country chips by Ohonos Snacks. Nothing but tasty salted chips cooked in sunflower oil and that's it. Regarding croissants etc, anything by Stergiou would not dissapoint 😀

Actually, the whole ritual with BREAK is that you have to open it by snapping it in the middle. The package opens at the middle and you "break" (guess how it got its name) the chocolate in two to share!
Lol guys i was responsible for the submarine suggestion 😂. The original taste is vanilla. You chose masticha ,which is a tree grown only in the island of Chios and many products come from it, either edible or not. So i guess you don't like masticha flavour,but if you want to try the "submarine" again try vanilla. You did the process right, you get a big spoon ,let it sit in the water and slowly eat it from the spoon

@Sunpire no, you don't have to drink the water,it still takes the same anyway. I drank it anyway because after the sweet taste of vanilla i wanted water. I am not sure how dipping vanilla in water helps the flavour, i am sure there is an explanation.

This is very traditional, way before there was chocolate available for the masses in Greece. It is more of a summer delicacy, the water the colder the better. The paste is made from masticha, the resin from masticha tree in the pine family and which is the base for gum. Vanilla is the default, but more sweet. You dip it into the ice cold water to remain firm in the heat, lick it or eat it in small bites like a lollipop and drink the water to counter the sweetness in the heat. A favourite of mine ( my wife likes the bitter almond flavour as well), I don't believe you would have like it because it is too sweet and sticks in your teeth. Team almonds huzzah!!!!
Masticha comes from masticha trees you can only find in the Greek island of Hios Its chewy we can eat it as chewing gum . Thats the special flavor in vanilla under water
The 'submarine' you bought is a bit special. You should have bought the one that said vanilla without the mastiha flavor. Mastiha is something than is only used in Greece, you get it from a special tree that grows around the Mediterranean in all the countries, from Greece to Morocco, I think, but they don't have it in their cuisine. Maybe it's a different variation of the tree but in Greece it only grows in one island, Chios, and only on the northern part of it. The most common use is to make chewing gum with it and because it was one of the first chewing gums in our country, the translation of chewing gum in Greek is 'mastiha'. Then we make oil from it, very very expensive oil from it, which you literally use by drops. You put one drop of its oil in 1.5 L of water and you can eat anything with garlic. If you drink the mastiha water after it your stomach is settled and your breath doesn't smell bad at all. Some experienced moms that like the taste, make cookies with the solid form of it after they make it dust in a mortar. And finally, we have a very good liqueur made from mastiha. If you like sweet alcohol and the taste of mastiha, it is heaven on earth. If not, I don't recommend it. But, yeah, these are the main uses of mastiha. And yes there is ION with whole almonds in it. It's cover is white with a bit of brown on the one side of the chocolate package. Great video as always!

Next time you should really try some other croissants and some very popular biscuits or cookies. I would really recommend two croissants, both from the same company, called "7days", one called "hazelnut" and the other with apple and cinnamon called "strudel" (green packaging). As for the biscuits, I would recommend the one from PAPADOPOULOS with 4 cereals and muesli (purple packaging). Lastly, the cookies from "ΒΙΟΛΑΝΤΑ", a very famous company, are THE BEST, but I would say you should really buy the ones filled with hazelnut praline! :)

try junbo blyk pepper ant salt foudounia ( φουντούνια ) fofio( φοφίκο) and sweets lacta crem , cookies (lacta/medenda) little chocolate noisetta ant chocolata amaretto( ion ) and try again Caprice frozen
I like the Pavlidis first, then the almond ION chocolate. The best croisant is the Champion brand. My favorite sweet of all you had is the Masticha submarine
@@Sunpire I think it's 40 or 50% dark chocolate, but they have a bitter 70% black version as well. The blue Pavlidis with Orange is my favorite. A more weird snack would be Foudounia (by Tasty or Jumbo) or Fofico (by Hohonos). I love them both. Also a must is Sour cream and Black Pepper whole wheat Chips (by Lay's). Also anything by Rice Up or Healthy Habits brands. And Cream Crackers (by Papadopoulou) From more weird sweets I'd try Greek Halva (ask about it) Moustokouloura (ask about it) Serano chocolate from ION, Caprice by Papadopoulou, Derby sweet snack with rice, dark chocolate and coconut, Bounty with coconut Also Pti Ber with dark chocolate by Papadopoulou (the whole wheat version). Finally Miranda by Papadopoulou which is the best biscuit for cofee or milk. And since Christmass is coming at some point, go to a sweet shop and ask for Kourambie and melomakarona. I'm sure you'll be suprised by both.
Don't worry, everything went great with the preparation for the "submarine"!😆 There are just many different flavors you can try, such as vanilia. Also, some people do drink the water as after some time it has a bit of a sweet taste!
@@Sunpire Unfortunately, there isn't :/ But, if you want to try something sweet with eggplant in it you can search for "γλυκό του κουταλιού μελιτζανάκι", meaning dessert of the spoon made from eggplant. This kind of sweets are usually made from different fruits and syrup, which makes it very sweet, combined in a jar.
Do not try industrial glyka tu koutaliu, (spoon sweets), or you will be permanently put off and you will unfortunately miss one of the greatest traditional delicacies of Greece. But do try them when they are home made. These are fruit or baby-vegetable preserves in syrup, served with afternoon coffee when friends and relatives come over to say hello. You may also be treated with them when visiting a monastery. My favorites are: sour cherry (similar to the Italian amarena), walnut, aubergine, bitter orange (nerandji), or fig. In the island of Kos, you will find their traditional tomato sweet. In the Apeiranthos village of Naxos, you will find a restaurant with excellent dishes and an incredible collection of home made spoon sweets, alone justifying a trip to the island.
A cultural insight you missed is the guy suggesting you tried Milko with a cheesepie for breakfast. It's a kindof-timeless Greek joke that if you combine the two, you get diarrhea. So many take it up a notch adding "and then smoke a cigarette", which implies you won't even make it to the bathroom. That being said, it has never happened to me haha

@@Sunpire I really cannot choose one. Each one is for a different time of the day and for different beverage (or different food that you already have had). For example, if you have drunk too much, sokofreta (or any chocolate with waffles) is a no, as well as dark chocolate. You need milk chocolate, preferably without nuts, not to get choked! 😅
Hi For me the best Greek chocolate since i was kid was the ION. 200 gr with whole almond's....I am already 58 yo and never find better chocolate.... But i must admit that i have a Lidl near me and the dark 200 gr chocolates with whole almonds or hazel are very good too... And one milk chocolate,300 gr with whole hazels are nice too...

Try Papadopoulou petit beure with chocolate on top and put them in the fridge to cool a bit. Then caprice are great, in the fridge also and pavlidis the normal chocolate is great. I don't like lacta you can taste the sugar in it... As for drinks gerani are great but from the glass bottle. I think some years ago it was more fuzzy though.
you ate correctly the submarine . But this is more like kid sweet. it has Mastic which has a strong taste and either you like it a lot or not at all. Use mainly in liqueurs, candies and Greek cocktails. Mastic is like tears that comes out of the trees, which trees you find only on the island with name Chios. Nowhere else in the world
@@Sunpire melomakarona (μελομακάρονα) & kourambiedes (κουραμπιέδες) basically. In Crete I think they have some unique Christmas desserts too. Maybe diples (διπλες) are one of them but I'm not sure.
@@SunpireFor Christmas and New Year's Eve we have some various sweets : Melomakarona,Kourabiedes, Isli,Diples,Tiganites/Kserotigana, Spargana tou Hristou, vasilopita,Baklava,Saragli,Foinikia,kormos, mosaiko, etc...Many of these sweets are regional and it's hard to find them outside of their region.

The Green cola, it's called "green" because it has stevia as a sweetener. The dark chocolate you had is called Pavlidis and is the oldest brand in Greece. With the "submarine" you didn't mess up. You just got the one with the weirdest taste. Masticha is a resin that is used as a natural chewing gum as well as an aromatic essence in greek desserts. Next time get the plain vanilla one. @@Sunpire A very traditional type of dessert is what we call "spoon sweet" (γλυκό κουταλιού - glyko koutaliou). It's a sweet made with fruits boiled with sugar. Most common is the cherry. Push your luck and try rose, pistachio or even eggplant(!). Try masticha liquor (it's better cold). Also try chewing gum masticha both the raw and processed one.
pavlidis chocolate it's bitter because it's only from cacao no milk choco , it is specialized for fasting times and it's come in original , with orange , or with almounds .

About submarine desert ...you have done nothing wrong. In the old days that Greek families have not many choices for deserts they use this as a desert especially for kids. Usually the flavor was vanilla.....not mastixa. This is probably the wired staff you have taste. Because mastixa is the rising coming from a tree that exists only in the Chios island. If you haven’t taste it before it is a little bit wired. Perhaps the next time you will choose the vanilla one. But not expect something exotic. Is just a simple sweat desert.

@@Sunpire probably 30 years ago submarine sweet was something to give the kids that tastes sweet and takes time to consume to an adult place! you did not do anything wrong! usually the flavor was vannilla or masticha ! and it can last for ages without expiring date! my mother probably has still this in her kitchen
@@Sunpirewell that was the most popular sweet that people served when they had visitors for over 40 years ago when refrigerators where not very common so they needed something that could be kept in their kitchen cupboards. It's not very common nowadays but personally I love it.
You put it in cold water because it makes it softer and because this is a small sweet snack for the summertime. It was one of the only sweets you could find in small "kafeneia" in the past (gathering places of villages). In those years chocolate and such sweets were too high class and import only, but the "submarine" was working class sweet.

Yes exactly that. 7days hazelnut or millefeuille was a very big thing in the nineties. And generally speaking until 15 years ago, give or take, we only had a "basic" selection of croissants, hazelnut or marmalade filing. Regardless of the brand.

There are so many Greek sweets and snacks, where to begin. you did the submarine the correct way, but the classic one is the vanilla flavor. Masticha is a unique flavor, made from tree saps , that only grows in half of the island of chios. Nowhere else in the world. Japan has tried to imitate the same environment , but the trees never grew the special sap. It is used for gum and sweets, health products , and in easter you will try a Greek sweet pastry called tsoureki that has mastiha. anyways, keep on trying more stuff, and show some bakery treats as well!

Actually, the whole ritual with BREAK is that you have to open it by snapping it in the middle. The package opens at the middle and you "break" (guess how it got its name) the chocolate in two to share!

Lol guys i was responsible for the submarine suggestion 😂. The original taste is vanilla. You chose masticha ,which is a tree grown only in the island of Chios and many products come from it, either edible or not. So i guess you don't like masticha flavour,but if you want to try the "submarine" again try vanilla.
You did the process right, you get a big spoon ,let it sit in the water and slowly eat it from the spoon

@@Sunpire The water needs to be cold. You sink it for a bit and then you treat it like a lollipop. There is also vanilla with strawberry or rose versions, but they're rare to find
This is very traditional, way before there was chocolate available for the masses in Greece. It is more of a summer delicacy, the water the colder the better. The paste is made from masticha, the resin from masticha tree in the pine family and which is the base for gum. Vanilla is the default, but more sweet. You dip it into the ice cold water to remain firm in the heat, lick it or eat it in small bites like a lollipop and drink the water to counter the sweetness in the heat.
A favourite of mine ( my wife likes the bitter almond flavour as well), I don't believe you would have like it because it is too sweet and sticks in your teeth.

The 'submarine' you bought is a bit special. You should have bought the one that said vanilla without the mastiha flavor. Mastiha is something than is only used in Greece, you get it from a special tree that grows around the Mediterranean in all the countries, from Greece to Morocco, I think, but they don't have it in their cuisine. Maybe it's a different variation of the tree but in Greece it only grows in one island, Chios, and only on the northern part of it.
The most common use is to make chewing gum with it and because it was one of the first chewing gums in our country, the translation of chewing gum in Greek is 'mastiha'. Then we make oil from it, very very expensive oil from it, which you literally use by drops. You put one drop of its oil in 1.5 L of water and you can eat anything with garlic. If you drink the mastiha water after it your stomach is settled and your breath doesn't smell bad at all.
Some experienced moms that like the taste, make cookies with the solid form of it after they make it dust in a mortar.
And finally, we have a very good liqueur made from mastiha. If you like sweet alcohol and the taste of mastiha, it is heaven on earth. If not, I don't recommend it. But, yeah, these are the main uses of mastiha.
And yes there is ION with whole almonds in it. It's cover is white with a bit of brown on the one side of the chocolate package.

Next time you should really try some other croissants and some very popular biscuits or cookies. I would really recommend two croissants, both from the same company, called "7days", one called "hazelnut" and the other with apple and cinnamon called "strudel" (green packaging). As for the biscuits, I would recommend the one from PAPADOPOULOS with 4 cereals and muesli (purple packaging). Lastly, the cookies from "ΒΙΟΛΑΝΤΑ", a very famous company, are THE BEST, but I would say you should really buy the ones filled with hazelnut praline! :)

@@Sunpire I think it's 40 or 50% dark chocolate, but they have a bitter 70% black version as well. The blue Pavlidis with Orange is my favorite.
A more weird snack would be Foudounia (by Tasty or Jumbo) or Fofico (by Hohonos). I love them both.
Also a must is Sour cream and Black Pepper whole wheat Chips (by Lay's).
Also anything by Rice Up or Healthy Habits brands.
And Cream Crackers (by Papadopoulou)
From more weird sweets I'd try
Greek Halva (ask about it)
Moustokouloura (ask about it)
Serano chocolate from ION,
Caprice by Papadopoulou,

@@Sunpire Unfortunately, there isn't :/ But, if you want to try something sweet with eggplant in it you can search for "γλυκό του κουταλιού μελιτζανάκι", meaning dessert of the spoon made from eggplant. This kind of sweets are usually made from different fruits and syrup, which makes it very sweet, combined in a jar.

Do not try industrial glyka tu koutaliu, (spoon sweets), or you will be permanently put off and you will unfortunately miss one of the greatest traditional delicacies of Greece. But do try them when they are home made. These are fruit or baby-vegetable preserves in syrup, served with afternoon coffee when friends and relatives come over to say hello. You may also be treated with them when visiting a monastery. My favorites are: sour cherry (similar to the Italian amarena), walnut, aubergine, bitter orange (nerandji), or fig. In the island of Kos, you will find their traditional tomato sweet. In the Apeiranthos village of Naxos, you will find a restaurant with excellent dishes and an incredible collection of home made spoon sweets, alone justifying a trip to the island.

A cultural insight you missed is the guy suggesting you tried Milko with a cheesepie for breakfast. It's a kindof-timeless Greek joke that if you combine the two, you get diarrhea. So many take it up a notch adding "and then smoke a cigarette", which implies you won't even make it to the bathroom. That being said, it has never happened to me haha

For example, if you have drunk too much, sokofreta (or any chocolate with waffles) is a no, as well as dark chocolate. You need milk chocolate, preferably without nuts, not to get choked! 😅

Try Papadopoulou petit beure with chocolate on top and put them in the fridge to cool a bit. Then caprice are great, in the fridge also and pavlidis the normal chocolate is great. I don't like lacta you can taste the sugar in it... As for drinks gerani are great but from the glass bottle. I think some years ago it was more fuzzy though.

Use mainly in liqueurs, candies and Greek cocktails. Mastic is like tears that comes out of the trees, which trees you find only on the island with name Chios. Nowhere else in the world

Classic Pavlidis chocolate (the blue one with the premium package 😅) is dark chocolate. The one with the black package is just darker

The Green cola, it's called "green" because it has stevia as a sweetener. The dark chocolate you had is called Pavlidis and is the oldest brand in Greece. With the "submarine" you didn't mess up. You just got the one with the weirdest taste. Masticha is a resin that is used as a natural chewing gum as well as an aromatic essence in greek desserts. Next time get the plain vanilla one. It's a type of dessert that all Greeks over 40 had every summer. Have fun guys!

@@Sunpire A very traditional type of dessert is what we call "spoon sweet" (γλυκό κουταλιού - glyko koutaliou). It's a sweet made with fruits boiled with sugar. Most common is the cherry. Push your luck and try rose, pistachio or even eggplant(!). Try masticha liquor (it's better cold). Also try chewing gum masticha both the raw and processed one.

About submarine desert ...you have done nothing wrong. In the old days that Greek families have not many choices for deserts they use this as a desert especially for kids. Usually the flavor was vanilla.....not mastixa. This is probably the wired staff you have taste. Because mastixa is the rising coming from a tree that exists only in the Chios island. If you haven’t taste it before it is a little bit wired. Perhaps the next time you will choose the vanilla one. But not expect something exotic. Is just a simple sweat desert.

@@Sunpire probably 30 years ago submarine sweet was something to give the kids that tastes sweet and takes time to consume to an adult place! you did not do anything wrong! usually the flavor was vannilla or masticha ! and it can last for ages without expiring date!

@@Sunpirewell that was the most popular sweet that people served when they had visitors for over 40 years ago when refrigerators where not very common so they needed something that could be kept in their kitchen cupboards. It's not very common nowadays but personally I love it.
Probably if it's something you grow up with, it is very enjoyable. We'll have to try the vanilla next time😊

You put it in cold water because it makes it softer and because this is a small sweet snack for the summertime. It was one of the only sweets you could find in small "kafeneia" in the past (gathering places of villages). In those years chocolate and such sweets were too high class and import only, but the "submarine" was working class sweet.

First you have to read the ingredients from this products some of them are much healthier than others for example green cola its much healthier than the other cola products and then you have to say your opinions....
Yes, you are right. Green cola definitely deserves a higher rating from us just because it has the same taste as the original and the ingredients that are inside it are more towards the healthy side 🤍💙🤍💙. I would give it a 9 now that I know all this info, even though We are not cola drinkers
